Jan 21, 9:59 PM (ET) ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - A person close to Caroline Kennedy’s decision said she’s withdrawing from her effort to join the U.S. Senate in the seat once held by her slain uncle, Sen. Bobby Kennedy. The person close to the decision made Wednesday evening spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity because he wasn’t authorized to speak for Kennedy.

Spokesmen for New York Gov. David Paterson and Kennedy have refused to comment.

The news is a shock to supporters and to Paterson, who had appeared likely to appoint her to the seat by Saturday.

Citing personal reasons, Kennedy ended her monthlong bid to succeed Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, who was confirmed as secretary of state on Wednesday.

Jan 21, 11:18 PM (ET) ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - After wavering briefly, Caroline Kennedy renewed her determination Wednesday to win appointment to the U.S. Senate seat once held by her slain uncle, Bobby Kennedy, a person close to the decision said.

After her surviving uncle, Sen. Edward Kennedy, suffered a seizure on Inauguration Day, Caroline Kennedy had misgivings about taking on the new job, the source said, speaking to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity because he wasn’t authorized to speak for Kennedy. Earlier in the day, The New York Times and New York Post reported that Kennedy had ended her monthlong bid to succeed Hillary Rodham Clinton, who was confirmed as secretary of state.

MSNBC also reported that a person close to Kennedy denied that she was out of the running.

Spokesmen for Caroline Kennedy and for Gov. David Paterson, who will make the appointment to fill the Clinton seat, wouldn’t comment.

Is this the kind of woman that the people of New York want to be their Senator? 1 hour and 19 minutes from OUT to back IN? That is a wishy-washy, waffling, unsure, undecided person that is in possession of absolutely NO leadership skills.

What the hell, in 4 years, she could be president.

*singing* You put your right foot in…you put your right foot out… yeah yeah…

Y’know, I’m no political genius, but even I would make a better senator than she would. But my name isn’t Kennedy or Clinton, and I’m pretty much poor, so that wouldn’t work. Hmm….

I don’t suppose you’d move up to New York and take a shot at it, eh? :P

Caroline Kennedy is screwed up. Her days in Camalot were hell. Glad she withdrew. Interesting that the older men in her family did not approve of women running for office but would rather they be raising lots of kids while they also chased other women. Her mother, Jackie finally made a life for herself when she got away from the Kennedys.

Your last name doesn’t make you a good leader. Maybe someone finally told her that.

Being female she could change her mind often, I’m told it is allowed.

The people of New York don’t have to worry about conviction and determination despite the odds. Those who have stood at ground zero will understand.

The press release now is official: she is withdrawn — and rightly so. For thinking persons in New York, her insistence with no political pedigree was insulting. Oh wait, yeah, can’t insult anyone from New York. I HATE droning New York accents. I HATE Fran Drescher.

The vast majority of people in New York don’t want Kennedy as their senator. The woman is a ditz with the only thing going for her is the name Kennedy. The governor of NY is under pressure from the Kennedy clan and other prominent Democrats to appoint her. This is a woman who hasn’t even voted in an election in the past 15 years.

She is an even bigger flip-flopper than John F’n Kerry, just another example of Democratic incompitence…
