Senate passes $838 billion stimulus

February 10th, 2009 . by TexasFred

Democratic leaders vow to deliver legislation to president within days

President Barack Obama’s economic recovery plan has passed the Senate and is on its way to difficult House-Senate negotiations.

Just three Republicans helped pass the plan on a 61-37 vote and they’re already signaling they’ll play hardball to preserve more than $108 billion in spending cuts made last week in Senate dealmaking. Obama wants to restore cuts in funds for school construction jobs and help for cash-starved states.

Those cuts are among the major differences between the $819 billion House version of Obama’s plan and a Senate bill costing $838 billion. Obama has warned of a deepening economic crisis if Congress fails to act. He wants a bill completed by the weekend.

The bill backed by the White House survived a key test vote in the Senate Monday despite strong Republican opposition, and Democratic leaders vowed to deliver legislation for President Barack Obama’s signature within a few days.

Senate passes $838 billion stimulus

Any so-called Republican, let me repeat that, ANY SO-CALLED REPUBLICAN that voted FOR this bill needs to be removed from office and forced to change their political affiliation. They are NOT Republicans, they are nothing more than RINOs, Republicans In Name Only! RINO Sens. Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe of Maine and Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania broke ranks to cast their votes to advance the bill. To the people of Maine and Pennsylvania I say this, they are YOUR Senators, it is up to YOU to do something about that. I would suggest forcing them join the ranks of the unemployed as soon as is possible.

We had a few doubts at times as to whether our Senators from Texas were going to hold ranks and vote against this travesty, I am proud to say they have done so.

Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX): “At a time when American families and businesses are facing economic hardship, any ‘stimulus’ should target job creation and keeping people in their homes. This 778 page legislation that we’re looking at would cost the American people about $1 billion per page. And it’s wrongly focused on spending programs that will not effectively create jobs. I believe that the best way to jumpstart our economy is through targeted tax cuts that quickly put money back in the hands of America’s families and small businesses. These tax cuts should work in concert with a limited spending program that emphasizes projects our government is going to do anyway, moving forward military construction, infrastructure and transportation improvements which will spur job growth for Americans and for Texans in our own communities. If we could come together to do this, I think we could make this country turn around and start going in the right direction. It would be a bipartisan effort rather than what we are looking at, which is a job that I think was not put together in a bipartisan way but instead was a bill that was put on the floor with no ability to amend it with any kind of strategy or focus. I hope we can do better. The people of American certainly deserve it.”

Hutchison said it pretty well I believe. The Dems have a majority now, they are using that majority, and the traitors of the Republican party, to push through ANY bill that they feel is going to be good for their *pork filled* wallets!

If it’s not already too late, Americans may want to rethink this Democrat/Republican thing. Some of us have been preaching as hard as we can concerning the need of a NEW political party, a REAL and CONSERVATIVE party. A party that is strictly an America 1st party in ALL aspects of government and patriotism. The Democrats as a whole, and a lot of Republicans as well, have completely lost sight and ALL understanding of what it means to be a CONSERVATIVE. If this nation doesn’t return to true Conservatism, and soon, it will be too late and America will lie in ruin.

    >>> Americans may want to rethink this Democrat/Republican thing.

I agree 100%. Fact is, there is not much difference between the two any more. I am glad that both TN Senators voted against this bill. I was worried that at least one would line up with the Dems on this piece of shit bill.

I like seeing the majority of the Republicans stand against this. But that in no way means I forgive them for their past transgressions. They are the reason we are in this damn mess in the first place. While in power they spent money like a bunch of drunken democrats. (I would have used sailors, but being a veteran of the Navy I just couldn’t)

Time to stock up on Ammo and Food…..this is just the beginning of the Ebony Messiah’s power trip. And we might as well take New England and do as Barry Goldwater once said, “Saw if off and let if float into the Atlantic”{add California into the Pacific}.

Well it looks like my investment portfolio in Brass, Nitrocellulose, Copper and Lead will soon be worth more than gold. This Obamanation is starting to look more like the end of life as we know it more and more every day. The Dimwitcrats think they have carte blanche and they are abusing the power of “government” like kids in a candy store. I did not vote for any of the morons in office except Judd Gregg and I will NEVER vote for him again, he has turned out to be the worst kind of RINO, An ambush RINO who waited for the worst time to turn and stab us in the back. and the SOB didn’t even have the balls to vote against the Porkulus bill that will ultimately bankrupt us all . (Maybe Obambi was programmed by the soviets to get back at us for “Charlie Wilson’s War”.

I don’t think there is anything that hurts so much as a turncoat. Three RINOS made this monstrosity possible. Those three are actually happy to give the Socialists a victory. Grrrr.

It’s time for the left to start worrying about how the right can make the tea party look like lemonade and cookies in the park.

Maybe I’m a bit radical on this idea, but isn’t the government supposed to be working for US? Perhaps the time has come to fire every last one of them and let Real Americans take the mantel of leadership. This would, of course, require term limits on every elected office, all the way down to dogcatcher, and previous holders of office would need to be prohibited from ever holding another office as long as they live.

Oh…. By the way Judd Gregg (who sold out to Da Wun) was a mid term election senator. so I did not vote for him in the last election since he was not up for election. I will However as I wrote in my last nastygram to Jeanne Shaheen eho I was already against do whatever I can to get that lying socialist gungrabbing bitch out of the senate even if I have to run for office myself, (which I have not ruled out) Can Y’all tell I am angry!!!

Sorry to say, but one of the RINO’s who jumped ship, Arlen Specter, went along with Pennsylvania’s other liberal Senator, Bob Casey, and voted for this dog’s breakfast.
The only bright spot (if there is one) in this fiasco is that now Pelosi, reid, Kennedy et al won’t be able to blame George Bush for this utter failure.
I van see them accussing Bush of getting us INTO a situation where they had to do this, but I think people are starting to smarten up enough to say “Yeah, but YOU pencil-necked-geeks are the ones who told us this would work.”

Yesterday in my office as the news broke that most likely today the bill would pass…I told my secretary…wanna bet me tomorrow we watch the stock market CRASH? She said, ya think? I said I KNOW! Sure as shit…down 400 pts today.

The “ink” wasn’t even dry on the TV conference out here on the west coast today after passage and I kid you NOT…my phone rang here at my office and it was one of those recorded messages…”This message is in regard to your possible eligibility for relief from government stimulus package”! I hung up with my mouth hanging open…PEOPLE!!! The fix is in…has been in…and this has all been a grand scheme I think! When recorded phone calls are already going out in mass proportion within 15 minutes of the announcement…something’s funky!

The Democrats got their way. The only thing I can say is that the 3 turncoat Republican Senators will forever be kept at arms length by all the other Republican Senators.
Look what would be a daily routine if there were only democrats period.
So, we Conservatives will watch and take names and notes on all of the mistakes, graft, criminal acts that will surely happen now.

From what I have already seen, I can only hope that this business plan of the Democrats will actually work, and we will start to see positive action in our economy.

If not, then we must elect Maury Povich to be the CZAR of Relations with the blacks. His show will now be mandatory for all to watch. Yeah, that will work. mc

They vote. Geithner spouts. The stock market tanks. No one has any faith in their plans, but they just go along their merry way, screwing the people who put them there. Yep. It’s way past time to lose the D and R, and start being concerned with the “A”….as in Americans! We stopped having a representative government a while back, but it’s taking something that like to start the wake up process.

I see revolution on the horizon.

We need to follow suit with the Tennessee State House and throw those three out of the Republican Party, like they did with their Speaker.

This Bill has so much “Hidden Stuff” in it that it rightly ought to be called the “Trojan Horse Bill”. In fact that’s the term I am going to use to describe it.

Folks, we are all going to be surprised when we learn what is REALLY hidden in that bill.

I know that I am about to sound like a conspiracy nut… but… I am personally satisfied that this whole thing was, and is, a con. By “this whole thing” I mean the economic downturn, and Obama’s electron, and this Trojan Horse Bill. (I wrote a piece, about this, back in September of last year… can’t remember the title right off, but it had to do with the October Surprise coming in September instead of October.) It is three parts of one scheme to take over the country. And the socialists are behind it. Call me paranoid if you choose, but when the everybody IS out to get you, then paranoia is just damn good thinking!

I am further satisfied that this has been in the works for years… not weeks and months.

We’ve been had! We have been conned! And we have lost our country.

NOW… are you ready to create that Conservative political party??????

Mr Longstreet, I was glad to see you posted what I also have been saying for quite some time. In fact the people that I tell this too tell me I am getting too fanatical. Yes, yes indeed I am ready for the Conservative Party to take our country back
and throw these spineless scumbag POS out in the street.
This 830 billion dollar spending bill is a crock and they still wont listen to the roar of the crowd. What arrogance!!!
They have this attitude of, “You don’t tell US what to do, We tell You what to do. 2010 is coming and I think they should ALLLL be thrown out and term limits set in stone.

Years ago these kinds of things were unheard of… but then those were patriots.

  15. comment number 15 by: Deron

I really feel that the only party that we need is a single political party called “Thieves”. That is exactly what they are. If we were to do 99% of what Politicians get away with, we would be under the prison. Why is it that they get to decide what to do with our $$$$$$$? I know we elected them but, we didn’t “Sign our Souls” over to them. It’s funny how we as Taxpayers seem to be the ones funding these ginormous plans and yet we have really no say so of what it’s spent on. Why not allow us to vote on the Stimulus Package and decide what is “PORK” and what is not. It’s funny how we have hard working people losing everything they have and yet they are voting themselves a pay raise and cost of living increase as well as using our money to fund their luxurious life. I don’t see any of those ASSHOLES losing their house to foreclosure.

  16. comment number 16 by: Carl

It’s a Porkulus package and when it goes to committee to hash out the differences between the House & Senate versions, expect a lot of pork to be quietly included. By the time all is said and done I fully expect it to go well over one trillion dollars.
