Napolitano: Plan Near for Dealing With Mexico Border Violence

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said the Obama administration would soon unveil a plan for dealing with rising violence along the U.S.-Mexico border, including more resources to stem the flow of dollars and guns to warring drug gangs, the Wall Street Journal reported. (snip)

Napolitano said the plan would include more resources aimed at stopping U.S.-acquired firearms and cash earned from illicit drug sales flowing back across the border. Money and guns are fueling the escalating violence in Mexico that is spilling into U.S. communities, including in Arizona. Napolitano was the state’s governor before joining the Obama cabinet.

The above story scares the hell out of me. Not because I have anything against shutting off the money and guns to warring drug gangs, that’s a good thing, IF done correctly. What scares me is the way I am thinking that the Obama administration is going to go about this operation. I am afraid that the gun grabbers in the Obama administration will insist that ALL gun owners are involved and somehow culpable for the guns going to Mexico.

If the U.S. officials actually plan to do MORE outbound enforcement, I am all for that. If the Mexican government actually does more inbound enforcement, I am all for that too. I am also very much in favor of the BATF, state and local authorities going after ANYONE that is making ILLEGAL gun purchases and handing those weapons over to the drug cartels. There is an almost rabid insistence that Mexican drug dealers are getting guns from sources here in Texas. If that is true, I would love to see Federal and Texas officials shut these people down. Maybe it would get the gun grabbers off of the asses of the LEGAL and RESPONSIBLE gun owners in Texas.

Last night one of our local news stations here in Dallas, WFAA, did a piece on guns being bought here in Texas and sent to Mexico. The reporter, Byron Harris, is one of the best investigative reporters in the business. So, that said, I am pretty certain Byron has presented this accurately.

Texas is arming Mexican drug cartels

(from the story)Texas supplies more guns to Mexico than any other state. In 2007, more than 1,100 weapons originally sold in Texas were confiscated in Mexico, more than all other U.S. states combined.

The FN Five-Seven costs $800 to $850 at gun shops, flea markets or gun shows in Texas. But it can bring $2,600 in Mexico, where gun sales are illegal, making the FN Five-Seven attractive for smugglers.

“They have four or five people that buy these firearms legitimately,” Ruffin explained. “And then these five people don’t know each other, but they have a common source that’s providing them the money … and then they will bring those firearms to this one person, who then trafficks them down to Mexico.”

I know there are some unscrupulous gun dealers and gun buyers in Texas, there have always been around. In the days of the old west there were unscrupulous gun dealers that sold repeating rifles to the hostile Indians.

There are people that but guns, LEGALLY, but them for the cartels, they do it right here in Texas. If the gun dealer that sells them these weapons has done his job and checked them out regarding their criminal background, then HE has done his job. If the buyer takes these guns to the cartels that BUYER is the one that needs to be strung up by his Achilles tendons and left to rot!

Leave the LEGAL and RESPONSIBLE gun owners and licensed gun dealers alone, go after the real *bad guys*, those that manipulate the system in order to supply drug dealers with weapons. Go after ANY dealer that skirts the law to make these sales. Go after ANY buyer that supplies the cartels. We don’t need any more gun laws, we need to enforce the laws we have and engage in the most strict punishment imaginable against those that bring peril to this nation and to those that endanger our 2nd Amendment rights with their behavior!

Seems to me that if the feds would get off their complacent asses, get their heads out of said asses, and start patrolling the border, a lot of this illegal gun traffic would cease, plus a downturn of illegal immigration would be the result. I think all we can expect from the fed will be lies and foot dragging.

Ditto. I was thinking pretty much the same thing.

They sure have a fancy way of covering up their true agenda don’t they? It’s just an excuse of declaring “emergency measures” that will make it tough on law abiding gun owners. If they would close the border, the problem wouldn’t exist in the 1st place.

From the story: “Texas supplies more guns to Mexico than any other state.”

Crap, what they mean is that more guns in Mexico are acquired in Texas. That has a whole different meaning… We also have more border than anyone, had an armed revolution to separate from Mexico, have a huge loyal and anti-immigrant Hispanic population and we are the biggest state with a contiguous border with Mexico.

Of course, few of the guns mentioned are legally sold… most of them are stolen, illegally sold and transported into Mexico… the presence of those guns is proof of an abject failure of Texas law enforcement, Federal border enforcement and Mexico law and border enforcement… and I wonder how many are on the cartel payroll down there?

Thanks Fred for keeping us posted on this. I’m afraid of what will come next too.

If they’re getting them from legitimate dealers, then there’s a paper trail. It should be easy to see who’s buying an excessive number of guns and do some investigating. Also, any guns in Mexico that are captured, the serial numbers should be easily traceable back to the purchaser.

I just wondering who is buying the guns? I’m wondering if the may be the same people who are advocating open borders and doing all the can to get illegals into the US? Keeping the drug wars going in Mexico would be a good reason to allow as many “refuges” into the US as possible. And, since they’re refuges, might as well feed them, house them , care for them, and get them to vote Democrat.

Just think? If Bush would have done his job and secured our Southern Border, there wouldn’t be any lucrative American market for the cartels to openly battle over.

I can’t add much to what has already been said. But one things for sure; if it’s done in Texas, then it’s done big!

We need a return of Rangers, as in Arizona, Colorado, and Texas. That the courts will just accept as doing what is needed, and give them the benefit of the doubt when some low life takes a dirt bath…

    The PAPER TRAIL…

That would be entirely too simple Bob, makes way too much sense for the Obama bunch, if this was done right the government might actually do some good, but to do good would deny Eric Holder the opportunity to ignore the 2nd Amendment as he and Obama, and the other minions from hell seek to take this nation down, and all the LEGAL and RESPONSIBLE gun owners with it…

I’m not buying ANYTHING that the bitch Napolitano has to say about anything. This crap has been going on for YEARS and YEARS and just 2 weeks ago that twit NappyHeadedHo said “there’s nothing going on at the border”. NOW they are interested? Screw them.

Along the same line, NOW they are “concerned” about Jihadi Hajki training Camps in the USA? I wrote about that FIVE DAMN YEARS ago and NOW they are interested.

Time to Ruck Up, Maintain Five and Watch Six and do what we need to do and tell Uncle Imam of Obam to kiss our Texican asses.

MORE gun laws? NO. Just ENFORCE the ones already on the books! Kinda like those pesky IMMIGRATION laws.

Enforce the ones that we have? Count me out friend. Just like I said in my speech after Columbine in the counter 200 and 1 mom march… Oops, they call it a million Mom…

Anyways, we have too damned many laws, including gun laws. Let folks do what is correct and right. Period. If not? Then try them, and hang them also…
