Obama signs service bill, says volunteers needed

WASHINGTON (AP) - Calling on Americans to volunteer, President Barack Obama signed a $5.7 billion national service bill Tuesday that triples the size of the AmeriCorps service program over the next eight years and expands ways for students to earn money for college.

“We need your service, right now, in this moment in history. … I’m asking you to stand up and play your part,” said Obama, a former community organizer in Chicago. “I’m asking you to help change history’s course.”

Joining Obama was Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, who has been battling brain cancer. Kennedy championed the legislation with Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, and the bill was named in honor of the Massachusetts Democrat.

Kennedy told the audience that included former President Bill Clinton, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and former first lady Rosalyn Carter that Obama’s efforts echoed that of his late brother, former President John F. Kennedy.

“Today, another young president has challenged another generation to give back to their nation,” Kennedy said, citing his brother’s advocacy of the Peace Corps.

SIEG HIEL !! Well, that may be next once they get them together in the old re-furbished peace corps installation and training bases.
Peace Corps, Youth Corps, were the place many hard core young criminals(think inmates) went under juvenile justice sentencing.

I know as I had several of these in my area of resposibility, way back when I was on the job.

Today, well, with the mexicans and the blacks in there, in high percentages, any white teenager will take the brunt of the hazing, unless he is a truly strong fighter with top grade pugilistic skills.
    Otherwise, he is lunch.
Forget about females. Period. Won’t mix in. Think about it!

So. I will watch and see if the Obamanation and this ilk will amount to anything worthwhile.

Remember, the CCC of the 30’s that did so much good work, was comprised of only adults, mostly white, that had building skills and intelligence.
Today’s candidates for this corps, are the septic tank scrapings.
    That is a huge difference.
Am I racist or prejudice? No, not at all.
I passed all the training tests before I retired.
I only speak what is the truth, from being there.

It may be volunteers right not but not in the too far future, this service will be required for high school graduation. Many schools now require community service for required graduation credits. One of the differences I see with Obama service and what takes place now is indoctrination. Part of the service will be classroom work. You can bet Conservatives won’t be running the program.

Also, I read Sen Hatch from Utah was one of the sponsors of this program. I always though him to be Conservative; I guess maybe not.

Bob, looks to me like Hatch has proven himself to be nothing more than just another RINO!

Lets see now…spend almost $6 Billion….cut costs by $100 Million…yep does it for me…..and how would this change history?….if it weren’t more than what it seems to be…

    You “OK” sweetheart?

Every day that passes makes me more conservative (with a lower case “c”) and less Republican.

    This whole thing is horrifying.

    Hmmm…
Lets see… Full set of dental implants, lasix both eyes, some kerry botox. I might be able to sneak in…

Being a mother of 2 all I can say is NOPE not gonna happen in my house. No Left, Right, Left, Right for my kids. And indoctrination, good luck with that. No way I’m going to let someone brainwash my kids. I’ve worked to hard bringing my kids up to use their manners, respect The Constitution, Love their country, to let them change them to Obamamites. I don’t want to get banned on my first comment so I will leave it at that.

A snot nosed, pimple infested, brown shirted little thug can eat a bullet just as well as any puke can. Bring’em on, then we’ll go after the bastards that’s doing the indoctrinating if that’s the way they want it.

hardheadedtexan, about the only thing that’ll get you banned here is support OF Obama or defending the son of a bitch and his policies… :)

Borin’ Orrin Hatch has outlived any useful purpose he ever had when elected. He has a love/hate with Ted Kennedy. He loves Kennedy/Kennedy hates him! As for volunteering for the brown shirts, “vee have vays of making you volunteer, Texas Fred!”

Having been born in Germany to American Parents right after the war, I shudder at the images that creep into my mind. Are “labor camps” far behind?

    Let’s see. . .
Four trillion in new debts, minus 100 million in cabinet cuts, plus 6 billion for Obama Youth . . .
Somehow, I STILL see too much government shit.

  14. comment number 14 by: B Woodman

Oh, and as for Borin’ Orrin Hatch, his original campaign slogan was, “What do you call a Senator who’s served in office for 18 years? You call him home”.

And he’s served for over 30 years by now. WAY past time to call him home.

This, from the man who keeps attempting to get passed into law his Anti-Flag Burning Amendment.

I don’t trust the motive behind the program! Mainly because I don’t trust Obama

Again, I urge everyone to read or re-read The Thor Conspiracy, which is the sequel to The Illuminati. What is happening now, closely resembles Larry Burkett’s predictions close to 20 years ago.

I too can see a creeping transition from “voluntary” to mandatory. And now, as with ACORN, I can see this is as primarily a training ground for political PHILOSOPHY and activity. Guess whose?

I trust Obama as far as my 15 month old can throw him. I just don’t know how far he will go with his nationalization scheme. It’s scary.
