Obama signs service bill, says volunteers needed

WASHINGTON (AP) - Calling on Americans to volunteer, President Barack Obama signed a $5.7 billion national service bill Tuesday that triples the size of the AmeriCorps service program over the next eight years and expands ways for students to earn money for college.

“We need your service, right now, in this moment in history. … I’m asking you to stand up and play your part,” said Obama, a former community organizer in Chicago. “I’m asking you to help change history’s course.”

Joining Obama was Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, who has been battling brain cancer. Kennedy championed the legislation with Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, and the bill was named in honor of the Massachusetts Democrat.

Kennedy told the audience that included former President Bill Clinton, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and former first lady Rosalyn Carter that Obama’s efforts echoed that of his late brother, former President John F. Kennedy.

“Today, another young president has challenged another generation to give back to their nation,” Kennedy said, citing his brother’s advocacy of the Peace Corps.

Obama: U.S. should reach out to Taliban

Obama: U.S. should reach out to Taliban

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama says he hopes U.S. troops can identify moderate elements of the Taliban and move them toward reconciliation.

Asked in an interview with The New York Times if the United States is winning in Afghanistan, Obama said “no,” while adding “our troops are doing an extraordinary job in a very difficult situation.”

“But you’ve seen conditions deteriorate over the last couple of years. The Taliban is bolder than it was. I think … in the southern regions of the country, you’re seeing them attack in ways that we have not seen previously,” Obama said in the interview, which was posted Saturday on the Times’ website.

There may be opportunities to reach out to moderates in the Taliban, but the situation in Afghanistan is more complicated than the challenges the American military faced in Iraq, Obama said.

Obama: U.S. should reach out to Taliban

You know, I actually agree with Obama, we really DO need to reach out to the Taliban. Some Springfield M1A’s and Barrett .50′s will reach right out there and kill the sons a bitches really really DEAD! THAT is how we reach out to the Taliban! I don’t think that’s what Obama has in mind though.

I, most every blogger I know, and ALL of my readers, tried our very best to hammer it home long before this socialist bastard ever got elected. He may NOT be a Muslim, but he is most assuredly a Muslim supporter. He is a terrorist and radical Islamist appeaser of the 1st order.

Obama is not going to let the bankruptcy of America be his only accomplishment, oh no, that will NEVER do. Obama is going to give this nation over to radical Islam and China if the events of late are any indication.

Obama has associated with buffoons for so long that even he doesn’t think anything of his Attorney General making one of the most despicable race baiting remarks made by a U.S. official in a long time. Obama gently departs from Holder’s race comment

But Obama thinks Time of crisis can be ‘great opportunity’, now I have to ask, just WHO is the beneficiary of this ‘great opportunity’? The minions of the Obama administration?? The tax cheats that seem to be the only people that Obama wants to have in his administration and on his cabinet? I sure don’t see any ‘great opportunities’ coming my way. Do any of you have a grand tale of ‘great opportunity’ that you’d like to share with the rest of us?

Folks had better hope that Obama doesn’t blow this one, Obama’s to visit Turkey, focus on Iraq, the Turks were a longtime ally of the U.S. and George Bush placed a huge strain on that relationship with his foray into Iraq. The Turks, who don’t particularly like Iraq, cautioned Bush against this move, but true to form, Bush did what HE wanted to do and to hell with the consequences. That’s how we got Obama by the way. Bush and his idiocy made Obama look pretty good to some seriously weak-minded individuals.

I don’t lay full blame on Obama for the financial debacle that he inherited, that was the workings of at least the last 3 administrations put together, but Obama is squarely to blame for this *stimulus* lunacy. The idea that we can spend our way out of a financial crisis is ridiculous.

Obama IS going to try and negotiate with Russia, China, North Korea, any number of Muslim nations, al-Qaida, the Taliban and Hamas. What Obama has no concept of this idea, you do NOT negotiate from a position of weakness, you negotiate from a position of strength, and that is something that HIS administration does NOT represent. To radical Islam, negotiations are merely a sign of weakness!

Every enemy nation on earth is watching, and waiting, looking for that moment in time when they can try to do what no others ever have, take the USA and control it. And why not?? Obama won’t establish a defense, all he will do is petition for negotiations and print more money to throw at the problems.
