Poll: 4 out of 5 Americans don’t trust Washington

WASHINGTON (AP) - America’s “Great Compromiser” Henry Clay called government “the great trust,” but most Americans today have little faith in Washington’s ability to deal with the nation’s problems.

Public confidence in government is at one of the lowest points in a half century, according to a survey from the Pew Research Center. Nearly 8 in 10 Americans say they don’t trust the federal government and have little faith it can solve America’s ills, the survey found.

The survey illustrates the ominous situation President Barack Obama and the Democratic Party face as they struggle to maintain their comfortable congressional majorities in this fall’s elections. Midterm prospects are typically tough for the party in power. Add a toxic environment like this and lots of incumbent Democrats could be out of work.

The survey found that just 22 percent of those questioned say they can trust Washington almost always or most of the time and just 19 percent say they are basically content with it. Nearly half say the government negatively affects their daily lives, a sentiment that’s grown over the past dozen years.

This anti-government feeling has driven the tea party movement, reflected in fierce protests this past week.

“The government’s been lying to people for years. Politicians make promises to get elected, and when they get elected, they don’t follow through,” says Cindy Wanto, 57, a registered Democrat from Nemacolin, Pa., who joined several thousand for a rally in Washington on April 15 - the tax filing deadline. “There’s too much government in my business. It was a problem before Obama, but he’s certainly not helping fix it.”

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t 4 out of 5 the same thing as saying 80 percent? No matter how you say it, that’s a lot of dissatisfied Americans.

If those figures hold true, just imagine the bloodbath at the polls come November. Americans are waking up. The sleeping giant has been stirred, and he’s not at all happy with what he sees.

Think about this too, the Pew Research Center conducted the poll and their finding say that nearly 80% of Americans don’t trust Washington. The AP publishes this story. The AP is not known for being a right wing conservative supporting news source and they seem to have the ability to spin things in Barack Hussein Obama’s favor, on a regular basis. That said, I wonder, if AP is willing to run with 80%, what are the REAL numbers?

Majorities in the survey call Washington too big and too powerful, and say it’s interfering too much in state and local matters. The public is split over whether the government should be responsible for dealing with critical problems or scaled back to reduce its power, presumably in favor of personal responsibility.

Personal responsibility? The government, particularly this one now, the latest in a long line of power grabbing regimes, seems to think Americans are incapable of thinking for themselves. We are believed to be so desperate, so gullible and so ignorant that we’ll accept any bone the political machine throws our way.

Barack Hussein Obama being elected to the presidency was a fluke! Nothing more.

The GOP had spent 8 years trying to convince the American people that George W. Bush was the right man at the right time. I disagree with that, but given the options of voting for him or his opponents, I, as did many others, took the path of least resistance and voted for what we believed to be the lesser of the evils. As time passed it was clear, Bush had NO clue of how to run a government or conduct a war. His actions opened the door for CHANGE.

The GOP/RNC, in their collective insanity, ran the weakest ticket imaginable, McCain/Palin, and thus all but gave Barack Hussein Obama, and the CHANGE he preached, a clear path to victory.

That was then, this is now.

Now, Americans have seen, or are rapidly seeing, Obama has NO business running this nation. He is nothing more than a community organizer, he’s never had a REAL job, he was groomed by the DNC, and others, for many years. He was their golden boy, but the shine has turned to a thick coat of tarnish.

Obama and Company are a disaster. This poll from the Pew Research Center indicates a huge percentage of Americans are ready for the Obama debacle to be over and are ready for America to be returned to a Conservative lifestyle and government. We must return to a far smaller government, one that is less intrusive and does the things that FEDERAL government is supposed to do.

We are demanding a return to a Constitutional government as was intended by the Founders.

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

Establish Justice, not dictate policy to Americans. Insure domestic Tranquility, and the Obama regime has done nothing to bring about ANY kind of tranquility, domestic or otherwise. Provide for the common defence, not tear it down, not to leave our borders wide open, not to enter into SALT treaties that weaken America and leave Her all but defenseless. Promote the general Welfare, notice, it doesn’t say one word about PROVIDING welfare. Secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

That last part, secure the blessings, uh, it’s hard to ask for blessings when God isn’t allowed into our schools and communities, and what kind of blessings do we secure by declaring a National Day of Prayer to be unconstitutional? Isn’t that a bit contradictory? Not to mention highly hypocritical?

The numbers don’t lie. We are angry, we vote and come November, there’s going to be a house cleaning the likes of which our nation has never seen, and that’s just the start. In 2012, Obama is done for!

If, by the grace of God, American Patriots can’t guide the GOP/RNC in a NEW direction and secure the services of true Conservatives to run under the banner of the GOP, then it may be time for American Patriots to remember their history and how this nation came to be.

We were born of revolution, if revolution is the only way to save America from the clutches of evil socialists, then revolution it must be!

    Concerned Independents join Republicans and plan to vote Republican in upcoming elections. This is very good news.

    And yet, Fred, I don’t see very many real Conservatives on the horizon. I’d consider Paul Ryan, Tom McClintock, perhaps David Petraeus. And I don’t think the GOP “gets it” yet either — witness Lindsay Graham throwing his hat in for CapNTax.

    Again, opportunities to be PISSED away, and Republicans acting like Demorats.

    It seems the masses have awakened from a deep sleep. Thats a good thing. Should insure a record turnout for the elections in November. Time to tar and feather Lindsay Graham and throw him out of the GOP. He’s seeming more and more like a progressive plant.

    Funny how 80% say they don’t trust govt, but buy the govt’s version of 9/11 events without any reservations. And if anyone dares to question the govt on this matter……they are attacked and called unpatriotic for doing what any patriot should do-questioning their govt about anything and everything because it is their right and duty as an American.

    Count me in as one of the 80% who do not trust the government. And I agree, President Bush is directly responsible for Barack Obama becoming president. If he didn’t turn out to be so inept there is a good chance that Barack Obama would not be in the White House.

    An analyst on Fox (he was on Hannity’s show which I rarely watch, so I didn’t get his name) was saying that looking at papers (someone came up with) from the first couple of weeks Obozo was in office, the plan to push Cap n Tax is a money drawing scheme to the tune of an additional 40 billion dollars, all for the Socialist Democrats to redistribute!!! That’s 40 Billion taxpayer dollars paid out for the privilege of heating and lighting your home! It has NOTHING to do with the Global Warming Hoax but is rather a way for our government to legally rob us!!! Tar and Feathers are too good for Lindsay Graham. First he’s in bed with libbers on Amnesty… now it’s Cap n Tax!!! Sounds like Treason to me.

    I totally and completely WITHDRAW MY CONSENT, and in fact my response to my government is HELL NO!!!!

    If George W. Bush had listened more to the Pentagon than to the State Dept. and the CIA, the war in Iraq would have been conducted much, much better.

    But time and again, unfortunately, we have seen the magnificent American military win wars, only to witness the diplomats then giving it all back after the war during the negotiations.

    Diplomats and Intelligence people want to de-emphasize the contribution of the military and to hype-up the “contribution” (so-called) of themselves, the bureaucrats. They control the culture, and more’s the pity.

    This is why Bush had no clue as to how to conduct a war. He’s a good man who was let down by some of his advisors (whom he should have known better than to be led around by).

    It is easy to distrust those at the helm when they are not listening to those who put them in power, but instead to those who flood their campaign coffers with money. A small minority of special interest controls what goes on in Washington . More and more Americans are becoming keenly aware of this and are sickened at what they see.

    It’s true that Obama has little experience at governing, but we have had great leaders in the past that had less experience. Its not the experience but the underlying principles of the man that makes the leader. Its the principles and the values of Obama that make him not only a bad leader, but someone who is a threat to the nation most of us love and cherish. I could care less about his experience—its his character, his beliefs, and his values that concern me. He is representative of many who walk the halls of government thanks to an uninformed electorate and a corrupt news media that’s failing to uphold its responsibility as members of the fourth estate.
