Al-Qaida plants flag, burns bodies in Iraq attack

BAGHDAD (AP) - Militants flew an al-Qaida flag over a Baghdad neighborhood Thursday after killing 16 security officials and burning some of their bodies in a brazen afternoon attack that served as a grim reminder of continued insurgent strength in Iraq’s capital.

It was the bloodiest attack in a day that included the deaths of 23 Iraqi soldiers, policemen and other security forces across the country who were targeted by shootings and roadside bombs.

The mayhem serves as a stark warning that insurgents are trying to make a comeback three months after their two top leaders were killed in an airstrike on their safehouse, and as the U.S. military presence decreases day by day.

The complex attack began when militants struck a checkpoint in the largely Sunni neighborhood of Azamiyah, once a stronghold of insurgents that in recent years has become more peaceful. Then the militants set it on fire, burning several of the soldiers’ bodies, according to an army officer who was on patrol in the neighborhood. Minutes later, attackers detonated three roadside bombs nearby.

According to Global Security there have been, to date, 4,287 combat deaths in Iraq since we began the faux pas known as Operation Iraqi Freedom.

According to The Cost of War we have currently spent over $736 BILLION in the prosecution OF Operation Iraqi Freedom. And those numbers are climbing rapidly as you read this.

Some sources say that close to 32,000 troops have been wounded or injured. I can’t verify those numbers and I am not stating them as FACT, but those are the numbers I have at this time.

The truth of the matter is, not ALL combat injuries are easy to see. The number of U.S. troops that have suffered mental wounds is yet to be known. As is the full impact OF those wounds.

Then there’s the dead and injured contractors. KBR workers, PMC guys, Soldiers of Fortune, only God knows who else or how many of them have perished or suffered injuries.

Please tell me these deaths, injuries and unbelievable monetary expense hasn’t been in vain.

An hour before the Azamiyah attack, Vice President Joe Biden predicted there would not be an extreme outbreak of sectarian violence in Iraq as all but 50,000 U.S. forces leave the country at the end of August. He said the American troops left behind would be more than enough to help Iraqi forces maintain security.

“I can’t guarantee anything, but I’m willing to bet everything that there will be no such explosion,” Biden said on NBC’s “Today” show. He was speaking from Ft. Drum in upstate New York where he and his wife were welcoming troops home.

The 2nd most stupid person in the U.S. government needs to keep his mouth shut! Do you remember when Bush told em, “Bring it on!”, and they did?

Still, the Obama administration is keeping a wary eye on Iraq’s security. White House officials said Biden is sending two of his top national security advisers to Baghdad this weekend to help push along Iraq’s stalled political process in a sign of impatience and concern that sectarian tensions could escalate as the Americans forces withdraw.

Here’s the thing that George W. Bush didn’t get, and obviously the Obama regime doesn’t understand either; Iraq doesn’t give a DAMN about our impatience, a supported government, how many Americans have died in Iraq, how many BILLIONS of American tax dollars were spent or anything else. All they care about is the U.S. being OUT of Iraq.

Right about here is where you need to pay very close attention, I told people that Iraq was a bad decision on the part of the Bush administration. I told folks that Iraq was going to bankrupt the American taxpayer. I posted, on this blog, numerous times, the day we are OUT of Iraq, I am firmly convinced that a civil war of unprecedented intensity will erupt and won’t be over until there is another strongman dictator, one much like Saddam Hussein, emerges and takes over Iraq and rules with an iron fist.

Whether you agree with my analysis of this or not, frankly, I don’t give a damn. I have called this BS in Iraq for what it is since it’s inception, and I have been right in in my analysis on at least 95% of my posts, maybe a bit more. Find an analyst that’s hitting it right more often than that.

That’s a hell of a lot better average than the Bush or Obama administrations can tout, even if you combine them. You see, I don’t tell you what you WANT to hear, I tell you the truth, and in most cases, that is NOT what a POTUS wants to hear.

You don’t have to tell me twice Fred. In my opinion we should have nuked the bastards 4000 lives and unknown injuries ago.

Like the article says, America hasn’t fought a war since 1945.

We have been wussified by the bleeding heart assholes into thinking we can win by being “nicey nicey” and all it’s doing is bankrupting us money wise and killing and maiming our best.

Screw them ragheaded assholes, and that means ALL of them, women and children included. I have heard that if we hadn’t dropped the bombs, we would have lost upwards of a million lives trying to take Japan.

    Biden is a dipshit.

When American troops are out of Iraq, there will be civil war as Fred stated. To win a war with Muslims, you have to pound them into submission, to think anything else is foolish. Nation-building with the ragheads is a waste of time, money and our troops. There is no way the west and Islam can be harmonious. So saith the Quran.

Unfortunately, now, I seem to have changed course on Iraq.

There has to be a point at which we either, as the saying goes, “fish or cut bait.”

It is now apparent, to me, that we lack the will to truly make this a fight. And so, if we do not wish to fight, then I submit we should leave.

We can not and should not sacrifice more American lives under the banner of vacillation.

Either we fight to win, we kill people and break shit, or we leave.

I have come to this conclusion with much agony. But I cannot see more American blood spilled when we lack the will to deploy horrible things that will kill massive amounts of people and send a message.

It pains me to say “you were right.” But, after all this, it is clear to me that we are playing political games with Good American Soldiers’ lives.

And that just cannot be. No more.

BZ — Games have always been played with American troops, it goes back to Korea, and really took hold in Vietnam, but the last 20 years have been a travesty…

The last NINE YEARS have been criminal…

I feel that there are two major obstacles in being successful in iraq. First, our ROE suck. Our guys in WWII kicked major ass and were allowed to. Our soldiers were not in fear of being prosecuted because they hurt some poor alleged “civilian”. I can’t help but think that a “civilian” in iraq is merely a terrorist who threw his gun down.

Second, these people hate us and do not want freedom. They have no concept of it and I suspect actually like being ruled by their backwards ass religion. Giving these people freedom is like dressing a monkey in a tux. We may think it’s a step in the direction of being civilized, but the monkey hates it and simply wants to play in its own fecies.

Until these supposed “oppressed” peoples truly want freedom, there is nothing we can do for them. Maybe another couple hundred years of dung huts and sharia law will help them realize they need change, but I doubt it.

America became the land of the free because we the people wanted it. We understood the cost we needed to pay and the idea of feedom became ingrained in our souls. Can you imagine the revolution being successful if the majority of the people wanted to keep being British subjects? Do you think all of the efforts of the French would have been enough to declare our independence from Britain without the American people truly wanting freedom? Do you think France would have been successful in helping us fight against Britain? No, it would have failed miserably and all you would have had was a bunch of dead Frenchman who died for no reason.

Well that is the same here. All we have is a bunch of dead American soldiers died fighting for the freedom of someone else that does not want it or even know what it is. These people are not ready for freedom and we should let them live how they want. Just make sure that the message is loud and clear. If you want to kill each other (like they have been doing for centuries) fine…just don’t screw with us or there will be hell to pay.

I don’t want a war of winning the hearts and minds of these animals. If there ever is another attack on Americans, let them know that we will destroy them. Kill them all, salt the earth and leave. I strongly feel that I would rather a thousand POS iraqis horribly killed then have a single American soldier get diaper rash from having to wipe his ass with a page from the koran.

If these goat f**kers even so much as think about harming us, no boots on the ground, just lots of damn missles and bombs. (Hell, don’t we have tons of old bombs that we are costing us billions to defuse and dispose of?…just send them to iraq…who cares is they don’t explode 100% of the time).

And no rebuilding or sending them a kajillion dollars because we feel really bad about what we did either. I can almost guarantee you that if we did this once or twice, attacks against Americans would fall to darn near close to zero. Those that wish to harm us would either be all dead or the citizens who are left would be so terrified of the retribution from us, they would kill anyone that even remotely spoke of attacking us.

This is my opinion, and it may sound strong, but I am in a pissed off mood and ranting.

SDKAR………you sir, are my nomination for POTUS !!!
I think it is safe to say, that, everyone here is in complete agreement with you. You can’t hear the hands clapping but they are, trust me.

That’s the GOOD thing about this blog, real Americans, speaking their minds, unafraid to say it like it is…

Maybe a certain Rowlett City Council PC asshole that reads here could take a lesson or 2 in MANHOOD from this blog and it’s comment makers!

SDKAR, that was an awesome rant! Do it more often… :P

  9. comment number 9 by: Trencher

I agree with sdkar, although I think I would do it a little different. If there are any of them that like us, want to be like us, then send the invite. Load them up, pull all the soldiers out. Get our equipment out. Leave nothing of value behind. Then turn that place into a giant f******g chuck of glass. Let the good apples come back, give them enough supplies to make a life for them selves and let them have at it. We have our very own 51st state, and last time I checked we have drills that will cut through glass to pump out oil. And since there’s nothing but sand or in this case glass; there isn’t anything the hippie tree hugger’s can b****h about. problem solved. People happy, Wacko’s eliminated, oil shortages solved, and a bit of more tax revenue coming in to help a little with the deficit. It may sound too simple, but it still gives me warm fuzzies thinking about it.

SDKAR and Trencher-a ticket to win in 2012!

  11. comment number 11 by: Bluebonnet Sue

But …… what about “the children” ????

My idea is much like Trencher’s… help those who want out and then get all our troops out and let the citizens of those countries fight amongst themselves… just keep them contained over there. If any try to break out beyond their borders, get out the Gatling Guns… oops… I’ve seen too many westerns lately. :-)

But …… what about “the children” ????

    Napalm sticks to little children,

All the little children of the world.

    Kurds and Sunni or Shiite,

They will burn and glow all night.

Napalm sticks to little children of the world…

    Well said sdkar.

One thing; those that want to come hear better leave their religion behind. Freedom and Islam do not go hand-in-hand.
