The Case of the Mysterious Missile Launch

There are a lot of stories floating around the blogs, television networks and ALL news sources about a “mystery missile” being launched off of the coast of California Monday. The news services are all over it and speculation is running wild! Here are a few of the stories, and below I offer a bit of personal commentary.

Mystery Missile Launch Off Cali Coast

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Military is scrambling to find out what was seen in skies over Los Angeles last night after a local CBS news helicopter captured video that appears to show a major missile or rocket launch from the Pacific Ocean just north of Santa Catalina Island.

The video shows an enormous contrail following a brightly lit object, similar to images seen during a space launch.

Col. Dave Lapan, a Pentagon spokesman, told reporters the video is so far “unexplained” by anyone in the U.S. Military.

Unexplained. That pretty much describes everything that has happened during the last 2 years under Obama and Company. Now HIS DoD can’t, or won’t offer an explanation.

Mystery missile launch reported off California coast

Pentagon officials say they cannot explain reports of a missile launch off the coast of California on Monday.

A CBS News helicopter captured what looked like the vapour trail of a missile rising from the water about 35 miles (56 km) offshore.

“Right now all indications are that it was not [defence department] involvement in this launch” Pentagon spokesman Col David Lapan said.

The Pentagon does not consider the missile a threat

Why should the guys at the Pentagon consider a missile launch by unknown sources a threat? How preposterous to even expect them to be concerned. The missile can’t be a threat at this late date, it has expended itself.

Mystery Missile Launch Seen off Calif. Coast

(CBS) A mysterious missile launch off the southern California coast was caught by CBS affiliate KCBS’s cameras Monday night, and officials are staying tight-lipped over the nature of the projectile.

CBS station KFMB put in calls to the Navy and Air Force Monday night about the striking launch off the coast of Los Angeles, which was easily visible from the coast, but the military has said nothing about the launch.

Mum… Tight lipped… Silent… How many ways can they say it? No one is talking and no one is taking credit for this one.

Mystery ‘missile’ launch near L.A. no threat to national security, government officials say

Military and aviation officials said Tuesday they don’t know who may have launched a mysterious object spotted in the sky late Monday off the Southern California coast, but noted that whatever the projectile was, it did not pose a threat to national security.

Again with the “it did not pose a threat to national security” thing. Well, maybe not, but you know, when *something* launches, out of the Pacific ocean, 35 miles off of the California coast, and that something looking a lot like a ballistic missile, well, back to the old ‘walks like a duck, quacks like a duck’ analogy.

Mystery Missile: Launch of Unknown Missile Caught on Tape in California

The mystery of an apparent missile launch last night off the Southern California coast deepened today as U.S. military officials said they were still checking to see if the missile was one of theirs.

The unmistakable contrail streaking into the California sunset was captured on video last night by a KCBS news helicopter flying over Los Angeles at around 5 p.m. Pacific time.

Mystery Missile: Who Launched Missile Off California Coast?

Wait a minute. Unless something has changed, don’t we have *fail safe* built in to ALL of our missile systems? And for what it’s worth, WHY would one of OUR *Boomers* be *on station* 35 miles off of the California coast? Are we doing a James Bond on Los Angeles, Sacramento or San Francisco?

Not an altogether bad idea considering the sad state of California, but if that was a *Boomer* launch, why then did the missile, or whatever it was, take a western track?

There are all kinds of theories out there right now, a submarine accidentally made a launch. I don’t buy that one, at least not one of OUR Subs. Far too many *fail safe* procedures in place.

Another theory; a submarine was involved in a Top Secret missile test. That’s a possible, but highly unlikely. IF that were the case, the test would have been conducted FAR out to sea, far away from the eyes of citizens and news helicopters.

If it were a foreign submarine, wouldn’t the missile have been targeted to the east? In order to hit a specific target on the U.S. mainland?

Some are saying that *private rocketeers* were conducting a test and may now be afraid to take credit for such a spectacular launch, one that has brought about much publicity.

This is a mystery indeed, and one that begs to ask, just how secure is the United States under the administration of Barack Hussein Obama, HIS leadership, HIS Joint Chiefs, their guidance and ability, and does this nation indeed face at least as much threat from the *enemy within* as we do from our foreign enemies?

I am guessing that no matter HOW this turns out, Obama will find a way to blame the new Conservative Congress or George W. Bush.

Just a few years back, a Russian submarine surfaced in the middle of US Naval battle group on maneuvers. Until the submarine surfaced, it was undetected. The Russians have gone back to playing the cold war cat-n-mouse games with our military. Could this have been a test? The Kremlin has been flexing its muscle lately. A missile launched 35 miles off the coast would be impossible to stop and an undetected delivery vehicle would cause great alarm. We’ve got stealth bombers but do they have stealth submarines?

Fred, we do have fail safe procedures but I’ve wondered about them in recent years. In 2007, a nuclear armed B-52 took off from Minot AFB, ND and flew to Barksdale AFB, LA. Nobody realized the aircraft was loaded with nuclear weapons…nobody. It wasn’t discovered until the weapons were offloaded and put in an unsecured storage area and some young airman noticed something about them didn’t look right. I’ve spend 13 years on BUFF’s and in my mind I cannot conceive how that could happen.

If DoD didn’t know, then we’ve got a big problem, and a real one from the outside. Assets would be mobilizing across the nation and that mobilization would be visible. So unless we start seeing significant military operations within our borders, and I mean yesterday, I’m not buying it.

If DoD did know, or was told it was above their pay grade, then we’ve got a different problem. For a launch to be conducted by our government within the sight of a major population center has a purpose.

That, my friend, was an attempt to influence public opinion or to justify some future action. Learn the purpose and you will know who launched the missile and why.

By far the single biggest (and easiest to accomplish) threat to fataly cripling the US is an EMP attack. It only takes two medium range missiles each with a small nuclear warhead. One launched off the East Coast and the other off the West Coast, simultaneously, would destroy 98% of all electronics. Just one off the East coast would destroy 70%. Ther would be no immediate physical damage to property or people but all electric service, water supplies, vehicles (those with electronics) Etc, etc would be totally stopped. Most stand-by generators would be unable to start. There are not enough spare parts in inventory or means to transport them to make any meaningful repairs. Local food ansd medical supplies would be gone in 3 days. No way for emergencies services to be delivered. In other words the US would be in the stone age.

We have known for sometime now that the Iranians have been testing a ship launched medium range missle. The twechnology is readilly available.

Maybe this was a test launch to see if we ahve a defense which because of Bill Clinton we do not have.

    It is a scary scenario.

Either one of our subs screwed up or one of our enemies, probably Russia, wanted to demonstrate that our security isn’t all that it needs to be. Third scenario is that Obama/Soros wanted to create a panic situation so he can initiate some sort of scheme to begin total control of the homeland. Know I am reaching on this one. But we have some evil SOBs running the country right now. In any event the folks responsible for the defense of the left coast screwed up unless ordered to cover things up.

OK, for lack of having an inside track to our defense monitors, my wild ass guess is…
Obama secretly gave his Muslims friends an Atomic Submarine (fully loaded with missles) but the idiots couldn’t tell north from south or east from west while under water so they fired at what they thought was Texas Fred…but if you noticed which direction the missile went they got Alaska confused with Texas. That’s my story and I’m stick’n to it!

minuteman26 — I have been very blunt about my feelings that Obama is looking for ANY reason imaginable to institute martial law and run this nation on HIS Executive Orders…

    This may be it…

I know one thing, I personally am NOT buying the load of crap the so-called experts are trying to sell, an airplane causing a mirage, some kind of atmospheric anomaly, so far the only thing they haven’t tried is the line from MIB: “Swamp gas from a weather balloon was trapped in a thermal pocket and reflected the light from Venus.?

    So far..

Who in the hell is running this show? If you don’t know who or where the missile came from IT IS THE BIGGEST THREAT TO NATIONAL SECURITY you could imagine!

BobF: actually, it was a Chinese sub that surfaced in the midst of the USS Kitty Hawk carrier group in November of 2007.

A very quiet diesel-electric submarine. Using “old” technology.

This stinks. It just plain stinks. It appears an iceberg with so much MORE beneath the obvious waters.

NORAD doesn’t know? No one knows? Or they aren’t saying?

My guess: somehow our military got caught with its pants down around its ankles.

For what it’s worth, I think that if it was anything but one of ours, the whole area would’ve been crawling with sub chasers, destroyers, gunships, and fighters within minutes. Since the thing was obviously tracked after launch, and no friendly assets appeared in the area (as far as I know) my suspicion is that it was some kind of military test. And obviously, no one would be talking about it if the whole exercise was classified.

    For the love of Gaia… (Positions his Uncle Johnny approved, and adjusted Tin Foil hat) and says;

There I was… On the Camp Dell Mar Jetty (Camp Pendleton) night fishing. I had a really big one one the end of the line. That, or I had hooked into the fantail of the “Retreat Hell.”

When, something caught my eye… Rising from the dark blue Pacific night was a bright, as in as bright as the Sun streaks across the sky! It lit up the whole place I mean to tell y’all! It was, well, North and West of that location! Appeared to be right in front of me it was so bright, and detailed…

I cranked like all hell on the real as the damned thing had drawn a bead on me! No, it was not the Retreat Hell, but a 9 pound Chinese bass that had tried to drag me into the hold of that strange Spaceship!

Then I lost consciousness, and all I can remember is a strange female with huge green eyes doing weird things to me! Extracting… Um, this is a Family Friendly site, so, let’s just say fluid samples…

Next thing I knew, I woke up in bed at home…

I told my Step Father about it. ( He was Sargent Major of Marine Air Ops / Camp Pendleton at the time.)

“Naw’ son, you didn’t get raped by some alien female. Although some of them Mexican babes are pretty hot. Thing of it is? See, the Navy always tests things like that. Right out there just off our coats. Then, as a test we shoot them down. It’s a Marine Corps thing. What you saw, was the Marine Corps missile…

Now, I had no reason to not believe Roscoe, my Stepfather. But dang something really felt well worn down below hatches…

(Takes off the tin foil hat)

Back in the day, I’d have a lot of students that just freaked the first time that they drove Code, flip the switches on, and their minds just flipped off. Being a leader is way different than being a manager. Especially when lives are on the line; Such as mine with a newbie driving! White knuckles are not what I needed to see… So, I would sing!

“Whiskey, Rye whiskey I cried, if the ocean was whiskey and I was a duck? I’d swim to the bottom, and never come up!”
If that didn’t work, I’d pull out the big gun!
“I don’t care if it rains or freezes long as I got my plastic Jesus, sitting on the dashboard of my car! And I don’t care if it’s dark and dreary long as I got that virgin Mary sitting on the dashboard of my car!”

    Same damned thing…

This is a strange story indeed, and I have no ideas what happened here. I wouldn’t be surprised if this was China launching a missle just to show us they could. One thing is certain-it is a little disconserting that this happened so close to home, it makes you wonder what is going on here. It certainly doesn’t give me a warm and fuzzy feeling about how secure this administration is keeping us.

    Bob Mack:

I disagree. I submit that you don’t know the disarray in which our current Navy, for example, exists. You seem to think that various task forces exist in most every coastal port. This couldn’t be further from the truth.

Clinton RIF’d the FUCK out of our military. He closed bases like no one before or since.

If you think, America, that our military forces exist, poised, hovered, over various ships or planes — just waiting to be deployed — you would be sorely mistaken.

    Those days are fucking OVER.

NAME for me, if you will, your local AFB or port where you can be assured there is an amass of military assets to be IMMEDIATELY deployed in case of emergency?

    I’m waiting.

    Further, I’ll ask you THIS:

When was the last time you saw an actual USAF MILITARY aircraft flying OVER you?

When was the last time you saw an actual USN warship in dock or underway?

    America:

You seem to think that our military is so incredibly responsive; that it will always protect us. You haven’t the first clue.

I submit that Texas Fred’s personal Springfield XD .45 is more responsive — in a military or LE fashion — than any federal response could EVER be.

ALL protection is LOCAL, ladies and gentlemen.

Again, placing hope and change in your fed? Best not count on that, I suggest.

BZ, my mistake on the sub…thanks for catching it.

There are fighter aircraft sitting alert, armed and ready to fly. I wouldn’t know how many but I’m going to assume that it isn’t a large force and a majority of them are Guard and Reserves. The days of nuclear armed bombers sitting alert on SAC bases dotted across the US and rows of NORAD fighters ready to intercept whatever the USSR could throw against us are long gone. Our fleet of over 300 B-52′s in 1990 is down to only about 70…thank you HW Bush and Clinton.

It couldnt be China, if they were to attack us then they never would get the money back we owe them. They need us to keep working.

  18. comment number 18 by: Always On Watch

That our so-called national security people don’t have a clue as to the identity or the origin of this missile is alarming.

    We are not safe!

    Clearly.

Gotta love Patrick when the tinfoil hat goes on!!! LOL!!! That was the funnest comment read I’ve seen in months!

I knew the comments would be good on this one. Enjoyed your post Fred!!! Honest to gawd I don’t know how moonbats can stick there heads in the sand and believe whatever BS comes their way on this stuff. I think you are so spot on… martial law is the goal!

  20. comment number 20 by: BobF

I just watched retired USAF Lt. Gen McInereny on Hannity and he believes it’s a missile. He accurately described the launch sequence and when the missile’s guidance system came on line, making its course correction and continuing on a smooth flight. He doesn’t believe it’s necessary a launch by a foreign nation as it may be “Black Opps”. Myself, I think a retired 3-star general with over 4,100 hours in fighter aircraft and 407 combat missions should definitely know what he’s talking about when it comes to the characteristics of missiles and aircraft in flight.

  21. comment number 21 by: TexasFred

One of my military contacts says it’s not *Black Ops*, it’s an *Oops*, and I have to seriously consider it too, IF it had been a missile fired by a foreign power we’d have heard of some nation having a leader that suddenly suffered an unexpected demise… If it was one of OUR *black ops* it would have been a long ways out to sea, no witnesses…

I am firmly convinced it was a missile and not some mirage or some weather and sunshine at sunset BS lie that the DoD is trying to pass off on us…

Oops is looking pretty good right now, otherwise, how do the *powers that be* know that we are in NO danger from this whatever the hell it was??

  22. comment number 22 by: BobF

Fred, I think you might be right on the money about that Oops. That B-52 launching with the nukes was a big Oops that wasn’t ever suppose to happen without presidential order.

  23. comment number 23 by: Patrick Sperry

Thanks HAM! I’m with Fred on this. Someone screwed up, big time IMO.
