Armed 85-year-old woman forces intruder to call cops
POINT MARION, Pa. (AP) — An 85-year-old woman boldly went for her gun and busted a would-be burglar inside her home, then forced him to call police while she kept him in her sights, police said.
“I just walked right on past him to the bedroom and got my gun,” Leda Smith said.
Smith heard someone break into her home Monday afternoon and grabbed the .22-caliber revolver she had been keeping by her bed since a neighbor’s home was burglarized a few weeks ago.
“I said ‘What are you doing in my house?’ He just kept saying he didn’t do it,” Smith said.
After the 17-year-old boy called 911, Smith kept holding the gun on him until state police arrived at her home in Springhill Township, about 45 miles south of Pittsburgh.

And this is the exact reason the American homeowner should be armed. When a 85 year old woman has more guts than many so-called men, well, go get em Granny, ya done good!
Recently we’ve had a string of home burglary attempts here in MY little corner of Texas. Daylight home invasions. And in ALL 5 incidents the residents have been home when these little thugs struck. And in all 5 instances there has been a reasonably good I.D. made of the burglars.
Now here’s the one thing that just torques me to no end. We have the The Castle Doctrine here in Texas, and thank God we do. Many of you also are aware of the case of Joe Horn and the shooting in Pasadena, TX and this: Joe Horn cleared by grand jury in Pasadena shootings
Now personally, I think the Castle Doctrine was used to push the envelope a bit on this one, but a clear precedent was set, in Texas, the homeowner is King of the Castle. King, that is, if he’s a gun owner and not afraid to actually USE a gun in defense of his home and family.
OK, back to the burglaries here in my little corner of Texas, 5 so far, good descriptions, a really good Police Department all over this thing, sounds good so far. Except for one little thing. The bad guys are still breathing free Texas air.
One of these daytime home invasions took place 4 or 5 houses down from me, on the opposite side of the street, the guy was home, he locked himself in an upstairs bedroom and called the police. When the burglars heard him slam the bedroom door, they fled, and in many ways, that’s a good thing I suppose, if the guy was unarmed and/or untrained, but the bad guys are still out there, on our streets, presenting a clear and present danger to all the decent homeowners in my little corner of Texas.
In all 5 cases the description was the same, height, weight, race, hair, vehicle, all of it. These little hoodlums are going to kick in the wrong door and some well armed and well trained retired military or law enforcement guy, a gun nut that loves to shoot, some of our survivalists types or just one of our all around wonderful CHL holding neighbors is going to punch their ticket and send their asses to hell. I wonder what kind of *racists* we’ll be when that happens.
Oh, I didn’t mention it?? Yeah, both are black. I didn’t want to be accused of *racism* or racial profiling by using that as a part of the description.

Army leaders defend supervision of soldier care unit
LAWTON, Okla. — Mold infests the barracks that were set up here a year ago for wounded soldiers after poor conditions at Walter Reed Army Medical Center triggered a systemwide overhaul, soldiers say.
Twenty soldiers, who spoke to USA TODAY early last week, said their complaints about mold and other problems went unheeded for months. They also said they had been ordered not speak about the conditions at Fort Sill.
Officers at the Army base last week ordered that ventilation ducts in two barracks be replaced and soldiers be surveyed, anonymously if they wished, about any concerns. Maj. Gen. Peter Vangjel, the commanding officer, said it was “inappropriate” for soldiers to be ordered not to talk about the mold.
“We’re going in and we’re going to take care of this for these guys,” he said over the weekend.

Soldiers: Mold infests Okla. barracks for wounded
LAWTON, Okla. — Staff Sgt. Michael Riley plans to leave the Army later this month on a medical discharge. He suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder along with back and brain injuries from blasts in Iraq. And he’s angry about the care he received at Fort Sill’s program for wounded soldiers here.
Riley is among 20 soldiers who complained to USA TODAY last week about mold in the barracks, delays in processing medical cases and morale in the Warrior Transition Unit (WTU) for wounded and injured outpatients at Fort Sill, an artillery training installation. While leaders of the unit are addressing the mold issues, they defended the unit’s supervision and morale.
After problems surfaced last year at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., the Army established a WTU at each of 35 installations. Soldiers assigned to these units receive specialized care. They are assigned a squad leader, nurse case manager and doctor to care for them, and usher them to return to duty or medical retirement. “Those three people are with this soldier from start to finish … (to ensure) that the soldier can get through the system without having to fight,” Gen. Michael Tucker said in announcing the program last year. “The soldier’s mission is to heal.”
But as the number of soldiers in the program doubled from 6,000 to 12,000 by June, individual care slipped, congressional investigators found. In July, Army leaders told Congress they were struggling to improve the program. “It takes time to kill bureaucracies,” Lt. Gen. Michael Rochelle said.

We spend BILLIONS of U.S. taxpayer dollars to finance the Iraqi government in their CIVIL WAR, but we won’t spend the necessary money to properly care for the troops that we send into harms way to carry out the actions and wishes of our President.
I wrote a piece a while back called A matter of Inconvenient Hypocrisy, and in it I pointed out the hypocrisy that I feel is shown by so many sites that support Bush, and ANY decision he makes, sites that declare their undying love of George W. Bush and the troops, sites that declare they are 100% in support of the troops and the wars we fight. Unequivocal support.
Yet in that support they never, or at most, rarely, address issues such as this. Why does it take having the MSM get involved to get anything done for the troops?
A matter of Inconvenient Hypocrisy? Or blind Bush Bot devotion? Either way, I am NOT drinking that Kool Aid. You either support the troops, AND their after-action care, 100%, or you’re a hypocrite that’s waving the flag in an effort to impress a few weak minded readers.

Iraq moves against some US-backed Sunni fighters
BAGHDAD - The Shiite-led government is cracking down on U.S.-backed Sunni Arab fighters in one of Iraq’s most turbulent regions, arresting some leaders, disarming dozens of men and banning them from manning checkpoints except alongside official security forces.
The moves in Diyala province reflect mixed views on a movement that began in 2007 among Sunni tribes in western Iraq who revolted against al-Qaida in Iraq and joined the Americans in the fight against the terrorist network.
U.S. officials credit the rise of such groups, known variously as Awakening Councils, Sons of Iraq and Popular Committees, with helping rout al-Qaida.
But Iraq’s government is suspicious of such groups, fearing their decision to break with the insurgency was a short-term tactic to gain U.S. money and support. The government fears they will eventually turn their guns against Iraq’s majority Shiites.
The effort in Diyala northeast of Baghdad began last month as U.S. and Iraqi forces launched an operation against al-Qaida and other extremists in that region.

Civil War: –noun
a war between political factions or regions within the same country.
Can I define this in any other way? One that can be more easily understood or readily digested?
Iraq is now, and has been for quite some time, engaged in a CIVIL WAR, by ANY definition.
I have had several supposed scholarly writers try and tell me otherwise. These are the facts, the war in Iraq is now a CIVIL WAR and it’s root cause is the differences between the ideologies of Sunni and Shiite Muslims, who gets to be in charge, who sided with the Great Satan, that would be us, and who is going to subscribe to the teachings of a goat loving pedophile and false prophet, that would be Mohamed and the *Religion of Hypocrisy*.
And here is the part we need to ALL consider, Iraq will always be in a state of upheaval, political or religious, or in their case, both, since in Iraq they are one in the same. And if these upheavals are taking place with U.S. troops in place, and an Iraqi force that we are being led to believe is ready to step up and take full control of Iraq, what is going to happen as soon as U.S. forces are gone from Iraq?
I’ll tell you exactly what’s going to happen, and believe me when I say, I don’t want to see U.S. troops in Iraq for one minute longer, but here’s the drill as soon as we’re gone. All out CIVIL WAR erupts, Shiite militias, funded and supplied by Iraq, via Russia, will go into full attack mode against the Sunni population. Total chaos will ensue, another *strong man*, the likes of Saddam will emerge, at least 4,143 U.S. troops will have died in vain, BILLIONS of our tax dollars will have been wasted and Iraq will return to the status quo.
The only thing I am not sure of at this particular point in time is this, will the new *strong man* be Sunni or Shiite? That is dependent on the winner of the CIVIL WAR and the winds of Iraqi politics, and the full blown CIVIL WAR is almost assured.
I hope Mr. Bush enjoys his legacy, the USA is in a true *No Win* situation, it’s damned if you do and damned if you don’t. Thank you Mr. Bush.

If there’s one thing Texans are serious about, it’s pickups.
But a Frisco man says his truck is being targeted simply because his homeowners association doesn’t think it’s classy enough.
Jim Greenwood said he never dreamed his HOA would have a problem with his new Ford F-150 pickup. Then he received the first of three notices threatening him with fines.
“Mr. Greenwood, you’re violating a subdivision rule that prohibits pickup trucks in your driveway,” the notice reads.
Stonebriar HOA rules allow several luxury trucks on driveways, including the Cadillac Escalade, Chevy Avalanche, Honda Ridgeline and Lincoln Mark LT.
But most Ford, Dodge or Chevy pickups are restricted.

Frisco man says HOA won’t let him park pickup on driveway
OK, this one takes the *dumbest crap of the day* title, hands down!
I wouldn’t live in an HOA community for anyone, and stuff like this is the reason why.
A while back another HOA here in north Texas was giving a homeowner a lot of grief over having an American flag flying, on a flag holiday. I don’t remember if it was Memorial Day or what, but the HOA lost that battle, public opinion, and this being Texas, well, they realized that there was a potential lynching in the works.
Some of the comments in the original story are great, I left them a bit of my wit too.
“Rich people drive pickups too, these clowns are nothing but a bunch of anal retentive, faux intellectual stuck-ups that oughta be in California drinking lattes and watching the whales with the rest of the fruits and nuts…”
And I mean every word of it too!

Windmills split upstate NY town and families
LOWVILLE, N.Y. - “Listen,” John Yancey says, leaning against his truck in a field outside his home. The rhythmic whoosh, whoosh, whoosh of wind turbines echoes through the air. Sleek and white, their long propeller blades rotate in formation, like some otherworldly dance of spindly-armed aliens swaying across the land.
Yancey stares at them, his face contorted in anger and pain.
He knows the futuristic towers are pumping clean electricity into the grid, knows they have been largely embraced by his community.
But Yancey hates them.

LINGLEVILLE, Texas — Johnny and Tesa Whitley bought 350 acres in rural Erath County to raise horses and enjoy the breathtaking sunsets, but their view is now marred by something they never expected: two dozen wind turbines.
The 400-foot-tall turbines tower over trees atop ridges, some just a mile away. At night the structures’ bright red lights blink intermittently, even reflecting in their lake, Tesa Whitley said.
“We had a beautiful horizon, and now all we see is turbines,” she said.

Erath County residents band together to fight wind turbines
I want my readers to see what pure idiots look like. The people featured in these 2 stories have NO idea how much worse it could be if they were subjected to *other* forms of electrical power generation in their immediate neighborhood.
The folks in Lowville, New York sound more like a case of *sour grapes* story, maybe Dad didn’t consult angry little Johnny before he allowed wind towers to be built on *family land*, who knows, but little Johnny has a bur under his saddle, over wind towers.
I have to wonder, would these folks prefer a nuclear power plant in their neighborhood?? How about one of those nasty old coal fired plants?? Would that make these people happy ya suppose??
Wind power is one of the cleanest forms of electrical power generation today, hydroelectric is clean too but there’s no really big rivers in Erath county to dam up. Wind power is safe and clean, you can’t ask for more than that, and the *tree huggers* are always pissing and moaning about saving the environment. Well, this is it, and people complain about that too.
You can make some of the people happy some of the time, apparently this isn’t one of ‘em. Suck it up Johnny and Johnny, wind power is here to stay, and face it, if it wasn’t wind power, you’d likely find something else to be pissed off over.
In California the tree huggers protest the birds being killed, the birds that are so stupid that they fly into the moving blades. In Oregon it was a protest to stop a wind farm from going in because it would disrupt a prairie dog town. A prairie dog town for crying out loud!
I seriously don’t know what it takes to make the envionazis happy. Do you?
