Iranian police clash with protesters

Iranian police clash with protesters

EDITOR’S NOTE: Iranian authorities have barred journalists for international news organizations from reporting on the streets and ordered them to stay in their offices. This report is based on the accounts of witnesses reached in Iran and official statements carried on Iranian media.

Several thousand protesters — some chanting “Where is my vote?” — clashed with riot police in Tehran on Sunday as Iran detained local employees of the British Embassy, escalating the regime’s standoff with the West and earning it a stinging rebuke from the European Union.

Witnesses said riot police used tear gas and clubs to break up a crowd of up to 3,000 protesters who had gathered near north Tehran’s Ghoba Mosque in the country’s first major post-election unrest in four days.

Americans are all up in the air, wanting to take to the streets like the Iranians. But our fight is over the Cap and Trade bill passing a vote in Congress, not a presidential election.

These people calling for take it to the streets protests have NO idea. People WILL die. Are Americans gutsy enough for that? Are you ready to become a martyr for the cause?

It’s hard to get people out protesting this issue when they see THEIR Congresscritters doing a GREAT job and representing their constituents as We, The People demand! It’s hard to get folks from here in my part of Texas to protest against the ones that aren’t doing the right thing. They aren’t our Congressmen.

ALL of our North Texas representatives voted against Cap and Trade. OUR Representatives did their job! The Congresscritters that voted FOR this debacle need to be taken to the woodshed by THEIR voters.

I tried to send a message to each one of the Putrid 8, I wanted to voice MY anger too! These clowns don’t accept messages from people NOT in their constituency. Imagine that!

And let’s face the cold hard facts, standing on the street protesting some IDIOT congressman that is not my congressman is a lot like the people on Facebook and all their *Impeach Pelosi* bullshit. There is NOTHING that I, as a Texan, can do about Pelosi, other than implore my Congressman to oppose the ignorant old bitch. And he does, at every opportunity.

Protest is only effective when heads roll. Faint heart ne’er won fair lady.

If the people of a certain ward, precinct, county or state don’t take up the fight against their idiot Congresscritters, there’s not a damn thing that I can do to help them. A man that won’t fight for himself is NOT worth ME fighting FOR him.

This is not a time for the weak of heart, if it’s protest you want, by all means, PROTEST, and do it heartily! If blood bothers you, you had better stay home, as the title said, There Will Be Blood!

House leaders win key converts on bailout bill

House leaders win key converts on bailout bill

WASHINGTON (AP) – Desperate to avoid another market-crushing defeat, House leaders won key converts Thursday to the $700 billion financial industry bailout on the eve of a make-or-break second vote.

President Bush and congressional leaders lobbied furiously for the dozen or so supporters they’d need to reverse Monday’s stunning setback and approve a massive rescue plan designed to stave off national economic disaster.

Anything but reassured, investors sent the Dow Jones industrials plunging another 348 points, suggesting Wall Street is expecting tougher economic times even if the measure is rushed into law. The Federal Reserve reported record emergency lending to banks and investment firms, fresh evidence of the credit troubles squeezing the country.

“A lot of people are watching,” Bush pointed out – as if lawmakers needed reminding – and he argued from the White House that the huge rescue measure was the best chance to calm unnerved financial markets and ease the credit crunch. He was calling dozens of lawmakers, a spokesman said.

We, The People are being ignored. 75% of the U.S. Senate has ignored the will of the people, we can only hope that the Members of Congress are more attuned to We, The People than our esteemed Senators are.

My Congressman is Mr. Sam Johnson. I really like Sam, he is a great guy over all, and he is a good man.

Sam Johnson returned home to Texas after serving in the U.S. Air Force for 29-years as a highly decorated fighter pilot. He flew combat missions in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars and was a Prisoner of War in Hanoi for nearly seven years.

After his distinguished military career, Johnson started a home-building business from scratch and served in the Texas legislature. In 1991, he embarked on a new mission of service to his country – representing the people of Texas’ Third District in the United States Congress.

A vocal advocate of less government and lower taxes, Johnson sits on the prestigious Ways and Means Committee. Johnson serves as the Ranking Member on the Social Security Subcommittee and is one of the few Members of Congress to have his own plan to strengthen Social Security with personal accounts.

One of a handful of combat veterans in Congress, Johnson has led the charge to stand up for the troops on the ground – regardless of the political posturing in Washington, DC.

I hope Mr. Sam is paying attention, because as much as I like him, and as much as I admire him, if he votes FOR this now close to $850B bailout BS, I will works as hard as I possibly can to make sure that this is his last term, nice guy or not, Vietnam and Korean war hero be damned, this is about saving America, not the corporate big wheels that are trying to destroy her!

Folks, our elected officials must be fully aware, they work for US, they work for you and me, as in We, The People. It is NOT the other way around, and any Senator or Representative that pawns this BS off on us needs to be fully aware of this fact, they just signed their own termination slip!

For TEXAS Bloggers ONLY!

For TEXAS Bloggers ONLY!

The information in this post is pretty well Texas specific but you folks in other states may want to make a move in this same direction! Hammer your Senators if they voted FOR this debacle. Pull your support and let them KNOW you have pulled it.

John Cornyn and Kay Bailey Hutchison, our U.S. Senators from Texas both voted FOR the bailout last night.

Today I dropped my support of Sen Cornyn and his re-election to the post of Senator, and I sent the Cornyn campaign and Sen Cornyn himself an email letting them know, it can be read in the thread linked here: Texas House members see opposition to bailout bill weakening

In a very short time I was contacted by Vincent Harris, wanting my phone number, their campaign manager wanted to talk to me, and I told him NO, I could not, and would not support ANY candidate that voted to bailout $700B, a figure that is still low, actual figures are reported closer to $820B, and that I was pulling their logo from TexasFred’s, The American Conservative and The Texas Connection, and I did.

Jimmy Kerr of But That’s Just My Opinion posted a message in my comments saying he had done the same thing. Jimmy and I are trying to contact and encourage as many Texas bloggers as possible to contact Vincent and let him know that YOU are doing the same thing as well, lets send Cornyn a HUGE, Texas sized message!

Please, if you believe that this is a very important issue, PLEASE contact Vincent and tell him that you’re dropping the logo too, and ask to be removed from their blog roll, no LINK is that important, request that your blog be taken OFF of their roll…

Contact Vincent here:
vincent@johncornyn.com

I think our elected officials have forgotten how bloggers rose to the challenge on the ILLEGAL Immigration issue, we can, and MUST do it again, and there is NO time to waste. The House votes tomorrow, FLOOD your Congresscritters with email, make them painfully aware that IF they vote this BS through, they have just signed their own termination notice.

Layoff’s are in order, permanent ones, it’s time that these pandering politicos realized just WHO they work for…
