Cash for Clunkers boosts July US auto sales

DETROIT (AP) - Lured by the government’s cash for clunkers campaign, car and truck buyers started returning to showrooms last month, as Ford Motor Co. reported its first U.S. sales increase in nearly two years and other major automakers said sales showed signs of stability.

Overall, automakers are expected to turn in strong performances, most notably Korea’s Hyundai Motor Co., which may pass Chrysler Group LLC and Japan’s Nissan Motor Co. in sales for the first time in history. July sales, if converted to an annual rate, could top 10 million cars and trucks, the first month this year that sales rose above that depressed level.

As recently as 2007, U.S. car and light truck sales topped 16 million vehicles, but the recession, tight credit and a lack of consumer confidence sent sales plunging late last year and during the first half of 2009.

Ford, led by the redesigned midsize Ford Fusion, and strong sales of the Escape crossover vehicle and F-series pickup line, offered encouraging signs for industry analysts who predicted a modest improvement in the second-half of the year.

Cash for Clunkers, what a concept…

Do our elected officials think that every person in the United States is dumb enough to fall for this? Do they believe we’re dumbed down to the point of being mindless zombies that just follow along blindly and never question their intent or methods?

Yes, that is, more or less, a highly rhetorical question.

Cash for Clunkers… Can you say smoke and mirrors? I think you can.

All that cash for all those clunkers is good for the auto industry I suppose, and yeah, better fuel mileage is a good thing too, but do the folks in the Senate think WE, The People don’t know that we’re the ones paying for this somewhat different form of a well camouflaged bail out?

I don’t blame the folks that are taking advantage of the Cash for Clunkers program, they need cars, and this is a way to get what looks like a really good deal, at the moment.

In the long run, everyone that buys a car under this Cash for Clunkers program has every American taxpayer as a co-signer on their car loan. But you know, I am betting that none of them are going to come by my house and ask me to go take a ride in their nice, new, fuel efficient car. Not even to go to Sonic during Happy Hour!

Congress approved the plan early in July, but the government considered suspending it on Thursday after an overwhelming response threatened to deplete the $1 billion allocated for the rebates.

But the program continued and the House voted to allocate another $2 billion to keep the sales going. The program’s fate hangs on whether the Senate will vote to extend more funds this week.

Where, exactly, are these funds coming from? Anyone? Bueller?

A Message for ALL Senators and Members of Congress

July 24th, 2009 . by TexasFred

A Message for ALL Senators and Members of Congress

If you Vote for the ObamaCare or Cap and Trade bills, YOU’RE FIRED!!

How simple can it be? We can’t spell it out in any more clear language than this.

Sen. Cornyn of Texas has said he will vote against. Sen. Hutchison has intimated that she may vote against. Hutchison is, at best, a wild card. I don’t know if she can be counted on any more.

One other thing, my Congressman, Mr. Sam Johnson (R-3), is as solid as a rock. He will NEVER vote for such nonsense!

White firefighters win Supreme Court appeal

White firefighters win Supreme Court appeal

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Supreme Court ruled Monday that white firefighters in New Haven, Conn., were unfairly denied promotions because of their race, reversing a decision that high court nominee Sonia Sotomayor endorsed as an appeals court judge.

The ruling could alter employment practices nationwide and make it harder to prove discrimination when there is no evidence it was intentional.

New Haven was wrong to scrap a promotion exam because no African-Americans and only two Hispanic firefighters were likely to be made lieutenants or captains based on the results, the court said Monday in a 5-4 decision. The city said that it had acted to avoid a lawsuit from minorities.

The ruling could give Sotomayor’s critics fresh ammunition two weeks before her Senate confirmation hearing. Conservatives say it shows she is a judicial activist who lets her own feelings color her decisions. On the other hand, liberal allies say her stance in the case demonstrates her restraint and unwillingness to go beyond established precedents.

Sonia Sotomayor is a judicial activist and she does let her feelings color her decisions. Her words and judicial decisions stand in testament. And this is one example;

“I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life,?

Sotomayor is, in MY opinion, a racist of the 1st order. And again, in MY opinion, she is going to attempt to legislate from the bench. She is the worst choice for the SCOTUS that FREE Americans could ever face. She is however, the perfect choice for a POTUS that may very well be a Kenyan in disguise. A FAKE president.

I’m not saying that we can’t work with a moderate on the SCOTUS, but Sotomayor is NOT a moderate, not in ANY way. She is a Hispanic, female, racist, activist, and if she is seated on the SCOTUS, how can any more of her ridiculous rulings ever be overturned?

Employment has long been the victim of affirmative action. Applicants have been graded on a curve, test scores have been adjusted to make up for low scores.

I don’t care what color the police officer, fire fighter, doctor, teacher or any other person is. The color of their skin should NEVER be the reason for ANY person to hold a particular job or is promoted in the course OF that job.

Grading on a curve is a joke. Standardize testing is the only way to go. Promotions should be based on knowledge and merit. Set the criteria for pass and fail, if individuals don’t PASS, by the standard that is set for all, too bad, so sad. Maybe you just weren’t cut out for that particular position. No matter WHAT color you are.

If our educational system is to blame for certain groups not scoring as well as others, or not getting the same level of quality education as other groups, address the problem in the educational system. Don’t penalize the people because they made the highest score, and through no fault of their own just don’t happen to be the right race or color to make the necessary numbers add up!

Folks, we have some serious battles coming, the Sotomayor nomination is one of them. Cap and Trade in the Senate is another. Hammer your Senators unmercifully, be they Democrat, Republican or Independent. Hammer them to the point that they in NO WAY have ANY doubt where We, The People stand on these issues.

Accept nothing but their very best. Demand their very best!. If they give you less than the best, remove them from office.

And this just in:

U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, today issued the following statement regarding President Obama’s cap-and-trade proposal, which is scheduled to be voted on by the House of Representatives today:

Full Release Here:
Sen. Cornyn: Texas Would Suffer Major Losses Under Cap-And-Trade

Let’s see where Kay Bailey Hutchison falls in on this. She may vote against Cap and Trade, but even if she does, she is DONE in my opinion. No matter HOW she votes this time, she is a wild card at best and needs to be put to pasture.

Iranian police clash with protesters

June 28th, 2009 . by TexasFred

Iranian police clash with protesters

EDITOR’S NOTE: Iranian authorities have barred journalists for international news organizations from reporting on the streets and ordered them to stay in their offices. This report is based on the accounts of witnesses reached in Iran and official statements carried on Iranian media.

Several thousand protesters — some chanting “Where is my vote?” — clashed with riot police in Tehran on Sunday as Iran detained local employees of the British Embassy, escalating the regime’s standoff with the West and earning it a stinging rebuke from the European Union.

Witnesses said riot police used tear gas and clubs to break up a crowd of up to 3,000 protesters who had gathered near north Tehran’s Ghoba Mosque in the country’s first major post-election unrest in four days.

Iranian police clash with protesters

Americans are all up in the air, wanting to take to the streets like the Iranians. But our fight is over the Cap and Trade bill passing a vote in Congress, not a presidential election.

These people calling for take it to the streets protests have NO idea. People WILL die. Are Americans gutsy enough for that? Are you ready to become a martyr for the cause?

It’s hard to get people out protesting this issue when they see THEIR Congresscritters doing a GREAT job and representing their constituents as We, The People demand! It’s hard to get folks from here in my part of Texas to protest against the ones that aren’t doing the right thing. They aren’t our Congressmen.

ALL of our North Texas representatives voted against Cap and Trade. OUR Representatives did their job! The Congresscritters that voted FOR this debacle need to be taken to the woodshed by THEIR voters.

I tried to send a message to each one of the Putrid 8, I wanted to voice MY anger too! These clowns don’t accept messages from people NOT in their constituency. Imagine that!

And let’s face the cold hard facts, standing on the street protesting some IDIOT congressman that is not my congressman is a lot like the people on Facebook and all their *Impeach Pelosi* bullshit. There is NOTHING that I, as a Texan, can do about Pelosi, other than implore my Congressman to oppose the ignorant old bitch. And he does, at every opportunity.

Protest is only effective when heads roll. Faint heart ne’er won fair lady.

If the people of a certain ward, precinct, county or state don’t take up the fight against their idiot Congresscritters, there’s not a damn thing that I can do to help them. A man that won’t fight for himself is NOT worth ME fighting FOR him.

This is not a time for the weak of heart, if it’s protest you want, by all means, PROTEST, and do it heartily! If blood bothers you, you had better stay home, as the title said, There Will Be Blood!
