Boy Shot 8 Times By Police After Possessing BB Gun
CHICAGO – Chicago police late Monday shot and wounded a 13-year-old boy who one official said was holding a BB gun, the second police-involved shooting of the night.
No officers were injured in the roughly 11 p.m. shooting in the 1000 block of North Kedvale Avenue in the West Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side, authorities said.
His parents identified the boy as Jimmell Cannon, who they said was a “straight A, B student” about to enter 7th grade at Piccolo Specialty School and who was out last night to celebrate a cousin’s birthday in West Humboldt Park.
Andrea McClay, who described herself as a witness, told WGN-TV that Jimmell “did not have a weapon in his hand of any sort … he didn’t have anything in his hand.”

Boy Shot 8 Times By Police After Possessing BB Gun
Of course Andrea McClay is right, poor little Jimmell is innocent and his heart is as pure as the driven snow. There’s no way those EVIL Chicago police officers saw sweet Jimmell point what appeared to be a GUN at them.
That’s why the officers filed this FALSE report blaming poor little Jimmell, saying that he did indeed have what appeared to be a GUN and that he pointed it at them, those evil racist Chicago cops are lying just to cover their actions.
So, let’s go ahead and get it out there, let’s beat Je$$ie Jack$on and Al $harpton, the NAACP, the ACLU and all of the rest of the libber/left and cry RACISM! They shot poor little Jimmell because they were RACIST cops.
You know that’s exactly how this will play out too, don’t you?
I’m pretty sure that the *bleeding hearts* among us will use those exact words in an effort to vilify the police officers for defending themselves, but I’d also be willing to bet that those same *bleeding hearts* never had to face down an armed criminal or carried a gun for a living or were cops and/or combat soldiers.
I don’t know about these kids today but even in MY youth, in a quiet and peaceful small town, you didn’t walk around with a BB Gun in your hands.
We all had guns, everyone had a .22 or a shotgun, we were small town kids and we hunted, but we didn’t walk through the neighborhood carrying a gun.
As we got a little older, high school age, we all had pickup trucks and most of us had a gun rack in the back window. When hunting season opened many of us had a rifle or shotgun IN THE RACK, parked on the school parking lot and no one thought a thing about it.
At lunch there would be some teachers and students in the lot, checking out who was carrying what and giving the guns a good going over and adding some to our personal *wish list*.
My how the times have changed.
More from Andrea McClay:
She said his hands were in the air when he was shot eight times—twice in the hand, twice in the shoulder and four times in the leg.
She called Jimmell “a 13-year-old innocent child just having fun in the park.”
I know that’s how it worked at MY house when I was a kid, and when MY kids were young, we always gave them BB guns and told them, “Go hang out in a park at 11 P.M., it’s cool, no one will even notice.” Don’t ALL responsible parents do that?
And now we get to the heart of the matter:
In a formal statement, police said that officers responding to a call of “shots fired” approached the teen in the 4200 block of West Cortez Street to interview him because his description matched that of the gunman.
The boy, with pistol in hand, ran from the officers and refused several orders to drop the weapon, said Patrick Camden, a spokesman for the Chicago Fraternal Order of Police.
At least one of the officers opened fire, striking the teen, when he pointed the gun toward officers, according to police and Camden.
Jimmell Cannon had a BB PISTOL it appears.
This wasn’t your typical BB gun, it wasn’t a Red Ryder BB gun, it was some sort of BB pistol, and I have to say, many of these types of weapons look VERY realistic. If a police officer saw a suspect point a weapon like this at him, especially in the dark, well, poor little Jimmell is lucky that he’s not being referred to as poor DEAD Jimmell.
Something else that must be pointed out, the original story says poor little Jimmell is 13 years old, some 13 year old kids are as big as many adults, it may have been impossible for the responding officers to discern whether or not poor little Jimmell was of any certain age group.
For those *bleeding hearts* that DO read here, the ones that will start up with the *poor Jimmell* crap, and be sincere in their expressions, get this through your heads; a KID will kill you faster than an adult.
It’s because of the environment they live in, they shoot a lot of people in a video game, but it’s OK, they just hit the *re-set* button and get another life, or they see actors on TV or in the movies get gunned down and in another show, there they are again. THAT is their mindset.
I’m certain the *race baiters* mentioned above will be all over this incident, I’m even more certain that the Chicago police, if this has been reported as an accurate and true incident, were 100% justified in their actions.
I only have one complaint about this shooting; they fired 8 rounds and hit poor little Jimmell in the hands, shoulders and legs?
Sounds to me like there are some officers needing a bit of *range time*.
Perp shot and killed by Corpus Christi police yesterday. Suspect tried to hold up a Stripes store around 4:30 am. Used a BB pistol that looked like a Colt 1911. Mistake was made when he pointed at the LEOs. The guy was white and appeared to be emotionally disturbed.
Not any more…
What was this young man doing out on the streets at 11pm for Where is the parental supervision, why did the parents allow the youth out with a BB pistol in the first place.
I am sure Al Sharpton will soon tell us why.
As a matter of fact, I’ve owned guns like Jimmell had. They look very realistic and fire a .177 or .22 pellet, which is sometimes called a BB but is larger than a typical BB. The “shots fired” call is strange because the gun itself is compressed air, so it would not sound like a normal pistol. But it would certainly LOOK like one.
I did not see what “race” young Jimmell belongs to. But if he was not white, you are probably correct about local “community organizers” organizing race-baiting. He made two fundamental mistakes. 1. he ran. 2. he did not (apparently) drop the device (whatever it was) when ordered to do so.
Keep your powder dry
Texasperated — The article didn’t *SAY* Jimmell was Black, but being the presumptuous racist I am, the name said it for me…
But, here’s a picture from the Chicago Tribune, one of the crime scene that has poor little Jimmell’s pic embedded…
Could have been worse, as far as aim is concerned. The Kehoe brother in Ohio. Rounds going all different directions and nobody hits shit.

Fred: “Sounds to me like there are some officers needing a bit of *range time”
I would postulate that perhaps, they hit exactly what they were aiming at.
Yeah… Right…
That BB Pistol is called a SBC device. Suicide By Cop.
Using one in any form, and not following a police officer’s command, well, it will get you shot every time.
I expect “Jimmel” can run like the wind!
And for a Police Officer to run behind him firing and hitting him multiple times, is a great shoot!
Give the officer an award for this.
I expect the news went 100% thru the “project housings”, and the ghetto neighborhood!
Those type of toys or BB pistols are training wheels for the young blacks, and gives them the feel of a real one that their older brotha’s already have and use
I grade this a righteous shoot A+. I expect the Chicago PD to grade it the same.
When I was stationed in Michigan, I had a BB Pistol which shot both BB’s and Pellets. It had a rifled barrel and was classified by authorities as a handgun. What was told me, it didn’t matter if the propellent was gunpowder or Co2, it was a handgun because the barrel was riffled and the projectile was propelled by a gas. Both BB’s and pellets have a caliber classification.
My first thought was the same as Shady: What’s a kid this age doing out on the streets late at night with a handgun. Of course he was out playing in the city with his BB gun. I wonder how many windows in the area had BB holes in them.
I’m sure the kid is fatherless and has no real male person to bond with other than the drug dealers on the streets.
I too almost killed a kid that had a replica Colt 1911 he was waving around at a local kids hang-out. When I came up behind him he whirled around when I yelled at him…had he not dropped the pistol when he pissed himself I probably would have shot him. I had the shakes for hours after that thinking I could have killed a 15 yr. old boy for being stupid late that night. I was a really good shot back then, since I shot in NRA competition matches as well as on the department range.
I too think the officer(s) need a little more range time…preferably on an action range…not just a paper target.
A 13 year-old kid out in a park at 11 PM is up to something. You can bet your bottom dollar on that. Holding a pistol (BB or not) and not dropping it, running from the police and his family is very lucky that they didn’t have to claim him from the Morgue.
Cops were right in this. Good job.
