I guess everyone that knows me knows I am NOT a *bible thumper*, but for crying out loud, this is about CHRISTMAS!

What follows is the email I just sent to the City of Rowlett, TX, our Council, City Manager, some City Staff and quite a few Rowlett citizens.

“Has Rowlett now entered the realm of Political Correctness?

“Light up Main” Community Tree Lighting

What happened to CHRISTMAS Tree Lighting? Can’t it be a Community CHRISTMAS Tree Lighting? Shouldn’t it be?

I stood and spoke in Council when a group, Freedom From Religion, attempted to stop the Rowlett City Council from opening with a prayer, I stood FOR the City, and for those that aren’t afraid to say a prayer and acknowledge GOD and Christ.

Is this Community Tree Lighting being called that in an attempt to appease those that would take CHRIST out of CHRISTMAS? To NOT offend a few that would deprive the many?

I have to say, I am very disappointed in the City of Rowlett over this. Maybe it is just semantics, but good people have to take a stand on CHRISTMAS.”

I’m not at all bashful about making MY feelings known to our elected officials, I hope YOU will do likewise!

And remember, it’s Merry CHRISTMAS

It’s sad when our community leaders don’t have the kahonas to call one of our nations most sacred holidays by its name: Christmas.

    • TexasFred says:

Our Mayor is looking into it Bob, and said he is going to try and get it corrected on the City web site… It’s too late to correct the printed notices…

I don’t know WHO maintains that site but I know what it takes to make corrections ON a site, and I know how long it takes too…

      So far, it’s NOT changed…

The fact of the matter is this; no one at the City caught the *Community* thing… That’s pretty sad in MY opinion…

  2. GM Roper says:

“Merry, Happy, Joyous, Holidays.” Bah, Humbug! MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE

  3. GM Roper says:

Oh, and just so I don’t f**king offend anyone, Happy Eid, Happy Hanukkah! and Gladsome Winter Solstice as well.

    • TexasFred says:

GM, I don’t give a damn if you DO offend em… PCness has NEVER been my strong suit, and never will be…

Might be why I will NEVER be an elected official, I have a tendency to call BULLSHIT when I see it…

      • GM Roper says:

Fred, that’s why I phrased it like I did… I don’t give a rats ass if they are offended either. Nothing in the Constitution says you have a right not to be offended. I too hate PC, with a purple passion.

“Festivus” for the rest of us. Seinfeld.

  5. TexasFred says:

Is THIS what we have become??

    A Politically Correct Christmas Greeting

Best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non-addictive, gender neutral, winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most joyous traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, but with respect for the religious persuasion of others who choose to practice their own religion as well as those who choose not to practice a religion at all.

Additionally, a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling, and medically uncomplicated recognition of the generally accepted calendar year 2000, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions have helped make our society great, without regard to the race, creed, color, religious, or sexual preferences of the wishes.

(Disclaimer: This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for her/himself or others and no responsibility for any unintended emotional stress these greetings may bring to those not caught up in the holiday spirit.)

    • GM Roper says:

Sadly, that is exactly what the retailers have turned to so that they don’t offend anyone. I doubt however those offended fail to take Christmas Day off if that is their company policy to do so.

  6. TexasFred says:

THIS is what the politically correct among us would have us to be…

  7. Bluebonnet Sue says:

Sounds like a lot of very enjoyable festivities are planned. Good job with your letter to the “City Dignitaries”. It will be interesting to see what they decide. Thanks for posting the video. As is usual with Larry TCG, he made me LOL. He nailed it! :-)

So far, in my neck of the woods, it appears that “Christmas” is the choice.

  8. Katie says:

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!! In England they say: HAPPY CHRISTMAS!!!!!
    HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

May you receive the extreme blessings of:

    Health, Wealth, and Joy!!!

And I hope I offended someone.

  9. Cary says:

    Dear whoever-the-hell-is-in-charge:

Name TWO December holidays that utilize a decorated evergreen tree.

Right, there ain’t a second one.

Get yer brain housing groups out of your exhaust ports and call it what it is, you ignorant savages.

    • Katie says:

The other holiday is where Christianity got the tree from. It is the celebration of Midwinter also known as Yule.

Either holiday celebrate the joy of life.

      MERRY CHRISTMAS!

  10. TopGun says:

The last Mayor got his balls squeezed in a vice until he cried, and was run out of office. The present Mayor can just as well have his balls placed in the same vice until he says Merry Christmas from the City of Rowlett or he can be run out of office too.

  11. Always On Watch says:

The word “community” is now prevalent in social studies textbooks and even appears in some of the SAT essay prompts, as well as on college-admissions essays.

The new buzz word of the Left.

    I

    am

    sick

    of

    it!

And let us remember that the words “community” and “communism” have the same root!

  12. TexasFred says:

Here is the email I just sent to the Council, City Manager and several other Rowlett officials…

At the risk of being rude; is ANYTHING going to be done to address this or is the City just hoping I will go away quietly?? You SHOULD know better.

I KNOW what it takes to have a webmaster change one or two words on a post, I have those skills. All I am asking is for the City to change the site page wording, from Community to CHRISTMAS. Is that so hard?

Personally, I would expect those within City management and the Council that profess to be Christians would be as adamant about this as I am. So far, Michael Gallops and Todd Gottel are the only ones that have openly expressed an opinion on this matter.

My post, and comments from my readers can be seen here. And the comments are NOT kind…

  13. Bluto says:

I was shopping at Target for some *EVIL* Christmas gifts, and we wandered into the decorative “Holiday” area. There we found something new: The Holiday Tree Ornaments. I wanted to buy Christmas Tree Ornaments, but those Holiday Tree Ornaments looked pretty cool.

Then it made me wonder, what is a Holiday Tree? Does anybody know of another type of tree that is decorated with ornaments during the winter season? Is there another religion or group of winter celebrants that also have a tree? Would their tree be confused with a Christmas Tree?

Seriously though, is there another Tree that I don’t know about?

  14. Bloviating Zeppelin says:

I would expect this kind of thing in MY state, Fornicalia.

I would NOT expect this kind of thing in Texas.

  15. Bluto says:

I still want to know about that other tree out there!!! I feel like I’m missing out on all the Holiday Fun.

I can’t wait for Valentine’s Day. I’m going to wish everybody a “Happy Holiday Day”.
