Dems scramble as Sen. Nelson announces retirement

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Democrats on Tuesday lamented Sen. Ben Nelson’s decision to retire rather than seek a third term in Nebraska, fearing the move sets up Republicans for an easy and crucial victory in their effort to reclaim control of the chamber next year.

Nelson, the lone Democrat in Nebraska’s five-member congressional delegation, faced a tough re-election campaign against a large group of Republican challengers who have spent the past several months attacking his support for President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul and federal stimulus legislation.

Republicans must net four seats to take back the Senate in 2012, and Nebraska looks to be an easy pickup. There are no Democrats in line to take Nelson’s place in the increasingly conservative state. He joins several other Democrats to retire from the Senate, including Virginia’s Jim Webb and North Dakota’s Kent Conrad.

After months of speculation that he would leave office, the 70-year-old conservative Democrat told supporters in an emailed statement he felt it was time he “step away from elective office, spend more time with my family, and look for new ways to serve our state and nation.”

“Therefore, I am announcing today that I will not seek re-election,” he said. “Simply put: It is time to move on.”

I have said this before and I will say it again and again and again; I am firmly convinced that it doesn’t really matter who gets elected POTUS at this stage of the game, Obama, Newt and Romney, our real battle is the retention of the House and winning back control of the Senate, and assuring that they BOTH are controlled by CONSERVATIVES, not RINOs.

I’m not trying to turn this into a Vote for Perry post, but you’ve got to admit, Congress IS the problem. Those folks have stabbed us ALL in the back and have gotten rich, RICH by God, from PUBLIC service. That is NOT what the Founding Fathers wanted, I am certain.

It’s time to set this nation back on a path to greatness, and I see greatness in NONE of the people currently seeking, or currently HOLDING the office of President.

It starts in the Hallowed Halls of Congress my friends, if Conservatives control both houses then WE control the nation, but we MUST elect REAL Conservatives! NO MORE RINOs!

There IS a solution: TERM LIMITS!

Term limits work for the Executive Branch, term limits need to work for ALL branches of government, all the way down to the lowest elected level of local governments.

It can’t be said too many times: NO MORE RINOs!

We either SAVE this nation through a Conservative effort in the House and Senate or we watch as America dies at the hands of a Socialist regime!

Congress is actually more important than the presidency. I fear we’ll get complacent as we were last time we held all three.

If anyone thinks that the magic number to gain “Control” of the Senate is 4, they are mistaken. We need 6o to control the Rino we are about to elect to the Presidency. I am with you. We will run the government from the Congress.

Right now, Obama and Democrats in Congress are doing all they can to ensure we have a “do nothing” congress in hopes of winning back the House. The Senate has been keeping low keyed so all the attention is focused on the House. Although the House is one half of the legislative branch, you wouldn’t know it by listening to the MSM. Democrats are willing to risk a few seats in the Senate as long as they either maintain control or can mount a filibuster to thwart Republicans. Getting back the House is of upmost importance to them and they’re allow the US to sink into the sewer to do it.

We need more Conservatives in the House and Conservatives to take control of the Senate. POTUS will be important when it comes to appointing Supreme Court and Federal Judges. If Obama were to get reelected and we didn’t have Conservatives in control of the Senate, it will be bad for the nation when he makes his next appointment to SCOTUS.
