Justice Dept opposes Texas voter ID law

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Justice Department’s civil rights division on Monday objected to a new photo ID requirement for voters in Texas because many Hispanic voters lack state-issued identification.

Texas follows South Carolina as the second state in recent months to become embroiled in a court battle with the Justice Department over new photo ID requirements for voters.

Justice Dept opposes Texas voter ID law

This makes me madder than an old wet hen. Texas does everything it can to make it easy for ANYONE that is legally allowed to vote to do so.

So, what’s the deal with the Justice Department of Barack Hussein Obama and his stooge Eric Holder? If you have what it takes to become a registered voter, why then don’t you have some form of PROOF to show at the polls to prove it’s really you?

I am an advocate FOR voter ID and it being presented at the polls. I have my ID and when I go to vote I have it and my voter registration card in hand. It was no inconvenience to obtain either the ID card OR the voters registration card. I honestly do NOT see how requiring a pictured ID could be in any way interpreted as an effort at disenfranchising people who tend to vote Democratic.

Again, honestly, I don’t want to see anyone disenfranchised, I only want to see the voter fraud that the Democrats are so well known for to be STOPPED, think VOTE THE DEAD.

Who can vote in Texas?

To be eligible to register to vote in Texas, a person must be:

• A United States citizen;
• A resident of the Texas county in which application for registration is made;
• At least 18 years old on Election Day;
• Not finally convicted of a felony, or, if so convicted must have (1) fully discharged the sentence, including any term of incarceration, parole, or supervision, or completed a period of probation ordered by any court; or (2) been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disability to vote; and
• Not determined by a final judgment of a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be (1) totally mentally incapacitated; or (2) partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote.

What if I don’t have a driver’s license, personal identification number, OR a social security number? Can I still register to vote in Texas?

A voter who has not been issued a driver’s license or social security number may register to vote, but such voter must submit proof of identification when presenting himself/herself for voting or with his/her mail-in ballots, if voting by mail. These voters’ names are flagged on the official voter registration list with the annotation of “ID.” The “ID” notation instructs the poll worker to request a proper form of identification from these voters when they present themselves for voting. Acceptable identification includes:

• A driver’s license or personal identification card issued to the person by the Department of Public Safety or a similar document issued to the person by an agency of another state, regardless of whether the license or card has expired;
• A form of identification containing the person’s photograph that establishes the person’s identity;

• A birth certificate or other document confirming birth that is admissible in a court of law and establishes the person’s identity;
• United States citizenship papers issued to the person;
• A United States passport issued to the person;
• Official mail addressed to the person by name from a governmental entity;
• A copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, or other government document that shows the name and address of the voter; or
• Any other form of identification prescribed by the Secretary of State. Texas Voting

A while back this issue came up about the Feds wanting to knock down a voter ID law in another state and I was accused of being a NAZI.

I had a Libertarian commenter that I tolerated, he made an occasional donation to the blog and he wasn’t a rabid Ron Paul ‘Paultard’, he was fairly reasoned in most discussions until the time that discussion got around to voter ID.

He was a firm believer in the idea that *if you live here you can vote here* and obviously, I am not, and the laws are written as such. This person called a voters ID a form of a Poll Tax and accused anyone that supported a voter ID and/or law of being NAZIs.

His quote was, “So, you’re going to be a NAZI and demand to see their papers?”

Needless to say, it matters NOT that he made an occasional donation, he was removed and banned, and will stay that way. Anyone that can’t present an argument without that kind of childish name calling needs to be banned. It wasn’t his ideas regarding a voter ID card, it was his accusations of ME being a NAZI because I advocate that ID.

In this day and time it is nearly impossible to do ANY kind of business if you don’t have a pictured ID of some sort. The idea of a pictured ID being used to disenfranchise a voter of ANY kind is merely the Obama regime showing the desperation they feel as they see their numbers falling more and more every day.

One other thing, and I know that the Bill of Rights carries little, if any weight in the Obama regime, but these crooks in the White House and Justice need to know, the Bill of Rights, the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence are sacrosanct to far more than half of this nation.

Holder and Obama need to read and remember this:

Amendment X

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.

State Sovereignty is THAT important!

    Voting is a privilege. It belongs to the citizens of this country, not the illegal occupiers that this administration must heavily rely on in order to win these elections. I’m Hispanic, and I resent my vote lessened by those that are not willing to get a picture ID. It is utter nonsense.

    All over America, lawyers in black robes and the Justice Department are thwarting the Will of the People though their elected representatives by striking down these voter ID laws. This is getting out of hand.

    The right to vote was bought and paid for by the blood of servicemen on battlefields throughout the world and United States. Those men paid the ultimate price so their fellow Americans could enjoy the rights granted to them by the Constitution of the United States. For an American Citizen to say that it’s too much trouble or expensive to get a government issued ID is to spit upon the blood of those men who sacrificed so those people could vote.

    Did you know that to return merchandise without a receipt at many of the larger retail stores, you have to produce a government issued ID card? Failure to produce the ID card will get your return denied. The barcode on the ID is scanned and entered into a database so failure to have the ID automatically denies the return by the system. How much more important is voting than returning five dollars worth of merchandise?

    Funny how you need a photo ID to:

    Drive a car
    Rent a DVD
    Rent an apartment/house
    Apply for Food Stamps, Section 8 Housing, WIC, Welfare, Social Security
    Open up a bank account
    Cash a check
    Buy liquor, wine, and beer
    Buy cigarettes
    Apply for a job

    and 100s more.

    So why not vote too?

    During my tenure as a Chief of Police in South Texas, my Officers constantly arrested illegals aliens for other State Violations and at which time we released the aliens to the Border Patrol. During the subsequent booking procedure of the prisoner, officers located and seized bogus drivers licenses, birth certificates and VOTER registration cards.

    Before releasing the illegal aliens to the Border Patrol it was learned by interviewing the illegal aliens, that the illegals had voted multiple times in different elections.

    This is what Obama wants, and Holder will do nothing to stop it. This has been going on for years, but nobody seems to care who votes in our elections.

    I’m a native South Carolinian living in North Carolina for 50 plus years. As you know, Holder has blocked SC’s voter ID law as well. Here in North Carolina, the democrat Gov. vetoed the voter ID law passed by the republican legislature. Soon the legislature will vote to override the gov’s veto — and I expect Holder will block it, too.

    Seems to me, Obama and Holder are totally ignoring the tenth amendment. How long are we gonna stand for this???

    Pennsylvania is voting on a Photo ID this week, and it looks like it will pass. I wonder if Holder will take it on. I bet he will. We are home to the infamous Black Panther intimadation case which included the video. Holder once he got into office, dropped it, even after it was all agreed to. Holder must be impeached.

    I have heard the argument used that if you shall not require an ID in order to vote due to disenfranchisement, then shouldn’t the same be said for buying a gun? After all, people have the right to vote and also have the right to their 2nd amendment right to own a firearm. Try buying a gun without proper ID. It will not happen. Couldn’t we then apply the left’s same argument that requiring an ID to buy a gun is disenfrachisment to those that want to excercise their 2nd amendment. That it is an unecessary burden or a “gun tax’ as the prior jerk used for his argument. Requiring an ID is keeping the pore and starvin from owning a gun…keeping them from exercising their god given right to own one.

    So, whatever argument is used for not requiring and ID to vote, can be turned around on the left. They will say that they need to know who is getting a gun. Well, same goes for who is selecting our politicians.

    When a person votes, they are choosing the people who steer this country in one of many many directions. With some elections won or lost by a matter of only a few votes, we need to make sure that only legitimate people are voting. Just like they want to know who is legitimating buying guns…so do we for voters.

    We all know what they are doing…it’s as blatantly obvious…they want to stuff ballots. That is the only reason to nix a voter ID. This isn’t the 1800′s where the average person couldn’t read and getting an ID was impossible. They require ID for food stamps and all kinds of govt largesse…and nobody seems to have a problem meeting this requirement.

    I dare anyone to show me a single legitimate person that would love to cast their vote, but cannot becasue they can not somehow get an ID. That person does not exist…only in the mind of lefty’s idiotic brains when concocting a stupid argument.

    I have an idea, if we find a vote had been cast by someone who is dead or does not exist, that person that was voted for loses 10 votes. After all, we know that we can only catch one in every ten people that are doing this. I would go along with that. How do I get my figure of 1 to 10…real easy…I made the statistic up…just like the left did on coming up with the figure of people who would be disenfranchised.

    It is truly sad that our voting system is no better than many third world countries. We laugh at the stupid silly elections and how useless they are and strictly for show. Turns out…we aren’t much better.

    • NativeSon says:

      Actually the FBI statistics are that crooks are caught an average of 1 out of every 11 times they commit a crime. THAT’S HOLDER’S own stats-I think your 1 of 10 is more than reasonable (for you “lefties” feel free to use the term “fair’) I only use “Fair” when referring to that carnival which comes to Dallas every September…

  8. sdkar says:

    Makes perfect sense as well…after all, the person they will be voting for can’t prove who he is or where he was born…why should the people who vote for him have to prove who they are either?

    This country is going to hell in a handbasket and when it does, no one will be able to identify who did it.
