Gunbattle in Beirut amid fears of Syria spillover

BEIRUT (AP) - Gunmen fired rocket-propelled grenades and machine guns early Monday in intense street battles in the Lebanese capital, wounding six people as fears mounted that the conflict in neighboring Syria was bleeding across the border.

The fighting appeared to be among the worst clashes in Beirut since 2008. The clashes erupted hours after an anti-Syrian cleric and his bodyguard were shot dead in northern Lebanon.

Lebanon and Syria share a complex web of political and sectarian ties and rivalries, which are easily enflamed. Last week, clashes sparked by the Syrian crisis killed at least eight people and wounded dozens in the northern city of Tripoli.

The revolt in Syria began 15 months ago, and there are fears the unrest will lead to a regional conflagration that could draw in neighboring countries. The U.N. estimates the conflict has killed more than 9,000 people since March 2011.

Lebanon and Syria. Is this what America needs to worry about? Are those nations a direct threat to the USA? Well, apparently Joe Lieberman and John McCain seem to think so.

With the evident failure of an international peace plan designed to end the violence in Syria, recent actions by the Obama administration indicate the White House could be inching toward a military response, a Senate Armed Services Committee member said.

“I think they’re moving toward some more real action,” Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Ct.) told The Hill regarding the White House’s evolving position on Syria.

Lieberman, along with Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), has been at the forefront of the congressional effort to provide military support to Syria. SOURCE

I only have one thing to say to McCain and Lieberman:

Here’s the way I look at it; if they are busy killing each other, they won’t be killing US here at home, and there is not so much as ONE legitimate excuse for sending American troops into harms way to save so much as one person in Syria and Lebanon.

We have wasted, to date, 12,035 young American lives, dead and wounded, and untold BILLIONS of tax dollars in a place called Afghanistan, and there is no true end in sight!

We wasted 36,395 young American lives, dead and wounded, and untold BILLIONS of tax dollars in a place called Iraq, and what, exactly, did we accomplish? The above numbers can be verified HERE.

What have we gained for those efforts?

Do the Muslims hate us any less? Of course not. Do the Muslims wish to live in peace with us here in America and wish to embrace the American lifestyle? We ALL know the answer to that one, a resounding NO, they do not.

Will Muslims EVER want to be our buddies? No, and again, that is a resounding NO.

Liberals claimed that Iraq was a *war for oil*. Of course that ridiculous statement has been proven wrong. *No BLOOD for OIL*, that was the battle cry of the left, and you know, they were very correct in that one, we didn’t get one damned drop of oil from Iraq.

We had a legitimate reason to go into Afghanistan, Osama bin Laden, and we needed to have some resolution, and satisfaction, for the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

We had NO legitimate reason to invade Iraq, we never did, and we have NO legitimate reason to stick our noses into the fights that are taking place in Syria and Lebanon!

No more American troops need to DIE in Muslim lands.

Our government won’t let our troops fight a WAR, they force them to fight under strict *rules of engagement*, rules that get our troops KILLED. Until such time that the powers that be decide to let our fighting men actually FIGHT and win, get them OUT of these places and keep them safe.

But if this nation is presented with a legitimate threat to us, the American people, loose the dogs of war, and by God, NO MERCY.

Barring that, We, THE PEOPLE, need to elect leaders that have the BALLS to fight for America, not leaders that are conflicted as to where, and to whom their loyalties lie!

Hard to tell how the raghead POTUS we have will go on this. In a battle of ragheads vs ragheads, let them kill each other off. That being said there are a lot of Christians and other non Muslims that need a safe haven in the middle east. Would be for running all the Muslims out of Lebanon and relocating the oppressed Christians et al there. Good excuse to wipe out Hezbollah and make Lebanon a non muslim state. Little revenge for a few of our Marines also.

The only thing we should be doing militarily in the Middle East is defending Israel. The best was to do that is to just back away and let them do what they do best…Kick Ass. We do need to supply them with some hardware and stuff though. The only other thing I can think of would be to rain iron upon Iran from 45,000 feet. Not a foot closer and not one boot on the ground.
