James Holmes referred to University of Colorado threat-assessment team, sources say
The University of Colorado Denver psychiatrist seeing accused murderer James Eagan Holmes was so alarmed by his behavior that she notified the campus-wide threat-assessment team that she helped create years before, a source told The Denver Post.
Dr. Lynne Fenton, identified in a court document as Holmes’ psychiatrist, in June took her concerns to members of the campus’ Behavioral Evaluation and Threat Assessment team, but no further action was taken, a source with knowledge of the process told The Post.
University officials could not confirm or deny the report, citing the federal health privacy law and a judge’s gag order in the case against Holmes.
The information was first reported late Wednesday by Denver’s KMGH-TV, 7News. The station, citing unnamed sources, reported that CU-Denver officials did not contact Aurora police before the July 20 massacre at the Century Aurora 16 theater that killed 12 people and injured 58 others. There was no mention in the report of whether CU-Denver police were notified.

If you have read this blog for ANY length of time you already know; I am Pro-Guns and Second Amendment. I am a gun owner and I support the right to keep and bear arms, in plain sight and concealed.
You also know that I have stated, on numerous occasions, “we don’t need MORE gun laws; we simply need to enforce the ones already in place” but it seems like every time some crazy person uses a gun to commit a heinous crime such as that committed in Aurora, CO. you hear the immediate cries from all manner of anti-gun Libbers, tree huggers, Save the Whale people, PETA, God only knows who else, and they are ALL crying about how the USA must enact even more stringent gun laws and ban all guns, because if ALL guns were banned, this could never happen.
In their perfect little world filled with kum-ba-ya and leftist delusion? Perhaps … in the real world, not so much!
This James Holmes character is a CRAZY person! I don’t say that to defend nor justify his actions, it is merely a statement of fact; no SANE person would commit such an act.
But the anti-gun cabal believes that because of Holmes heinous acts all gun owners need to be subjected to even MORE gun laws, more restriction, even more infringement on our right that, according to the Bill of Rights, *shall not be infringed*.

I say this with total confidence; had that threat-assessment team done the job that they were supposed to do, it is quite likely that the theater shooting in Aurora would NOT have happened.
More GUN laws you say? Well, there are already laws on the books that prohibit persons that are judged to be mentally incompetent from buying or possessing firearms.
Had this threat-assessment team done its job James Holmes would have been flagged by the local police and would have been subjected to questioning, and based on the findings of that questioning, coupled with the assessment of his mental condition by Dr. Fenton, in all probability Holmes would have, at the very least, been disarmed because of his mental state and the clear and present danger it presented.
Remember this: 150 MILLION legal, SANE gun owners will murder no one today!
The LAWS to protect us from people like James Holmes are already in place, the SYSTEM that puts those laws into motion FAILED! Miserably…
Fact: James Holmes quit the University. The Psych Department could no longer treat him. Those services are for students, facility, other employees and their families.
Fact: James Holmes bought his guns LEGALLY! Just like every other citizen has the right to.
Fact: James Holmes for what ever reason decided to kill people. Nothing any one could do would change his mind. He booby-trapped his apartment to kill the first people in it. He is an angry young man with a brilliant mind. And is responsible for his actions.
Has anyone even thought that his going to a Psychiatrist could be a set-up for an insanity defense? That he isn’t “insane” but just a little bastard. A smart person would set up an insanity defense before committing such a crime.
Fact: Chicago has the strongest gun control laws. Chicago has a higher murder rate than Mexico.
Fact: GUN CONTROL DOESN’T WORK!!!! Citizens become defenseless and criminals get anything they want.
Fact: Every place that has conceal carry has a lower murder rate than those who restrict guns.

Why is it morally superior for a woman to be found raped and strangled with her own pantyhose than a woman explaining to the police how her attacker got that fatal gun shot?
So, you’re saying that even though he quit school the school had NO responsibility to report this guy as a threat to the public in general? Am I reading that correctly??
Legally that is correct. It is crazy, but that is the legalities. And until changed it will remain.
Then again if they had contacted the authorities they would have 51/50ed him and probably released him after the 48 to 72 hours (depending on the state).
I think he has been setting up this insanity defense and civil (non-school) doctors would only be backing up his story.
He isn’t insane. He is cunning and evil, but not insane.
Sounds like the same thing with that left wing loon who shot that congresswoman and those others. People knew he was a threat, he was reported, and nothing was done.
His parents have political connections and used them to keep their son out of the hospital and prison many times. Not the same. The school could have and should have notified the proper authorities. But they are not legally required to do so. If they had and nothing happened and the authorities discovered nothing then the school could be open to a very large lawsuit. Now they are free from any lawsuits.

While you can tell an assessment team, the doctor cannot reveal intimate information without the patient’s or the court’s authorization.
That is the sticky wicket in this.

Doctor/patient bullshit be DAMNED, if they suspected that he was a danger to the public there was an obligation to let the authorities know…
The system failed PURPOSELY because PC individuals FEARED being “judgmental,” just as the US military FEARED reacting to Nidal Hassan.
In both instances, both systems are RESPONSIBLE for DEATHS because they FEAR. Western systems would rather sacrifice YOU than be accountable and logical in the face of insanity and terror.
