Texas secession petition gets enough signatures for White House response

This piece is from The Dallas Morning News. SOURCE

Original item at 8:45 a.m.: It doesn’t take a presidential election to trigger talk of Texas seceding from the Union — ain’t that right, Rick Perry? But this morning, Gawker directs our attention to a petition on the White House’s own website begging President Obama for permission to adios from the U.S.A. And Texas isn’t alone: Petitions in 18 other states want the okee-doke to scram.

The Lone Star offering (the handiwork of an Arlington resident named “Micah H”) reads as follows:

We petition the Obama Administration to peacefully grant the State of Texas to withdraw from the United States of America and create its own NEW government.

The US continues to suffer economic difficulties stemming from the federal government’s neglect to reform domestic and foreign spending. The citizens of the US suffer from blatant abuses of their rights such as the NDAA, the TSA, etc. Given that the state of Texas maintains a balanced budget and is the 15th largest economy in the world, it is practically feasible for Texas to withdraw from the union, and to do so would protect it’s citizens’ standard of living and re-secure their rights and liberties in accordance with the original ideas and beliefs of our founding fathers which are no longer being reflected by the federal government.

The petition’s been up since Friday, and when I first clicked on it at 8:30 this morning there were 16,848 signatures; eight minutes later that number had jumped by 100. (Update at 9:17 a.m.: Now, more than 17,300 have signed the petition.) Never mind that Texas can’t secede from the Union: As Gawker points out, should the petition reach the 25,000-signature threshold, well, “White House staff will review it, ensure it’s sent to the appropriate policy experts, and issue an official response.” Looking forward to that update.

Sounds to me like the author at DMN might be out there to the LEFT a ways, just MY opinion, he’s quoting Gawker and using them as a source and citation, that is what I like to call *a dead giveaway*.

So, an assumed to be left-handed writer poo-poos on the idea of Texas secession based on the information he garnered from his buddies at Gawker, but what have we got to worry about? We have Rick Perry as OUR Governor and Rick Perry said: Texas can leave the union if it wants to.

There you go, Gov. Rick Perry said it and we can count on Rick Perry to stand by his words, right?

Well, maybe not!

Update at 4:31 p.m.: Moments ago, an email arrived from Catherine Frazier, press secretary for Governor Rick Perry, who has this to say about the petition on the White House website:

Gov. Perry believes in the greatness of our Union and nothing should be done to change it. But he also shares the frustrations many Americans have with our federal government. Now more than ever our country needs strong leadership from states like Texas, that are making tough decisions to live within their means, keep taxes low and provide opportunities to job creators so their citizens can provide for their families and prosper. We cannot allow Washington’s tax and spend, one-size-fits-all mindset to jeopardize our children’s future, undermine our personal liberties and drive our nation down a dangerous path to greater dependence of government.

Rick Perry is not currently running for office so I guess he’s going to turn his back on his original words, thus proving to Texans, and the world, that he is a GUTLESS son of a bitch
that only stirred up the secession pot when it was convenient to HIS cause and his political race. In other words, Rick Perry is a PANDERING LIAR!

I supported Rick Perry in his run for the nomination, I was proud to do so, you see, I was under the impression that Perry was a Texan, Texan to the core.

Now, it appears that he WILL acquiesce to the UNION and it’s preservation, think Obama, in his thoughts and words.

The only thing worse than a pandering politician is a pandering, LYING politician!

As much as I would love to see Texas return to the status of a Republic, secession is NOT going to happen, not when our Governor and State officials stand against it and so many resident OF Texas, voters, would never vote a majority to ensure such.

If you ever do secede, a whole bunch of us are moving down there. We’re coming with skills and guns.

  2. FoxieNews says:

I was just reading up on secession…………….. I did NOT like what I just read: “Bottom line: There is no law forbidding or allowing secession. If Texas or any other state decides to secede, the resulting peaceful separation or war will depend not on law, but on the will of whomever happens to be Commander-in-Chief at the time.” UGH UGH UGH lovely!!! 3. Katie says:

The number of states that wish to secede is now at 31. Can we do it? Do we have the military strength? I think we can and many in the military will join us. The States that wish to secede are God-fearing ones. States filled with the bounty that God gives this nation. States that have the majority of the oil, the gas, the natural resources.

Let us do it and show Obama that without these states he has nothing but welfare queens and liberal idiots.

    Of course he will.

    He’s a politician.

    He’s NOT a citizen.

    A prole.

    A groundling.

    A serf.
