Mass shootings grab headlines, but others go under radar

The numbers jump off the page: Nine dead on an Oregon college campus, 12 in a theater in Aurora, Colorado. Thirteen soldiers and civilians at Fort Hood, Texas; 32 people at Virginia Tech; 13 at a community center in Binghamton, New York. Twenty-six dead — 20 of them young children — at an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut.

Mass killings like the one Thursday at the Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon, scraped nerves raw, commanded headlines and prompted an anguished President Barack Obama to take to the airwaves — again — to condemn gun violence.

Here’s another number: 8,124. That’s the total of homicides by gun in 2014, according to the FBI’s Crime in the United States report. That works out to an average of 156 a week, more than 22 people shot to death every day across the country. SOURCE

I’m not at all certain regarding where exactly AP gathered their information, but this is the number that THEY quote; “Here’s another number: 8,124. That’s the total of homicides by gun in 2014, according to the FBI’s Crime in the United States report.”

But according to this story the gun is about to become America’s Top Killing Machine.

Those are some seriously drastic differences in numbers, and then I found this;

There were 30,057 fatal motor vehicle crashes in the United States in 2013 in which 32,719 deaths occurred. This resulted in national motor vehicle crash death rates of 10.3 deaths per 100,000 people and 1.11 deaths per 100 million vehicle miles traveled. The fatality rate per 100,000 people ranged from a low of 3.1 in the District of Columbia to a high of 22.6 in Montana. The death rates per 100 million vehicle miles traveled ranged from 0.56 in the District of Columbia to 1.96 in Montana. SOURCE

There is no doubt in my mind that guns are used to kill people, it’s a fact of life, but it is a very rare occurrence when an upstanding, law-abiding citizen takes up the gun for nefarious purposes, but every time some burglar, armed robber or nut job psycho takes up a gun all we hear are cries of *BAN THE GUN* as we are told by Obama and his minions that guns are bad.

Why doesn’t the Left ever scream BAN THE CAR? Just wondering, would that be *selective outrage*?

I also wonder just how skewed the numbers would be regarding vehicular deaths if the POTUS and his band of ne’er do wells got involved? Just guessing mind you, but I would take bets that the Obama numbers on that would match the agenda and the numbers they need to take in weak-minded Democrats and a few other brainless buffoons.

Constant confusion, shuck and jive, smoke and mirrors, any number of cheap magic tricks used in order to make Obama not appear such a fool.

The CDC is saying 32,719 but the FBI is saying 8,124. That’s quite a spread. Since homicides most likely aren’t taking into account accidental gun deaths, 24,055 is quite a difference for accidental gun discharges causing death. Something just doesn’t seem right but then, this is the same CDC that said Ebola would not come to America.

Bob, I think you’re mixing your apples and oranges there a bit. The 32,719 deaths are vehicle related, the 8,124 are firearm related.

I am sure many many more people died by hammer..

  3. One Citizen Speaking says:

There are over 70,000 disease categories in the ICD-10 medical classification system, but the government is reluctant to break-out crime statistics involving guns with any real degree of specificity.

There are accidents, suicides, gang-shootings, police-involved shootings; but many statistics that are created from official records do not show that gun charges were plea bargained away to secure a conviction or that officials deliberately mischaracterized the crime category in order to improve their statistics.

It is time to put up the honest numbers.

Remember, if it bleeds it leads. Firearm deaths are the cause du jour; remember when Nader was going after vehicles? Not a lot of drama and suspense around the car deaths, since they are so prevalent, and, I’m sorry to say, almost common place; firearm deaths are headliners WHERE THERE AREN’T A LOT OF FIREARM DEATHS NORMALLY. This also explains why no one is upset at the Chicago and DC and LA weekend numbers, which make most of the “mass” shootings of late look pretty tame.

Fred, I still haven’t been able to copy and paste a link to a video. Bill Whittle has a video available from his Firewall series and I found it on Truth Revolt. In it he gives some real numbers on b os’ false numbers regarding the only advanced country experiencing mass murders by gun. It’s worth watching. Again I say that the media should make the effort to publish all the instances where a firearm is used to prevent a crime or deliver the much desired “taxpayer relief shot”.

In the coming civil war firearms not vehicles will be the weapons of choice to beat back the US armed forces, police and drug cartel government sanctioned posse’s. In order for the american communists/marxists/socialists/progressives to be successful in their quest for a complete takeover the american people must be disarmed.
P.S. Friends and acquaintances (one of whom works in US Marine intelligence) who truly KNOW maintain the US military will side with the people. I don’t believe that for a second.
