12 dead, 31 hurt in Fort Hood shooting

A U.S. soldier opened fire Thursday at Fort Hood, Texas, killing at least 11 people and wounding 31 others, military officials said. The gunman was shot to death, and two other soldiers were in custody.

NBC News’ Pete Williams reported that U.S. officials identified the gunman as Maj. Malik Nadal Hasan, an Army psychiatrist who had been promoted to major in May. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson, R-Texas, said military officials told her that the gunman, who was 39 or 40, was about to be deployed to Iraq and was “upset about it.”

Lt. Gen. Robert W. Cone, commanding general of the Army’s III Corps, who briefed President Barack Obama on the shootings, said the gunman used two handguns.

12 dead, 31 hurt in Fort Hood shooting

This is one of the most unbelievable things I have ever seen. I have been almost speechless. It has taken me all afternoon to regain my composure enough to be able to make a post that was a bit more than the rantings of a babbling mad man!

Here’s what we know; Army officials identified the gunman as Maj. Malik Nadal Hasan, an Army psychiatrist who had been promoted to major in May. According to some stories he specialized in combat related stress disorders, and that alone, causes me even greater distress. He’s supposed to be HELPING returning troops cope with their PTSD and combat related stress issues, not going bonkers and killing them.

I haven’t found anything regarding Maj. Malik Nadal Hasan having been previously deployed, he may not have been, I just don’t know and will NOT speculate. I will say this, Hasan had some very loose wiring in HIS head. His actions of today stand in testament.

It was unclear why the two other soldiers were taken into custody. A senior administration official told NBC News that the shootings could have been a criminal matter rather than a terrorism-related attack and that there was no intelligence to suggest a plot against Fort Hood.

OK, I know I am profiling, some will call me a racist or a bigot for saying this, but look at the guys name, Malik Nadal Hasan. He either is Islamic by birth or is a convert to the Muslim religion. I have heard, but have not conformed, that he is a convert. That is something else that gives me great concern. Given the rancor Islam has for *The Great Satan*, why would an Islamic convert want to serve this nation?

I also pose this possibility. What if there was a lot more to the Major’s shooting rampage than a few loose wires in his head? Suppose there was a hidden agenda afoot and Hasan was a tool of the Jihadists? According to Islam, it is their duty to convert the infidel or kill him.

Noting the Arabic nature of the gunman’s name, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, a Washington interest group, condemned “this cowardly attack in the strongest terms possible and ask that the perpetrators be punished to the full extent of the law.”

”No political or religious ideology could ever justify or excuse such wanton and indiscriminate violence,” the council said in a statement. “The attack was particularly heinous in that it targeted the all-volunteer army that protects our nation. American Muslims stand with our fellow citizens in offering both prayers for the victims and sincere condolences to the families of those killed or injured.”

Of course CAIR has condemned the murders. They have to. They can’t risk an angry American populace declaring WAR on every Muslim walking down the street. And I have to say, that WAR is not out of the equation from some of the things I have heard ‘through the grapevine’.

We have to hope that cooler heads prevail, but suppose they don’t? What then? Suppose there was some action taken in retribution by the American people? Has radical Islam not already declared WAR on us? Has radical Islam not already made their intentions VERY clear?

I’m not advocating anything, but the questions have got to be asked. At what point in time do Americans stand and defend this nation in the way it is intended by the 2nd amendment of the U.S. constitution?

I have a lot on my mind with this one. The deaths and wounding of these people, on an American Army base, within the continental United States. Something that has never happened before. And I can’t fathom an American military officer committing an act of this nature. Again, I am profiling, basing my words on the name of the shooter, but I suppose his what I perceive to be an allegiance to Islam, must trump all.

America is shocked and saddened by the events of today. An Army officer did the unthinkable, the unimaginable, he went against the oath he swore to this nation and to his brothers in arms. I think the coming days will be sad but interesting as this story fully develops.

I offer my most sincere condolences to the families of the dead and to the wounded, as well as to their families. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

  1. Something just does not smell right about this, and it ain’t Ranger stew…

This guys was an Officer, a Doc, and things just don’t add up. Muslim..? Maybe..? Lets wait and see what CID and the FBI say about it after a proper investigation has been conducted. To make it to O4 you absolutely have to qualify for at minimum a basic TS clearance no matter your MOS. Something don’t sound right.

  2. A retired Col. who worked with him was interviewed on Fox. He had made enough statements publicly that let people know he sympathized with Islam, that one has to wonder why he wasn’t discharged instead of being sent to Ft. Hood. The man being interviewed said he would be interested to know “why Walter Reed transferred him after giving him a bad evaluation”???

He was a Muslim American by birth. This is from a interview with his cousin. There were ample signs, altercations with others over his pro-Islam talk… someone should have locked him up and processed him OUT. We have enough fine “real American” troops, we don’t need someone who is not there to stand up for and defend America. The more I find out, the more I want to see all Muslims deported.

  3. Katie says:

The perp was spouting Jihad talk at Walter Reed and was suppose to be investigated there. Why was he given a clearance while the suspicion of his actions were being investigated.

  4. This just in… the Shooter isn’t dead!!! Good, now he can be court martialed. That should make the investigation more complete anyway.

  5. james says:

I wonder if the don’t ask don’t tell thing happens with towel heads too?

This should have never been allowed to get this far. He should have been discharged as soon as any of the signs became known.

Thoughts and prayers out to all effected indeed!

Being a doctor, depending on his level of experience, he probably came into the army as a Captain. About 90 days in Officer Training School and you’ve got a new officer. Medical officers are different and many don’t like to adhere to the protocols other officers do. There’s a lot more to the movie and series MASH than just being funny.

What CAIR says is irreverent. This guy will be considered a hero to Islam in the Middle East. The news is reporting he’s still alive. It’s too bad he wasn’t sent to his virgins.

Something like this did happen before at Fairchild, AFB back in 1994. This was also done by a military man who was shot and killed by a military cop who was on bicycle patrol.

  7. minuteman26 says:

This has been a tragic and sad day both for the US Army and the State of Texas. Prayers go out to the wounded for a speedy recovery and the families of all involved. The US Armed Services should take this incident to heart, ditch the political correctness that endures and discharge all muslims from their respective branch of service. Islam has declared war on this country and want to bring the US to its knees while killing as many Americans as possible. Why let them have a free shot at our troops from within. Until the Koran is changed and promotes peace muslims should not be allowed to join the military or any other form of govt service. As for the shooter, when he is executed; bury him with a pig.

  8. Nancy 2 says:

Fred like you I am sick at heart about the murders and injuries at Ft Hood this afternoon. However I am not at all surprised or shocked considering who and what the perpetrator is. As for the CAIR’s I am sending you a link (in a separate email for your consideration) of some investigations into their activities; they are not to be believed or trusted.
I sadly predict there will be more and more terrorist activities in this country and unfortunately BO has made it easier in so many ways for this to happen. Once again, we the people will have a decision to make, whether we want to live in a constant state of terror, not knowing if we and our families will be safe from these random acts of violence, or if we are going to take a stand against those who have sworn to kill us and transform our nation into an Islamic state under Sharia Law. The war is no longer in the middle east, the war is here in our country and we can now longer deny it. I’m sure the media will try to portray this as an “isolated” incident and not that of a jihadist, but the facts don’t bear that out. When you add up all the “isolated incidents” what you get is an organized movement that acts with intent and forethought. I for one believe the old adage “the best defense is a good offense”. Once again thank you Fred for this forum and for your insights. :)

  9. extex_cop says:

Yep…Muslim from birth here in America….so why would a man of peace ( which is what all Muslims are suppose to be ) join the military after 9-11 knowing that we ( and he ) will be fighting Muslims???
This man has had a hidden agenda for a long time…maybe they will get it out of him…that is if they can keep him alive. I’m sure there are a lot of soldiers willing to pop a cap on him..or cut his throat while he sleeps. Personally I would make it very slow while he is awake and knows everything and feels every little pain or hurt I would put him through.
I’m sure they had to keep this secret so the hospital he was taken to would not be stormed by hundreds of people wanting to do just what I mentioned.
Of course you know all the Muslim Americans will be backing him saying he was harassed to the point that he had no other choice but to shoot the people that offended him and Allah….thus they will want him turned free…so look for Obama to step in and pardon him ( now or later ).

  10. TXSonOfLiberty says:

I’m both very, very angry and sad about this. I agree with Patric…just how did this rag-head, jihadist piece of camel dung get promoted to 04??? No BI, not even a Secret Clearance”? Promotion, even with an unfavorable fitness report on him from Walter Reed…..what a joke! Is the US Army so PC that no one even checked on this Jihadist? It is very unfortunate that he’s still alive. I can see it now, after he’s recovered, in my minds eye….CAIR Lawyers pontificating every nite….MSM Sympathizers (who dare not call this Terrorism)…..White House Apologists spinning their usual lies….Federal Officers covering up why they didn’t proceed with an investigation…..and on…and on…and on! Does the MSM not remember the Muslim USA Sgt. who fragged his outfit in the Mess Tent over in the Sand Box?

And…just what has this piece of sh#t been doing to the minds of the returning combat vets, during his time at Walter Reed? Makes me wonder!!

Long past time to bring our troops home. Let the “Sand Box” take care of itself. We need them home for the War we’re going to be in right here in our own Country!!!! We can take care of the US Islamic problem, while we’re taking this Country back. No-Quarter!!!!

    KEEP YOUR POWDER DRY!!!!!!!

  11. I hadn’t thought about the fact this murdering scumbag will have all the Muslims and Islamo -sympathizers pulling for him. I hope he gets and infection and dies a slow miserable death.

  12. TexasFred says:

Well, color me SHOCKED… I went out for a couple of hours and this Islamic murderer is now ALIVE?

    Maybe Allah saved his ass…

OK, this whole thing has some bad juju working here, and there is a LOT MORE to this story than meets the eye at this time…

  13. Vigilante says:

I agree 100% with everybody. If our government don’t have the balls to send them back to where they came from………hey!! no problem, they can be buried right here ….in pig pens. Bring back the vigilantes
and start burning the mosques first.

  14. Robert says:

Ok this is sad and it’s a damn shame, and my heart goes out to the families of our lost troops. That being said I have to ask a couple of questions:
    1. How does a Mooselimb Shrink with an attitude make it to Major and get transfered to Ft Hood in the first place? I’m not sure of the protocol but seems to me if you have issues in a hospital you should be red flagged as a possible problem…Might just be me thinking out loud…Oh well.

    2. Was it a gun free zone? We all think Military bases should be the last place this would happen due to everyone packing heat. BUT I hear it’s not so: Check this out:

From a blood brother in S.C.

Major Nidal Malik Hasan, an Army psychiatrist, walked into a facility on Ft. Hood, armed with two semi-automatic pistols, and slaughtered a dozen of our nations finest, and wounded scores more. It was a brutal act of senseless violence. Unfortunately, it was not the first, nor the last time that this type of attack will happen. It was, however, the first time that a rampage of this magnitude has taken place at a military facility, and this illustrates one fact that can not be denied. Gun free zones are slaughter zones.

You would be hard pressed to find a more well prepared group of victims than those gunned down at Ft. Hood today. These were highly trained troops, some on their way to combat, and some on their way home from a war zone. These are people who knew how to react quickly to violence against them, and how to neutralize the threat with the minimum risk to themselves. Yet, it didn’t matter today, and here is why…the only people armed were military and civilian police, and the bad guy. Sound familiar?

The rules for carrying weapons on an Army post are the same at every base. The only people allowed to carry weapons on the base are military police. Most personnel must check their firearms daily and are only allowed to be removed from an arms room for training on a range or maintenance. All ammo is signed out and accounted for. Personal weapons must be kept locked and registered with the base provost marshal, and the military police keep a records of all weapons on a base. Essentially, Ft. Hood is a “Gun Free Zone”.

Does anyone really think that this mass murderer would have carried out the same attack at the training range? Would he have been successful if these soldiers had been carrying their service weapons? I think not. If ever there was an illustration for the need for personal protection, today’s tragedy is it.

Keep that in mind the next time some idiot tells you there is no need for individuals to carry a gun.

Is this a true statement? I have no idea since I’ve not been in the army…

  15. Silver Fox says:

Earlier I heard on the the relatives of Hasan say that he didn’t care much for guns and seldom went to the range—Guess he didn’t have the right targets there. To be sure this was an act of terrorist no matter how some may spin it. The man knew what he was doing and was not some raving lunatic, but just a raving Islamic radical terrorist who knew what he wanted and that was to kill as many American soldier as he could before dying himself. Now we find out he didn’t did and that is not good for this country nor for the White House. The trial we be turned into a mockery of American justice, by attorney out to make a name for themselves and the spectual will be unbelieveable and disgusting. The White House will have daily reminders of this muslim who killed 12 American soldiers who has a name much like our president BHO. My heart goes out to all the families of the fallen at Fort Hood.

  16. Mr Pink Eyes says:

There are many unanswered questions here, hopefully the fact that the shooter survived will give us a chance to find out what happened. I do find it curious that nobody is willing to use the “T” word, as a matter of fact they are going out of their way not to mention it.
My heart and thoughts go out to all of the families today.

  17. Longstreet says:

I’m staying mum until I calm down, I have been furious all afternoon yesterday and this morning and now is not the time for me to put my mouth in gear.

I expect a commentary will be forth coming, but for now, I can only express my condolences to the families of the slain and wounded and wishes for good luck to CID, etc.

I cannot shake the feeling that there is SOMETHING we are not seeing, or not being told, about this situation.

May God Bless America… and hurry up!

  18. mrchuck says:

You have heard me say many times,,,,,,”never trust a arab, period!!

Well, here is why. All arabs, and I mean all of them, have a hidden agenda. This will happen again, over and over until the USA population gets it.

There is no such thing as an Arab-American. Remember, the arab comes FIRST 100 percent of the time.
So if anyone out there trusts an arab, then you and only you will be responsible for what the lying, cheating arab does to you and yours.

  19. phred says:

I agree, we don`t have all the facts yet.
What we do know is, the corrupt politicans ( that would be all politicians ) are sending this country to hell on a fast train.
I wonder if there is anyway short of revolution to stop it.
They want virgins ? Let`s give them virgins.
To all the ” peaceful ” muslims, maybe you should think about going home, now.
    GOD Bless America, Y`all.

  20. BobF says:

Robert, that’s a true statement and it goes for every military instillation of all services. There are more citizens armed at the local shopping mall than at the military instillation down the road.

  21. capitalisa says:

CAIR is a terrorist organization. Muslims have declared war on Americans. These are facts. Yesterday, a Muslim killed at least 12 soldiers at Ft. Hood. This isn’t the first incident in this country OR on a US military installation of a Muslim killing soldiers. Who is surprised? Not me. But I AM beyond sick that the US government sympathizes with the enemy. I am equally sick and tired of these attacks NOT being called the terrorist attacks they are, but instead they are just “isolated incidents unrelated to terrorism.” How many isolated incidents does it take to become a WAR!

Court-martial only applies to soldiers. This terrorist wore the uniform, that’s all. No court martial, just the firing squad.

  22. Gawfer says:

As I fought the SoCal Traffic last night, I listened to one of my conservative talk jocks that, for the most part I agree with. And if this was a ‘one off’ incident, I would agree that most Muslims are decent folk. The problem is that in the last 20 years or so, the United States has been continually attacked by these individuals who easily come to the conclusion that their ‘holy book’ affords them the right; nay, the responsibility to act violently toward anyone who does not hold to their beliefs. Further, they are the only religion to do so. There has never been an attack of militant Christians, militant Jews, militant Buddhists, militant Krishna’s or any other militant religious group against us, so why in God’s name do we continue to assume that 99% of these diaperheads are good and decent folk when they have the mechanism to be ruthless killing bastards?!

This sheethead will be nursed back to health, tired by Court Martial and sentenced to death, and I hope they soak the firing squad bullets in pig’s blood; the question still remains however, when will people grow up and realize humans in general are NOT inherently good, but have a natural pension for evil, and when given a chance, will respond in kind?

I’m so disgusted with this who event I’m sick to my stomach. Rant more later.

  23. dudleysdiary says:

After Pearl Harbor, Japanese Americans were rounded up and put in concentration camps to stop attacks on American soil by those with mixed loyalities. We are at war with radical Islam. As long as those with mixed loyalities are free to walk among us and serve in the military we are all at risk. The scariest thing of all is that the current President also has a questionable background and mixed loyalities. God help us.

  24. extex_cop says:

When I was watching this on the news when it first took place….the news reported it was NOT a Terrorist attack. It might not have been a terrorist attack by a large number of people, but it was a TERRORIST attack.
There is going to be hell to pay and people of the Islamic faith are going to get hurt. My solution for them is to leave this country and go to a place or country that is mostly Islamic, so they can worship Allah in peace. Much like our Founding Fathers did when they fled the persecution in Europe, so they could practice their religion freely. Our country was founded on Christian faith…not Islamic. If those that want to freely worship Allah and his law…then go some place else…you are not welcome here in the USA. We are not welcome in their countries that are mostly Muslims…so why should we welcome them here. You want to be an American….become an American. Like mrchuck stated…American first (and only) or don’t bother coming here.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all the people and their families whom where involved in this crazy act of violence. In fact, lets not forget any of our men and women in the service around the world…..may you all be safe and return home quickly to your family and friends. GOD BLESS AMERICA !

The spin is going full steam now with reports coming from “Morning Joe” on the Obama Network this morning that Malik Nadal Hasan was probably suffering from PTSD, Joe Scarabrough failed to call his guest who kept repeating this–of course we know this terrorist had never been deployed before. And I just heard one of your US senators, KBH imply something along those lines on CNN ,although she doctored it up somewhat by saying he had talked to many returning vets about their experiances and since he was facing deployment that was a factor with him—the shit is getting deep!

  27. My bullshit meter is going off scale now…

  28. BobF says:

I was wrong about the rank he may have come in with. I saw a picture of him on the news today wearing Lieutenants bars. The story also said he had sub-standard performance ratings. How the hell does anyone get promoted to Major with sub-standard performance ratings? What is wrong with the Army?

  29. Smokey-Blog says:

I found out today that a fellow cadet from high school who is now a field medic was IN THE FREAKING ROOM when it happened. Thank God he was not hurt at all, and was even able to “put his training to the task”. Please add my friend Tim to your prayers, as I know that even “physically unharmed”, this event has the potential to do, in many cases, more harm than “mere physical injury”. God Bless!

    Bob,
The way commisioned officers work, being a Physician, he was probably commisioned as a captain. Made one advancementby time in service.

  31. Dick Robie says:

Well the true believer finally came out in this guy. He was and is a Muslim. He reads the Koran. He probably believes in shirah law. Allah Akbar ‘God is Great” is what the suicide bombers yell before they push the button.

Wake up America. In WWII this was the 5th Column and the FBI was always on top of it.

Profiling–you damn right we should if we love and respect OUR country. I am so sick of Political Correctness I could barf.

I frankly dont care what this guy may or may not have been suffering from. He needs, as they used to say in Western Movies, a fair trial and a decent hanging.

I hope he and his family are suffering – the dead folks families are suffering and the wounded and thier families are suffering – so suffer you PIG.
