Judge lifts offshore drilling ban

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A federal judge struck down the Obama administration’s six-month ban on deepwater oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico as rash and heavy-handed Tuesday, saying the government simply assumed that because one rig exploded, the others pose an imminent danger, too.

The White House promised an immediate appeal. Later Tuesday, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said in a statement that within the next few days he will issue a new order imposing a moratorium that will eliminate any doubt it is needed and appropriate.

The Interior Department had imposed the moratorium last month in the wake of the BP disaster, halting approval of any new permits for deepwater projects and suspending drilling on 33 exploratory wells.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said President Barack Obama believes that until investigations can determine why the spill happened, continued deepwater drilling exposes workers and the environment to “a danger that the president does not believe we can afford.”

Why the spill happened?

I know Obama and Company aren’t the sharpest knives in the drawer but c’mon, BP, and apparently, every contractor involved with that rig, were doing anything and everything they could *on the cheap*.

It’s already been stated by several people that survived the explosion, there were many corners cut, many less than fully functional and operational safety features in place, and even reports of minor wellhead leaks in the days just prior to the blowout.

Obama and Company are following the advice of Rahm Emanuel, never let a crisis go to waste. This could very well be the opportunity Obama has long looked for, the opportunity to declare a state of national emergency, followed by a declaration martial law.

That would give him the perfect opportunity to issue an executive order banning guns and ordering that all guns in the hands of U.S. citizens be immediately turned over to authorities, and that my friends is the start of the dictatorship.

Barack Hussein Obama hates this nation and everything it once was. Yes, I did say once was.

Sadly, the America of my youth is no more. The Dems of years ago becoming the libbers of today, the GOP, the party of Reagan, has become mostly a RINO filled version of Dem Lite.

Then we have a poser in the White House, a person of dubious character and questionable citizenship that was given the reins of power, and there you have it, America on the ropes, summed up in two very short paragraphs.

U.S. District Judge Martin Feldman, who was appointed by President Ronald Reagan and has owned stock in a number of petroleum-related companies, sided with the plaintiffs.

Which I am guessing led to this.

Interior secretary to issue new drilling ban

WASHINGTON - Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said Tuesday he will issue a new order imposing a moratorium on deepwater drilling after a federal judge struck down the existing one.

Salazar said in a statement that the new order will contain additional information making clear why the six-month drilling pause was necessary in the wake of the Gulf oil spill. The judge in New Orleans who struck down the moratorium earlier in the day complained there wasn’t enough justification for it.

Salazar pointed to indications of inadequate industry safety precautions on deepwater wells. “Based on this ever-growing evidence, I will issue a new order in the coming days that eliminates any doubt that a moratorium is needed, appropriate, and within our authorities.”

A moratorium? Yeah, that’s it, a moratorium. It sounds SO much better than banned.

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs countered that “continuing to drill at these depths without knowing what happened does not make any sense and … potentially puts the safety of those on the rigs and the safety of the environment in the Gulf at a danger that the president does not believe we can afford right now.”

I almost cringe at saying this, but Gibbs is right, in part at least. Say for example, one of the other deepwater rigs blows out, and it can happen. Any oil rig *can* blow out, that’s the nature of the beast. A blowout preventer is not infallible, on land, off shore and obviously not at 5,000 feet down on the ocean floor.

A shallow water blowout and spill would be terrible at any time, but if one were to happen right now, Obama would go ballistic. If a deepwater rig were to fail again, he would be issuing a string of executive orders, none of which would make any sense or bring about any real help but rest assured, one minor slip and Obama will use the power of his office to change this nation into his very own idea of utopia.

The libbers reading here will be saying I have lost my mind, saying that Obama would never do such a thing, saying that Obama is a brilliant leader and only wants what’s best for the nation.

I’m pretty sure that’s what the NAZI party told the German people about Hitler too.

I would love to be able to see what America will look like 100 years from now, to see the world that my grand-children’s grands will be living in. Maybe some of my writings will still be around and maybe they will be able to proudly say, ‘That grumpy old man was a patriot, and he tried to make things better too’. If the word patriot is still in existence that is.

I just hope they don’t hate us for what they inherit.

Nail after nail, these idiots continue to hammer their coffins shut.

If there was any question, the last year and a half have shown this administration to be the most arrogant and incompetent group of adolescents to ever set foot in DC!

    Un-frickin’-believable!

    - All gulf coast states have Republican governors and tend to elect Republicans.

    - The workers on the oil rigs are mostly Non-Union.

    - Most of the people affected are Non-Union workers.

If those states had been Democrat strongholds like NY, California,Michigan and Massachusetts, you can bet your life Obama wouldn’t have even imposed the moratorium to begin with.
