Murder Rate Rises in New Orleans

Murder Rate Rises in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS - The bloodiest city in the country in 2006, reeling from crime in its struggle to recover from Hurricane Katrina, got even worse in 2007.

New Orleans registered 209 homicides last year, a nearly 30 percent increase from the 161 recorded in 2006.

The FBI’s rankings for 2007 will not be out until much later in the year, but New Orleans’ population is thought to be 295,450, which would mean a rate of about 71 homicides per 100,000 people.

Even the most generous population estimate in 2006 put the number of people in the city that year at 255,000. That meant a real homicide rate of 63.5 per 100,000 residents. To compare that number with some other notoriously bloody cities, the rate for Gary, Ind., was 48.3 and Detroit’s was 47.1.

The killings are drug-related or retaliatory for the most part, police have said. The upswing comes despite continued patrols by the National Guard and state police and the addition of two new classes of police recruits in the past year.

But beefed-up policing efforts can only do so much, said Rafael Goyeneche, executive director of the Metropolitan Crime Commission of Greater New Orleans.

Murder Rate Rises in New Orleans

I have been accused of having a sick fixation with New Orleans, the fact that NOLA was my childhood home supposedly has nothing to do with it, and maybe it IS a fixation, I told one of the accusers on the NOLA.com site it was kind of like watching a train wreck, you just can’t turn away, but that wasn’t good enough for him, they wanted deeper explanations.

I gave them the explanation, and for that explanation I was called a leech on society, I was told I had NO RIGHT to make ANY negative comments towards NOLA, I was told I needed to get a job and contribute TO the recovery of NOLA instead of pointing out what was wrong with the city, the accusers apparently overlooked the several times I told them I was retired, or maybe they don’t understand what RETIRED means.

They would’ve had to have had a long term job at some point in their lives to comprehend retirement, damn if I know, they’re a weird, and all around uneducated lot.

I was told I had latent homosexual tendencies as well, and that was supposedly the MAIN reason I was commenting on the NOLA.com site, and that was the funniest one of the bunch because if you have to have latent homosexual tendencies to post there, I guess my accuser is a latent homo.  :D

I was told I was just trying to drum up visitors to this blog, and THAT was the only true thing any of them could say, you see, I had hoped to find some logical and SANE comments from the people of NOLA, but not one was to be had.

Now NOLA is poised to be Murder Capitol America, a nefarious title at best, one that I am sure many in NOLA will attempt to deny as a reality, but the truth is, NOLA is out of control and I seriously doubt that anything can fix it, and what are the reasons??

Drugs, gang territory, murder and mayhem for all maybe, possibly it’s just what 2 legged animals do when they are out of control.

I suppose the people of NOLA.com will get all pissy and accuse the MSM of being racist and not doing anything to help NOLA in their recovery from Katrina, that’s all anyone else gets if they speak against the welfare mentality, massive corruption and high crime level that IS New Orleans, accusations of racism.

The good people of NOLA.com can call me all the names they wish, it only shows the true mentality of the contributors of that site, but the truth is seeing the light of day, the inmates are now running the asylum and the animals roam free, with pockets full of YOUR tax dollars and a couple of guns.

With ANY luck, they’ll kill each other off and the crime and murder rates will subside over time, I mean, it’s not like there’s a chance in hell that the NOPD is going to get a grip on it, they didn’t have any control pre-Katrina, why should we expect anything different now??

Look at the positive side: New Orlean’s gain is Houston’s loss.

As per usual, another great post.

I was employed by BellSouth Repair Dept. during the 2005 hurricane season and know about it first hand. I literally conversed with 100 or more BellSouth customers per day during that period.

Having spoken with THAT many Louisianans, I concur that your assessment is accurate.

There is NO good reason to rebuild NOLA…

    End of story.

You know what? People might be more inclined to help if NO did two things: 1) abandoned that site and 2) appeared to even care about itself in terms of self discipline and labor. But I’ll be damned if I’m sending one stupid cent to a town that wallows in self pity populated by brainless thugs and killing machines.

The funny part is, the people OF New Orleans get all kinds of pissed off if you call em on the bullshit about the dump that NOLA has become, NOLA really is a chocolate city, and 99.999% of the crime IS black on black, ghetto bullshit, turf wars, drugs, ho’s, more drugs, sometimes it may be just boredom, who knows what goes thru the minds of dope heads and welfare slugs…

All I know is that I am SO happy to be where I am as opposed to where I could be…

  5. BobF says:

What gets me is the mindset of these people as they expect (demand) that the American People pay for the restoration of their city. They also expect everyone else in America to come and do all the rebuilding and cleanup work. Why should we? It’s not my city, it’s their city.

Until the citizens of New Orleans set the example and show leadership in the reconstruction efforts, I don’t think anyone in America will be willing to expend any more money or energy for them.

And Fred, next time some product of inferior breeding tells you to get a job and contribute, just tell them you are contributing. Even retirees pay taxes and your taxes are paying for their recovery, along with their $2,000 debit cards, motels, hotels, trailers, food, utilities, and anything else they can whine and complain about wanting for free.

  6. TexasFred says:

Bob, I did explain that to em, the welfare slugs and ‘NOLA is YOUR responsibility’ professional victims sloughed it off, retirees apparently don’t pay taxes…

Shit, I’d be willing to bet I pay more taxes on my investments than most of those turd balls make…

And there was one that told ALL of us, no BS, we’re all just one paycheck away from disaster, I told em, maybe YOU are one check away from disaster…

The real truth is, IF they really are one check away from ruination, they are already there, they just don’t know it yet…

  7. TexasFred says:

As a side note, not that it’s ANY surprise, the story WAS posted on NOLA.com apparently, in an obscure video link directory, they didn’t make ANY headlines of it…

AP Video of NOLA murder rate story

And for ALL of the NOLA empowerment assholes, NOLA has ALWAYS been like this, it’s nothing new, here’s a story from 1995 addressing the decrease in murders, they we happy because at the writing OF this story, December 25, 1995, NOLA had only had 350 murders, compared with 413 at the same time in 1994…

New Orleans Hopes Rise As Crime Rate Decreases

So, to the people of NOLA, argue with the FACTS, call the MSM racist, the liberal MSM that never found a leftist, libber or ‘chocolate’ that they didn’t like, call THEM racists for putting the story out there…

God save us from the hypocrisy that IS New Orleans and the ignorant politicians that would give these welfare slugs BILLIONS of our tax dollars to rebuild that cesspool that IS sinking into the swamp…

  8. Carl says:

Fred, what’s the URL of the NOLA.com blog of which you refer? I went there to try to find it among the large number of blog links they have there.

  9. TexasFred says:

Carl, it’s the comments section under most all of their Headline stories… That’s why I didn’t post a link, there would be too many…
