Iraqi Insurgents Use 2nd ‘Dirty’ Bomb
BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - Insurgents exploded a truck carrying chlorine gas canisters Wednesday - the second such “dirty” chemical attack in two days - while a U.S. official said ground fire apparently forced the downing of a Black Hawk helicopter. All nine aboard the aircraft were rescued.
The attacks offer a sweeping narrative on evolving tactics by Sunni insurgents who have proved remarkably adaptable.
Military officials worry extremists may have recently gained more access to firepower such as shoulder-fired anti-aircraft rockets and heavy machine guns - and more expertise to use them. The Black Hawk would be at least the eighth U.S. helicopter to crash or be taken down by hostile fire in the past month.
The gas cloud in Baghdad, meanwhile, suggests possible new and coordinated strategies by bombers trying to unleash toxic - and potentially deadly - materials. “Terrorists are using dirty means,” said Brig. Gen. Qassim Moussawi, an Iraqi military spokesman.

I would like to say that this is nothing more than a dying gasp of desperation on the part of the insurgents, but I believe it’s more of a ‘take this surge and shove it’ expression showing us that they can, and will strike any time and pretty much any place they wish…
There is a way to stop it, take possession of every known potentially dangerous chemical, biological or explosive weapon in Iraq, lock em down tight, all of em…
Yeah, I know, it’s NOT gonna happen, it can’t happen, the insurgents are masters at building improvised explosives, and you sure don’t need a lot to make that happen, in fact, I can 99% guarantee any reader of this blog that someone trained in the art of building IED’s can build you one, right now, at your house, because I am willing to take bets that in your kitchen, laundry room and/or garage you have all the components needed, and in sufficient quantity to do a, pardon the pun, bang up job too…
We hear all these stories about a ‘dirty bomb’ and folks conjure up a mental pic of a huge mushroom cloud, nope, that’s not a ‘dirty bomb’, some home made explosives and some stolen material from a hospitals radiological area, THAT is a dirty bomb, and that’s what the asshats will be using next if they can lay hands on the material…
Good thing they can’t lay hands on a thermonuclear device, ‘The Little Prince’ wouldn’t be able to pronounce that…

Well ‘Captain Obvious’, Ya think?? Here’s the REAL deal, terrorists will use ANY means at their disposal to kill you, me, us, whoever they happen to target, the manner of death isn’t important to them, only the fact that they kill as many of their opposition as possible matters, they have no morals anyway…
And sadly, until we address them in a manner that is so heinous, so brutal and so savage that it leaves no doubt in their minds that we are 100% serious, this will never end, not as long as Christianity and Islam both exist on this planet…

I think I can guess what it means: A giant parking lot in Baghdad proper and spreading if things don’t change.

There’s an old cliche’: “Be careful for what you wish for because you just might get it…”
They’ll come up with something improvised that could fall into that category and Bush will tell us I told you so, I told you there were WMDS in Iraq…

Jeb, Useless bluster? Nukes?
I don’t remember anyone saying in this post Nuke em? While I would personally be ok with it, that probably wouldn’t solve the issue unless we developed one that would only remove Islamic Cult members.
The answer Fred and others have talked about is a much bigger surge with a change of ROE’s to allow the people fighting to fight the war without a Moron in charge trying to be politically correct and getting GOOD men killed.
There is no for sure answer but what we are doing SURE ain’t working.
Maybe it’s time to try something different besides cut and run.
