WASHINGTON (AP) - High seas in the north Pacific may force the Navy to wait another day before launching a heat-seeking missile on a mission to shoot down a wayward U.S. spy satellite, the Pentagon said Wednesday.

Weather conditions are one of many factors that U.S. military officers are taking into account as they decide whether to proceed with the mission Wednesday or to put it off, according to a senior military officer who briefed reporters at the Pentagon on condition that he not be identified.

The officer said the assumption had been that the mission would go forward Wednesday night, unless conditions are determined to be unfavorable. Earlier in the day, bad weather in the north Pacific was causing rough seas, which may be a problem for the USS Lake Erie, a cruiser armed with two SM-3 missiles.

“We don’t anticipate the weather being good enough today,” the officer said, adding that conditions could improve enough in the hours ahead to permit it to go forward. A final decision would be made by Defense Secretary Robert Gates.

Alluding to the high seas and strong winds, the officer added, “It has not been enough for us to say ‘no’” and put the launch mission off until Thursday. But it would take improved conditions to proceed.

Weather May Delay Shootdown of Satellite

OK, I have had this feeling for a long time but now I am completely convinced, our nation is being led by a bunch of idiots, I mean indisputable, total, rubber room idiots, from the President right on down through the leadership at the DoD, and only God knows where else…

For one thing, according to this, “Adding to the difficulty of the shootdown mission, the missile will have to do better than just hit the bus-sized satellite, a Navy official said Tuesday. It needs to strike the relatively small fuel tank aboard the spacecraft in order to accomplish the main goal, which is to eliminate the toxic fuel that could injure or even kill people if it reached Earth.” it’s got to be better than a perfect shot, it’s got to be that miraculous shot, one in 100,000,000 I guess, long odds anyway…

Now here’s what I want to know, IF they do hit the satellite itself, but not a direct hit on the fuel tank, what happens to the fuel then?? Does it vaporize and just disappear into the vastness of space, is that what happens if they DO hit the tank itself?? Will it eventually migrate it’s way back into Earth’s atmosphere and dissipate itself there?? Does the White House, NASA or the DoD have an answer to that?? If they DO have answers, I haven’t heard them…

Is this all much ado about nothing??

If we can’t strike a satellite in bad weather, what chance do we have of stopping an inbound flock of ICBMs?? The Russians are drooling over this little theater as it plays out for the world to see…

Ladies and Gentlemen, I hope you’ll read this story, it is pathetic, it’s ridiculous, it shows the desperation and lonliness that many in this world feel and I don’t mean the death row inmates, I suppose the phrase There’s a sucker born every minute pretty much fits the bill on this one. there’s really not that much more I can say, not that I’d consider posting anyway…

LIVINGSTON, Texas – Romina Deeken is a classic beauty – long and lithe, cascading blond hair, green eyes set in alabaster – not the type of woman who needs to solicit attention from men.

But last year, the 24-year-old German reached out to a convicted killer on Texas’ death row. Her motives were altruistic, she said, not romantic. In time, after more than 50 letters posted back and forth across the Atlantic, Ms. Deeken said, mutual feelings grew.

“I have a connection with him,” she explained recently, shaking slightly, tears running down her cheek. “Everyone in life has a vision, has dreams, has fears, is searching for something. He is the person I can talk deeply with about these things.”

Ms. Deeken’s story is coffee shop talk in this small southeast Texas town, home of the maximum-security Polunsky Unit and death row.

Each month, dozens of travel-weary, love-struck European women arrive in Livingston for visits with condemned inmates, a pair of four-hour chats through Plexiglas. There is no touching.

KHARTOUM, Sudan (AP) - British teacher Gillian Gibbons was convicted of insulting Islam for letting her pupils name a teddy bear Muhammad and sentenced to 15 days in prison and deportation from Sudan, one of her defense lawyers said Thursday.

Ali Mohammed Ajab, of Gibbons’ defense team, said she was found guilty of “insulting the faith of Muslims in Sudan” under Article 125 of the Sudanese criminal code, a lighter conviction than the original charge of inciting religious hatred. A charge later confirmed by a judge leaving the closed court session.

“I feel this is very serious and very unfair,” he told The Associated Press outside the courtroom. Ajab, who also works for the Khartoum Center for Human Rights, said the issue was raised by “hard-liners who are always trying to make some noise,” in an apparent reference to religious conservatives.

Ajab said his center would appeal the verdict, an opinion not shared by Gibbons’ employer.

Briton Convicted in Sudan Blasphemy Case

I keep hearing all of the human rights groups and women’s groups and religious groups crying out, ‘Where is the outrage?? This isn’t right!’ and I have to agree, it isn’t right, but it IS Islam, and not being right and being Islam go hand in hand as far as we that live in a Christian or Jewish world are concerned…

But Gibbons is not in a Christian or Jewish nation, she is in an Islamic nation and their law is the law of their land, there’s not too much we can say or do, she knew, or, maybe I need say it this way, she should have known what she was getting into when she went to Sudan, she’s white, she’s female, I am guessing she’s probably a Christian, having seen her pictures I know she’s not a Muslim at least, that was obvious from the way she was dressed, all things considered it would appear that the cards were stacked against her from the start…

Outrage?? Where is the OUTRAGE?? That’s the question that everyone is screaming, outrage at a moonbat Islamic court that gave her a sentence of 15 days in jail and deportation for letting her pupils name a teddy bear Muhammad?? That outrage?? Even that sentence is way overboard as far as our legal system is concerned, but the Sudan does NOT operate under our legal system…

She could have received a much more severe sentence, she could have received six months in prison and something like 40 lashes, as well a monetary fine, and the lashes alone would have likely been more than enough to kill her…

Outrage?? Malkin was on FOX News earlier, HERE, she was so angry she was cross-eyed, her neck veins were throbbing and her eyes were close to popping out of her head a time or 2…

Outrage, oh yeah, Malkin has outrage, and a cause, and she had it going on, but here’s the real deal, when in Rome, do as the Romans do, if you don’t like Rome, stay OUT of Italy, so to speak…
