LOS ANGELES — FBI Director Robert Mueller on Monday defended the agency’s use of informants within U.S. mosques, despite complaints from Muslim organizations that worshippers and clerics are being targeted instead of possible terrorists.
Mueller’s comments came just days after a Michigan Muslim organization asked the Justice Department to investigate complaints that the FBI is asking the faithful to spy on Islamic leaders and worshippers. Similar alarm followed the disclosure earlier this year that the FBI planted a spy in Southern California mosques.
“We don’t investigate places, we investigate individuals,” Mueller said during a brief meeting with reporters in Los Angeles.
“To the extent that there may be evidence or other information of criminal wrongdoings, then we will … undertake those investigations,” Mueller added. “We will continue to do it.”

Well, isn’t that special? The Muslims are upset because the FBI is doing exactly what the FBI should be doing, working to protect America. To my surprise, Obama and Eric Holder have allowed it to take place.
The Council of Islamic Organizations of Michigan sent a letter to U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder after mosques and other groups reported members of the community have been asked to monitor people coming to mosques and donations they make. The FBI’s Detroit office has denied the allegations.
In the California case, information about the informant who spied on the Islamic Center of Irvine came out at a February detention hearing for a brother-in-law of Osama bin Laden’s bodyguard, an Afghan native and naturalized U.S. citizen named Ahmadullah Niazi who is accused of lying on his citizenship and passport applications about terrorism ties.
OK, I’ll admit, I’m not the most diplomatic person in the world but here’s a thought, and I’m sure the Muslims won’t think it very politically correct, or a loving comment but maybe, just maybe, if the Islamic religion would stop preaching DEATH TO AMERICA, maybe there wouldn’t be a need to infiltrate their mosques.
I know, it’s a stretch, I know it would likely overtax the limited reasoning ability of Muslims and their woolly mullahs, but SUBMIT OR DIE is just not a user friendly way to spread your lies that tout Islam as the Religion of Peace.
“History disputes Mr. Mueller’s statements, at least in Southern California,” said Shakeel Syed, executive of the Islamic Shura Council of Southern California.
All history has done, so far, is point out the fact that there hasn’t been an attack on targets in Southern California, yet.

Personally, I don’t have any problem with the FBI investigating, openly or in a covert manner, any and all threats to this nation. Islam IS a threat to this nation, and to any free thinking person of this world!
Counter-terrorism and counter-intelligence measures are what keeps a nation safe. During the administration of Bill Clinton, he and the Mrs. decided that it was a really good idea to cut our military and Intelligence services to bare bones. What the heck, we had satellites, we didn’t need real live HUMAN Intel, we had technology, we didn’t need the capability to put boots on the ground in any great numbers. That was the thinking that brought 9-11 upon us. We don’t need to experience an event like that again!

I would not just not have a problem with this, I would EXPECT and DEMAND it. The problem comes with the number of persons suited, vetted and cleared, domestically, for that kind of investigation.

From what I understand the FBI also uses informers and other plants against the Mafia.
As far as I know, that Terrorist Hunting Permit I got right after September 11, 2001, is still good, seeing as how it had no expiration. I would think the FBI had a few of those laying around, no?
