Saturday Morning News, Opinion and Commentary

This is a bit different from my normal method of posting. I’m tired of hammering out one topic posts and just felt like covering a broader range of topics this AM. There’s entirely too much going on to zero in on 1 subject, have a great Super Bowl weekend folks!

Voting is under way in Iraq amid tight security has such a nice ring to it, doesn’t it? We, as a nation, have been thrown in the tank so the Iraqi people can vote, I feel SO special. And only one incident of violence so far as a military officer opened fire and injured two people after voters chanted slogans at a polling station. Opened fire for chanting slogans? Not ALL of Iraq is catching on to this democracy thing.

There’s a light at the end of the tunnel I think, Obama promises lower mortgage costs, new loans. New loans for all the millions that are out of work or are about to BE out of work. That’s the ticket. That’s exactly what we need, more bad debt that can’t be paid and more bad debt the nation will have to absorb. Socialism is such an adventure.

Gov. Pat Quinn of Illinois is off to a rousing start, New Ill. Gov. works to show he’s anti-Blagojevich is the headline, and there’s a picture of Quinn too. He is NOT Rod Blagojevich. Quinn is dressed in a business suit instead of a leather jacket and Quinn didn’t have some wild animal looking thing nesting on his head. Ya gotta admit, that’s a start.

For most of us, BUY AMERICAN is not just a slogan, it’s something we try to do at every opportunity, I know I do. Buying American may be a problem for our new POTUS, Obama facing dilemma over protectionism in bill. Seems like the Brits and the EU just aren’t too terribly happy with the idea that Americans want to buy American. Now I don’t mean to sound presumptuous but would anyone care to speculate on which direction Obama is going to fall on this?? I’m guessing Brit and EU appeasement will be the 1st order of business.

Sometimes it seems like a brother just can’t catch a break, Obama’s half-brother held on drugs charge. He only had 1 joint, or so he said. It’s gotta be a case of trying to make the Obama family name look bad, right? Actually, my very 1st thought was, ‘there’s one in every family’. Billy Carter anyone? If this is a precursor of things to come, maybe we can take it as a sign that Obama is a *one term* guy.

I don’t really understand the hoopla in this, Daschle nomination hits tax snag. What’s the big deal? Being a TAX CHEAT is perfectly acceptable in the Obama administration isn’t it? Timmy Geithner made that very apparent!

And I just have to ask, what in the hell was she thinking? Octuplets mom obsessed with having kids. The woman is unmarried and has conceived ALL of her kids via in vitro fertilization. For crying out loud, that’s 14 kids!! Anyone want to take a guess at exactly who is going to be paying for these little miracles, their food, clothes, medical bills, education, housing?? Anyone??

A couple of tragic stories this AM, Tour bus crash near Hoover Dam kills 7 and 6 die as plane crashes near W.Va. airport. Our sympathies are extended to the families in this time of grief.

Do you suppose PETA is going to be up in the air over this? Yes, pun intended. Birds cause emergency landings, aborted takeoffs. You know that their feathered friends have to be protected. And those nasty old airline pilots enjoy steering their jets right into the birds, deliberately of course. That’s going to be the way PETA tells it!

And last but not least, Nearly 1M without power 5 days after ice storm. I have friends that are caught up in this, no power at home and staying in a motel. According to the article FEMA hasn’t made an appearance yet. Looks like FEMA is a disaster unto themselves. And this time Bush can’t be blamed. I still honestly believe that if the USA would stop trying to fix the ills of the world and focused on taking care of our own, we’d be much better off as a nation.

Michael Steele elected RNC chairman

January 30th, 2009 . by TexasFred

Michael Steele elected RNC chairman

WASHINGTON - Former Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele beat out South Carolina GOP chief Katon Dawson in the sixth round of voting at Fridays Republican National Committee meeting Friday, becoming the first African-American chairman of the party.

The two Republicans fought for the national party chairmanship Friday after Mike Duncan, former President George W. Bush’s hand-picked national GOP chief, abandoned his re-election bid in the fact of dwindling support.

Duncan’s departure ensured a fresh face at the beleaguered GOP’s helm as Republicans seek to rebound from back-to-back defeats in national elections that gave Democrats control of Congress and the White House.

After five rounds of balloting, former Maryland Steele and Dawson were locked in a close race, though neither had reached the 85-vote majority needed to assume the party’s top spot. Steele was six votes shy with 79, while Dawson had 69.

Congratulations to Michael Steele, I wish him, and the RNC much luck!

That said, it appears that a lot of bloggers are almost ‘giddy’ with joy at the election of Steele to the position of Chairman. I am sure Steele is a great choice, I hope he is because right about NOW would be a really GREAT time for Steele to make EVERY effort to move the RNC back to some TRUE Republican roots, and as far away from being nothing more than *Dem Lite* as is possible. No more RINOs! EVER!! RINOs have destroyed the Republican party.

If the RNC doesn’t go back to being REPUBLICAN, if the RNC doesn’t stop trying to be as much like the Dems as they can, I will STILL be an Independent, and the Republican party will continue to be the party of weak-assed old losers, John McCain, and will continue to lose Congressional and Senatorial seats to the Dems.

Am I being a hard-ass?? You bet I am, it’s time to fight or forget it, and I am NOT going to support ANY candidate that’s not Conservative 1st, not until such time that the RNC becomes the party of true Conservatism, and nothing BUT Conservatism!

One story I saw leads off with Michael Steele becomes first black RNC chairman. Personally, I don’t care if he’s green with purple polka-dots. It’s what kind of JOB he can do to bring the Republican party back into line with CONSERVATISM, that is the goal that must be kept in sight!

Without the Conservatives of this nation the Republican party can forget ANY election, and I personally know many Republicans that are now far more inclined towards pure Conservatism than they are the RNC party policy. Steele had best keep this in mind, otherwise, being a Republican means about as much as it did under the last RNC chairman.

Return INTEGRITY to the RNC Mr. Steele, if you can do that, then there is a great possibility the Republicans can take this nation by storm in 2010!

Journalistic Integrity

Journalistic Integrity

This morning there was a story floating around the net, I found it linked on Facebook, it has since been removed. The story is a complete SHAM.

The story is this: Military to Pledge Oath To Obama, Not Constitution and it has been posted on numerous sites including this one as well: Military to Pledge Oath To Obama, Not Constitution

Some people wonder why it’s taken so long for bloggers to become reputable in their reporting and commentary (Op/Ed pieces), I hold the above 2 posts up as testament to the fact, the blog world is STILL filled with IDIOTS!

Reactionary posting, *rumor mill* posting, the posting of unsourced and unverified stories, the “Well, I got it from a friend in an email and you know, they are always really good, they got it from this other friend and…”, that is the kind of CRAP that makes bloggers look bad!

I did a bit of investigation and almost immediately saw this entire story for what it was, a well constructed FAKE, a SHAM, a CRAP piece of slander journalism. One of the really great Mil-Blogs, BLACKFIVE, was also able to dispel this story and it’s associated sources as FAKE.

Folks, I have NO USE for Barack Obama, I make NO secret of that fact. That said, I will not be a part of, nor will I allow to stand, an outright LIE about the President of the United States of America. Barack Obama has his faults, on that nearly ALL of my readers will agree. We will have more than ample ammunition available to use against Obama in the blogs, we don’t have to make up lies. The truth will suffice.

I have NO problem with stating my OPINION, I do it quite often. But if I make a post that IS opinion, I make it quite obvious that it is just that, opinion. If you’re going to make a post that is based on news, from the MSM, or any other source, you had best be prepared to defend that post with a SOURCE. Citation is a writers best friend, and without citation, there can be NO journalistic integrity. It’s a simple matter of exercising professional and personal responsibility.

Don’t feed the *rumor mill*, check your sources, then recheck them, several times. If a blogger can’t post using responsible, and reputable information, then they need to stick to posting pictures of their kids and their cat, or talking about recipes. Go on splogging to your hearts content, but don’t try to pass off some fake BS like this as responsible blogging. Leave the serious blogging to REAL bloggers.

Ill. senate votes 59-0 to remove Gov. Blagojevich

Ill. senate votes 59-0 to remove Gov. Blagojevich

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - Gov. Rod Blagojevich was convicted at his impeachment trial and thrown out of office Thursday, ending a nearly two-month crisis that erupted with his arrest on charges he tried to sell Barack Obama’s vacant Senate seat. Blagojevich becomes the first U.S. governor in more than 20 years to be removed by impeachment.

After a four-day trial, the Illinois Senate voted 59-0 to convict him on the broad charge of abuse of power, then again to disqualify him from ever again holding office in Illinois.

Under state law, the verdict instantly removed Blagojevich, a second-term Democrat schooled in the bare-knuckle politics of the Chicago Machine.

Democratic Lt. Gov. Patrick Quinn, one of his critics, automatically became governor.

I suppose the folks of Illinois actually DO have some good sense after all. I hope the U.S. government trial goes as well!! Bubba will love this *fruit-loop*.

Long over due in my opinion. Quite frankly, I have often wondered, were the people of Illinois that stupid?? Were they THAT desperate??

How could they fall for this guy?? Twice? He’s a crook, nothing but a crook. It’s obvious in his every word. I wish the people of Illinois much luck, their new Governor is going to need it, Blago left one hell of a mess.

There is only one thing that could make this ANY better, and that would be if there were some way to tie Barack Obama into the evil deeds of one Rod Blagojevich. Yeah, I know, but I can dream can’t I??

Happy Trails LOSER!!
