1,300 Iraqi Troops, Police Dismissed

April 13th, 2008 . by TexasFred

BAGHDAD (AP) - The Iraqi government has dismissed about 1,300 soldiers and policemen who deserted or refused to fight during last month’s offensive against Shiite militias and criminal gangs in Basra, officials said Sunday.

Interior Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Abdul-Karim Khalaf said 921 police and soldiers were fired in Basra. They included 37 senior police officers ranging in rank from lieutenant colonel to brigadier general.

The others were dismissed in Kut, one of the Shiite cities where the fight had spread.

Last month, Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki ordered the security forces to confront armed groups in Basra, Iraq’s second largest city.

But they met fierce resistance and the attack quickly ground to a halt as fighting flared across the Shiite south and Baghdad.

1,300 Iraqi Troops, Police Dismissed

1,300 Iraqi troops and police are dismissed?? For desertion?? DISMISSED??

They deserted in time of WAR, they should be lined up and SHOT!!

That’s numbers coming close to being half of a combat brigade folks, a brigade is 3,500 troops, and we have many brigades in Iraq, and they are waiting on the Iraqi army to STAND UP so that they can come home, but the Iraqis have desertions in these kinds of numbers, and ALL that gets done is a dismissal, a mere slap on the wrist??

These are the people that OUR troops are fighting and dying for, our sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, moms, dads, husbands and wives, and many friends as well, and this is what we can expect from the Iraqi army and police??

It’s time to re-think this Debacle in Iraq, I have NEVER voted for a Democrat in my life, but if that’s what it takes to get our troops OUT of Iraq, then by God I WILL vote Democrat this go round, and make NO mistake, I know that over all, a vote for the Dems is a bad thing, but voting for a Democrat is exactly what you’ll be doing if you vote for John McCain, a Democrat without the name, a candidate that is nothing more than a RINO, and the one thing that John McCain guarantees is this, we’re going to stay in Iraq, fighting and dying for a people that will NOT stand and fight for themselves…

We were attacked by the Taliban and their cohorts on 9-11-01, and I never balked so much as once when we went to Afghanistan to take on that bunch of thugs, but Iraq was NOT about the Taliban or al-Qaida, not in it’s inception, Iraq was simply George W. Bush having a temper tantrum because Saddam defied his wishes and threatened ‘Daddy’, and after several changes of mission statement and definition, we’re still there, in Iraq, an entire nation that is NOT worth the life of so much as ONE of our fine men and women in uniform…

I know there will be many that disagree with this post, but quite frankly, I DON’T CARE, if you can’t open your eyes and see what us being in Iraq has done to this nation, and what George W. Bush has brought upon this nation by taking us TO Iraq, then you are truly one of the blind Bush Bots, and if that offends you, feel free to click out of this blog and stay clicked out!!

I personally feel that those who support the Debacle in Iraq are doing a dis-service to our military members, if we are going to go to war, anywhere in this world, we owe it to our men and women in uniform to prosecute that war in the most expeditious manner possible, and to get them home safely, as soon as possible, and that has NOT been the case in Iraq, we are still conducting a tit for tat, a travesty which we have no apparent desire to end…

And once again the war fighting skills of the Iraqi army make it quite apparent as to exactly WHY we rolled over Saddam and his Republican Guard in such short order, the Iraqis WILL NOT FIGHT, they will conduct insurgent and guerrilla operations, they WILL persecute defenseless people, they will dominate and murder those that won’t fight back but IF there is a challenge made against the Iraqi army, they, as a whole, show their true colors and run like dogs…

Any nation or people that refuses to fight for it’s own freedom is NOT worth fighting FOR, not by us or any other nation, a people that will not stand in their own defense are not worth defending!!

Support Iraqi Freedom?? Screw Iraq AND it’s freedom, bring our troops home NOW, or deploy them to a place where they can actually do some good in the War on Terror, and not leave them act as stand-ins and IED fodder for some insurgency and their civil war!

Pathetic, just plain pathetic is all I can say. The officers, at minimum, should have been publicly hanged as an example of the rewards of cowardice and treason.

I am afraid that I have to agree with you on this one Fred…voting for a Dem is something I never thought I would consider.
But Obama and Clinton are both in the same sandbox as far as taking our fine men and women home from Iraq.
The Iraqis won’t stand on their own and that is costing us America’s finest!!
McCain said we would be there for the next 100 years..screw him.
I hate seeing the daily posts on new casualties in Iraq. It could be your son or daughter, mine, or any of your frequent readers.
These sand monkeys can’t stand up for themselves and apparently they never will….so let them sit in their own quagmire.
    ‘Nuff said

I wonder where the 1300 are heading, you don’t think they’re going to Disneyland do you?

We all know where they’re going, they’re going to get even more Americans killed. Tax dollars well spent.

Ranando, my very 1st thought was, these rag headed sons of bitches aren’t concerned about dismissal, they had their weapons and equipment in holding, and now they WILL be out there doing everything in their power to kill more Americans…

I don’t know what troops these Bush Bot bastards are talking to but I talk to a lot of troops myself, some are friends, some are family, some are friends OF family, and I have one old and dear friend that is still employed by an Intel agency and I can tell you this, the word I get is nothing even remotely similar to what people like Amy and a few others are telling…

I hear about the rocket attacks on the Green Zone and the REAL damage that is incurred, I hear how the troops feel about going back to Iraq for that 2nd, 3rd and in some cases, 4th tour of duty, and let me assure you, they have nothing good to say about Iraq OR Iraqi freedom, almost to a man, the guys I talk to say the same thing, “Yeah, we’re going back, and I’m gonna go, but it’s not because I want to ‘free’ some shit-skinned assholes, I am going because I’m ordered to go and I have no choice, and I am going to be there to protect my BROTHERS, I don’t give a f*ck about the Iraqis…”

And truth be told, that’s quite likely what many more troops would say if they knew they weren’t afraid they were talking to some ignorant asswipe like Amy, or someone like her, someone that would run to the base commander and ‘rat’ em out in an effort to suck up to a new level of ass kissing and stripe buying…

I couldn’t of said it better my self, F**k Amy and those that surport her.

She makes me sick and I can’t believe the people that follows what she says.

I wish her only the worst in life for what she has done, may God send her to Hell along with all the other Bush-Bots.

F**K them all. May she burn in Hell along with her disgusting husband.

The democrats will not bring the troops home from Iraq. Do NOT be fooled.

Once they assume office, the war in Iraq will become theirs. They understand that… and they also understand that pulling the troops out of Iraq will be seen as the worst defeat in the history of the United States Military… and they do not want that millstone hung around the neck of a democrat presidential administration. However, they would be happy to hang it around George Bush’s neck.

The dems may have a draw down of troops, but the bulk of the troops now in Iraq will remain.

I have said from day one of the invasion that US forces would be in Iraq for 50 years at least. Check my archives and you will see that. Nothing has since changed my mind.

No, I am NOT happy with the prosecution of the war in Iraq. I think it could have been done far more aggressively and it would have resulted in a cessation of hostilities long before now. Add to that our godawful attempt at nation building and we have a huge mess on our hands.

Look, I fully expect my 5-year-old grandson to serve in the US Military in Iraq. His mother and I have already spoken about it. I am convinced that war in Iraq is a fact that will be with us for a VERY long tome.

I understand many of you will not agree with me. That is fine. I respect that. It is your right, and I would expect no less from “thinking” people I happen to admire such as yourselves. I am not so conceited as to believe that I have the answer, or ANY answers, as far as the war is concerned. But, I do believe that it will be with us a very long, long, time.

    Respectfully,

    Longstreet

Not being fooled Longstreet, I don’t think they can or will either, but McCain says he will NOT even entertain the idea…

It’s one hell of a mess to be sure, and you are correct, your grandson and mine will both likely serve in that flea infested shit hole if there’s still a USA that’s capable by that time…

And here’s the only point where we may disagree, I believe Iraq IS the fault of George Bush, win, lose or draw, it’s HIS baby, and our troops DID do the job they were sent to do, they took out Saddam, and whether that was a very good idea or a very bad one will be left to history, but after Saddam and his band of merry men were deposed, Bush and Company blew the most wonderful opportunity that could have ever been presented to them, all because none of Bush’s people had a clue as to what move to make next, and the ones that DID have a good idea were shunned because Bush didn’t want to appear to be a ‘victor’ in war…

My contention has long been that we had NO business going to Iraq to begin with, BUT, if you’re gonna go, why waltz when you can rock and roll??

You can’t fight a PC war, it’s just not going to happen, Bush has tried it and he came out looking just like the moron he is, and over 4,000 U.S. troops to date have made the ultimate sacrifice in Bush’s Debacle in Iraq, not to mention the fact that we as a nation are on the verge of bankruptcy…

All hail George Bush, right Amy?? And Maggie, you be sure to throw your little rah-rah in there too, tell us how it’s not Georgie, it’s that mean old congress that’s to blame for the way Bush micromanaged this war to the point of NO return… :(
