Bush Delivers Arms Sale to Saudi Arabia

January 14th, 2008 . by TexasFred

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) - President Bush, on his first visit to this oil-rich kingdom, delivered a major arms sale Monday to a key ally in a region where the U.S. casts neighboring Iran as a menace to stability.

Bush’s talks with Saudi King Abdullah, which began over dinner and were continuing with late-night meetings, also were expected to cover peace between Israelis and Palestinians and democracy in the Middle East.

Coinciding with Bush’s trip, the Bush administration in Washington notified Congress on Monday that it will offer Saudi Arabia the chance to buy sophisticated Joint Direct Attack Munitions - or “smart bomb” - technology and related equipment, the State Department said. The administration envisions the transfer of 900 of the precision-guided bomb kits, worth $123 million, that would give the kingdom’s armed forces highly accurate targeting abilities.

The sale is part of an overall $20 billion weapons package for Saudi Arabia, administration officials say.

Bush Delivers Arms Sale to Saudi Arabia

How do you finance your own war??

Why, you sell munitions to the Saudis that were the REAL reason for that war…

Look, I have never been a big fan of George W. Bush, and I don’t think he’s playing with a ’straight’ deck, he embraces the Saudis like long lost family and insists that they are our friends, but I submit to you, the Saudis are NOT our allies, they are not our friends, I fully believe that the Saudis are the very reason the attacks of 9-11 happened and this action is, in MY opinion, nothing less than giving aid, support and comfort to enemies of THIS nation, and that equates to nothing less than treason…

This BS in Iraq is not about terror, it’s not about democracy or Iraqi Freedom, it’s not about anything other than securing oil sources…

I never thought Iraq was the place we needed to go and when the libbers all screamed ‘War for Oil’ I blew it off as being ‘libber BS’ because even though I felt Iraq was an unnecessary action, I could not fathom that a U.S. President would send our troops off on a venture of financial gain…

I was wrong…

Iraq, and quite likely Afghanistan are both nothing more than a roll over of funds and those funds are certainly going into someones pockets, and they aren’t OUR pockets, not the people of the USA, anyone that’s bought a tank of gas or a bill of groceries lately knows what I mean…

George W. Bush is giving more and more of this nation away every day the sun comes up, and we still have a year for him to personally equip and finance our enemies with ALL they need to take America apart, and by actions such as these, he only substantiates my accusations…

And what about the Mexican border??

I figure the Saudi goverment, ie, the royal family, are allies..but not the majority of the Saudi population and none of the mullahs. The Saudi family has billions invested in the American economy and it is in their best interst for the USA to stay strong..money in their pockets.

However, I also figure that the Saudi government is walking a tightrope to stay in power..in private telling our government one thing and in public supporting the mullahs who could overthrow them whenever they want to.

In any event it ain’t good..but the Saudis have been one of the only reasons that oil has not went completely ff the charts. And when they can no longer pump enough to control the price through supply then who knows what will happen.

Now I think we can all say that George W. Bush and his Administration are not supporting our troops, thay are infact having our troops murdered.

Anyone that would support this sale is not an American, they’re treators plain and simple.

I don’t care who they are, the candidate that steps forward and speaks out against this will get my support and for some reason I don’t think it’s going to be George W. Thompson.

As far as George W. Thompson the time is now, you’re either Chicken-Salad or your Chicken-Shit. The time is now that you step forward and join all of us that have had enough. Join all of us that want to save our country.

It is not up to us to join you Dear Sir but rather, it is time for you to join us.

I will be waiting with open-ears to hear his response, any bets?

We’ve been selling the Saudi’s arms for decades. I was in Saudi Arabia in 1980 and they were flying fighters made in the USA. We trained Saudi pilots and mechanics for quite some time also.

Back in 1979 I attended an advanced aircraft electronics course with two Iranian NCO’s in attendance. We had armed Iran with the best we had at the time, even selling them F-14 Tomcats. When Jimmy Carter turned his back on the Shaw of Iran, all those weapons fell into the hands of Islamic extremists. My concern is the advanced weaponry we’ve been selling other Arab nations falling into the hands of Islamic extremists. What insurances do we have they won’t?

  4. comment number 4 by: TexasFred

Bob, we don’t have any assurances that the stuff we sell the Saudis isn’t going to insurgents…

I do NOT trust the Saudis, I feel they are the force (money) behind 9-11 and that’s a feeling I can’t shake, I don’t care how long we’ve done business with em, I don’t trust em any farther than I can throw em…

    Let me add….

As long as Saudi Arabia has schools within their borders teaching Death to America they will be our Number One Enemy. It’s time to realize that the children they’re teaching this Hate to will be the leaders of this country in the years to come.

I too have been to Saudi Arabia many time since the 70’s and they are with-out a doubt the most disgusting people on Earth, IMO.

The House of Saud will fall at some point, wish I had the references handy, Dembeste was my best source for information on the House of Saud before he stopped posting, I have yet been able to find as concise of a source.

With that said, the House of Saud will either implode on itself OR be removed when the mullahs tire of their bargain with the house. From what I recall the bottom rung of the House of Saud is huge, and simply put there are many of the unfavored masses that can no longer afford the loft in NYC and a yacht in Monaco, many neither. Some of them have gone extremist Islamic, and some are sticking around and in-fighting for more money; both are a destabilizing experience.

At some point the deal that keeps the House of Saud apparently in power will collapse, and would suggest all of the implications mentioned above are probably correct and then some.

So let’s see, China, Russia, Saudi*, Iran, Syria, Pakistan*, Afghanistan*, Iraq*, and I am sure there are a few I am missing. (* - good potential if the region falls to the masses). Quit the list eh? And will we be able to count on Wester Europe to be able to help?

I just hope I am completely wrong

BTW Fred, for the last 3+ years since I read of the Carlyle group, and other ties the Bush family has I’ve been with you, just did not know about you back then.

The best thing, repeat, the BEST thing we can do is for our nation to become energy self-sufficient, move transportation from the petroleum nipple (other types? I have no idea what’s practical at this point; certainly NOT ethanol), re-evaluate ALL of our foreign aid. Then step back and take the gloves OFF of Israel and allow them to DEFEND themselves. Lone Rider makes an excellent point; I’m not sure there’s much life left in the House of Saud.

The more I think about this the more pissed off I get. I have never cared or complained about the price of gas before but I just filled up my Suburban, $165.00, it holds 44 gallons.

What does this F***Head do, he sells arms to the Saudis as a way of saying thanks. You can bet your ass that these arms will find their way into the hands of people that will kill Americans with them.

Did the word Oil ever even come up in this Cluster-F*** of a deal?

    Where’s the God Damn Outrage?

  11. comment number 11 by: LoneRider

    BZ,

Yup, and my best guesstimate says we can do it in under a decade; and I believe most of the technology is available, and no, that does not mean we all drive Prius’s.

    1) Except for natural gas, no more producing electricity with hydrocarbons, that is what various forms of fission are for, period. Natural gas and hydroelectric are to be used for peak load balancing, nukes for primary load.

    2) Coal, food rendering, and trashed plastics can all be cooked and put into distillate towers for, you guessed it bio-deisel.

    3) Hit up the oil shale in the north and Alberta tar sands, drill from the arctic to the gulf.

    4) Push for series Hybrid, such as the GM volt, which happens to be a plug in as well, so we get more bang for the buck from our nuclear power plants, especially if we program the charging to take place late night/easrly morning to load balance the nuclear power plants

    5) Use breeder reactors and other technology to recycle and use the “waste” from the nuclear power plants.

    6) Co-locate large heat/cooling industries around the new nuke plants to use the waste heat from the power plant. Desalinization plants might also be a good fit.

Other than some of the breeder reactor technology all of what I have listed is in current use. And of course, STOP USE FOOD FOR FUEL, sorry, had to shout that one.

What do the candidates have to say about that?…

Some on the Left say, “It’s time to end the race and gender baiting and get back to issues.” I say let the Democrats bicker among themselves and let the Republicans get back to the issues. Admiral Mike Mullen wants…

Can anyone say, “arms for oil?”

  14. comment number 14 by: Ranando

I was happy to read this morning that Bush had the common sense to bring up oil.

I also read that Congress signed off on this Arms Deal.

    I’m not happy.
