Texas children roped into Islamic training

May 30th, 2008 . by TexasFred

Public school students at Friendswood Junior High in the Houston area have been roped into Islamic training by representatives from the Council on American-Islamic Relations during class time, prompting religious leaders to protest over Principal Robin Lowe’s actions.

Pastor Dave Welch, spokesman for the Houston Area Pastor Council, confirmed the indoctrination had taken place and called it “unacceptable.”

“The failure of the principal of Friendswood Junior High to respect simple procedures requiring parental notification for such a potentially controversial subject, to not only approve but participate personally in a religious indoctrination session led by representatives of a group with well-known links to terrorist organizations and her cavalier response when confronted, raises serious questions about her fitness to serve in that role,” the pastors’ organization said.

According to a parent, whose name was withheld, the children were given the Islamic indoctrination during time that was supposed to be used for a physical education class.

“I am simply trying to get the word out to those whose kids may not have told them about an Islamic presentation that all kids were required to attend,” wrote the parent, who was working to assemble protests to the school board.

OK, I don’t usually get too involved in things like this simply because, to put it quite frankly, I am not a deeply religious person, I have my beliefs and they are mine, and pretty private, freedom of and from religion you might say, but this is terribly over the top in my opinion…

General Rule: Organized prayer in the public school setting, whether in the classroom or at a school-sponsored event, is unconstitutional. The only type of prayer that is constitutionally permissible is private, voluntary student prayer that does not interfere with the school’s educational mission. SOURCE

For quite some time now we have been told, had it forced upon us actually, prayer is bad in public schools and a few folks took it to court, and found some liberal judges that agreed, prayer in schools is bad, so, there was a ruling that no school sponsored prayer or theology could be taught in our public, taxpayer funded schools, and we let them get by with it…

Now, our kids are forced to listen to the teachings of Islamic ‘evangelists‘?? Forced to listen?? What would the schools do if a Minister, a Priest or a Rabbi wanted to have equal time with the children as they presented their side of things?? Do you suppose a Christian or Jewish viewpoint would be given equal time?? I seriously doubt it…

What are they using as a selling point?? “We are the religion of peace, submit or die you little infidel“??

I have no problem with theology being taught to our children, but to infuse those teachings with the beliefs of Islam are way past any accepted normal as far as I am concerned…

There also was no parental notification, and students were required to attend.

Those marvelous folks that make it their mission in life to right all wrongs, the ACLU, and every other moonbat civil rights organization, would be all over this if Christianity or Judaism were the required courses of studies, where is their faux outrage now??

I submit to you that we are not only seeing a violation of all accepted policies regarding public education in America, we are also seeing the hypocrisy of the left as they sit silent while the travesty that is Islam is allowed to be taught to our children…

A big Hat Tip to YID With LID, where I found this today…

    Well, there you go.

Perfect example of the left’s hypocrisy, and their attitude - “Anything but Christianity! We don’t want Christian values! We want people and religions who don’t value life!”

    Bunchawhiners.

You wondered what would have happened if it was Christianity or Judaism? Well, I’ll tell you - the liberals would have had the ACLU all over this like white on rice. There would have been a lawsuit filed by nightfall, and the Principal would have been tarred and feathered for allowing it.

As it is, she needs to have her actions investigated, since she has broken many laws here, (right or wrong, it’s still the law) and as far as no prayer in schools? Hah! As long as there are tests, there will be prayer… :)

Marines in hot water over Christian coins in Iraq…

It is however OK for Muslims in the US to demand equal treatment in everything and in many cases more than equal treatment.  If Iraq is going to be this ’shining light of democracy’ in the ‘big cat box’ why isn’t freedom of religion being practiced?

I vote we scrap the whole taxpayer supported system.  Property taxes would sure drop, and folks with kids could pay for the type of education they want their children to have.  Instead, we’ve got a bunch of weasels shoving garbage down our kids throats.  As a result, we’ve got a lot of little robots touting “the party line”.

I don’t agree with Kate.  A free public education has been the backbone of American Democracy. The trouble with education in America is that it is controlled by left-wing, anti-religion fanatics.  The Judeo-Christian values that our forefathers instilled in the nation are to be considered outdated and racist.  Instead the religion of Multiculturalism and Secularism is to be taught.  These are without a moral value, and compromise a parents right to instill in their children the values and religion of their choice.Since the early 1970′s, this way of thinking has been taught.  And what have we gotten from it?  Poor test scores, poor basic skills in reading, writing and arithmetic, but our children do have good self-esteem.  How can they not considering that nobody is allow to fail or be left behind.  It might harm their psyche.

  5. comment number 5 by: Kate

I beg to disagree Katie.  Free?  There’s nothing free about the public education system.  It is one of the most wasteful use of tax dollars to come down the pike.  We spend more and more, yet get less and less.

Personally I don’t see how its the job of government to educate our children.  Government certainly isn’t equipped for the job and thus do bad job of it.

  7. comment number 7 by: Katie

How is it that for over 150 years Free Education had taught generations of Americans reading, writing and arithmetic and yet today they cannot?  And they did it on the public dollar.  They taught love for the country.  It was only when the crazy leftists got control of the educational system that problems aroused. One doesn’t take into account that the children of the poor will not receive any education if Free Education would be eliminated.  Have you priced what a private school costs?  Even with vouchers, it is out of the reach of the poor.  Thus we would create a class of uneducated, unskilled people.  Not good for a society that needs highly educated people for a technological world.I attended a public school and received an excellent education.  But when I started school, one had to obey certain rules:  No talking back to the teacher (the woodshed would result), Do your homework, No gum chewing, and you had to be very respectful to your teacher.

  8. comment number 8 by: Kate

Katie, they’re called unions, and they’ve destroyed the NOT FREE public education.  I don’t mean to be rude, but what part of TAXPAYER FUNDED do you not get? 150 years ago, communities pooled their resources and paid to bring a teacher in to teach their kids, usually in the church.  They provided a roof and a stipend.  There were no excessive benefits, no retirement packages for the duration of their lives.  So, what is it you really want?  Turn the clock back 50 years, or 150?  Ain’t gonna happen!  Scrap the system, start from scratch, return control to the parents. Are you a teacher?

  9. comment number 9 by: Katie

No not a teacher, but have friends who are.  Not all teachers follow the union.  Most don’tAnd I am a taxpayer.  I would rather pay for the education of a child now than the incarceration of the adult later.  The way out of poverty is education.  That is the only solution that works.Having the Church run the schools leads to some children not receiving an education.  The Church has the right to refuse to educate someone. Thus you will have no education for a good majority of children.  The nation will decline in its standard of living with the majority of its citizens being illiterate and with no skills. We need to get the liberal agenda out of the schools, go back to the basics of reading, writing, arithmetic, and patriotism.  Our schools must start teaching love of country the way they did for myself, my parents, my grandparents.  What worked for millions of children before the multicultural “experts” took over, will work for the next generation of children.  But it is the parents who must demand this change.  They have the most at stake, it is their children.

“I would rather pay for the education of a child now than the incarceration of the adult later.”And how is that working out for ya?  I didn’t say the church was educating the kids back then, I said the school rooms were IN the churches.  There’s a difference. “Thus you will have no education for a good majority of children.”You don’t think the parents of these children would be willing to pool some of the funds they are saving on their property taxes and hire GOOD teachers, with the understanding that if their children aren’t learning, they can be canned?“We need to get the liberal agenda out of the schools, go back to the basics of reading, writing, arithmetic, and patriotism.”This will NEVER happen as long as the gubmint is involved in the education system!

Why is it that home schooled and those schooled in private schools, like Christian schools, always score higher on achievement tests? The problem with government schools is they’re not “public” but government run.   When the parents want a Christmas play put on depicting the birth of Christ and the school refuses, you tell me if they’re public or not.

  13. comment number 13 by: Katie

Home schooled and private schools give more teacher time to each child.  That’s the problem with the public schools.  Too many students and too few teachers.  A lot of it is the fact that public schools are being forced to teach the children in this nation illegally.  Take them out of the equation and the quality of education goes way up.“I would rather pay for the education of a child now than the incarceration of the adult later.â€?And how is that working out for ya? It’s not.  But I fault the parents and not the schools.  Why is it that Hispanic and black children aren’t graduating these days?  It isn’t the schools fault.  They are bending over backwards to accommodate every little demand of those communities.  I blame the parents (many of whom have little or no education), the leadership in the Hispanic and Black communities (for crying racism if a child is failed in a class) and their churches (for continuing the ideology of victimhood instead of fostering education and advancement).  And if that makes me a racist, them I’m a racist.Every minority group that has figured out that the way out of poverty is education has thrived.  Those who cry victim and want handouts have stayed in poverty.  It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that out.  But it does take a person courage to force their child to go to school and study.

Anything done by government is done badly, its also Socialism to some extent and that’s not a good thing.

  15. comment number 15 by: Katie

Not everything.  The military is a government run entity.  And I’m glad it is.  Could you imagine what this nation would be like if the military was a private entity?

And I would like to point out, this thread is supposed to be about the FORCED teaching of Islam in a PUBLIC school…

I’d really like to hear a few comments on that and not so much the failure of our educational system in general… :?

Then, I’ll go back to my original comment:  Scrap the whole thing!  I have no problem with the kids being taught about religions of the world.  I have a MAJOR problem with the PC crowd shoving one down their throats.  And that’s exactly what is going on in public schools around the country.  Can’t offend anyone…..but the Christians!

  22. comment number 22 by: Katie

The thing about allowing organized prayer in the schools is this:If you allow Christians to have prayer openly, then the Muslims can demand the right to have prayers on Fridays.  To keep the Muslims out, you have to keep everyone out.  Otherwise they (the Muslims) will scream in the courts that you have established a religion.  And the court would side with them. What CAIR and the school did was against the Law.  And they should be penalized for it.  The Supreme Court case is Wallace v. JaffreeIn which the Supreme Court wrote:The First Amendment requires that a statute must be invalidated if it is entirely motivated by a purpose to advance religion. Thus in allowing CAIR to do this assembly, the school was advancing a religion.

  23. comment number 23 by: Kate

Jiminy Crickets woman, did you actually READ the column, AND the post?  The Muslims are DEMANDING freedom of THEIR religion, and it’s being sold in the public schools like cotton candy at the carnival.  Let a group of Christian teens ask to say a pray near the flag pole NOT on school time, and all hell brakes lose!

Did you read the court decision Kate.  It is clear.  Any religion in a school opens the school up to all religions.  If you have Christian prayers at the school, then Muslims can demand the same rights.  If there are no prayers, then you silence the Muslims. What the school did was in violation of the law, and a good lawsuit will teach that school district NEVER to invite Muslims to their school again. This isn’t an issue on Prayer in the Schools, but whether the school can teach religion.  They can’t and shouldn’t.  That is the domain of the family and the church. For the record:  I read the article, the posting here, the post at Yid With Lid, the post at Jihad Watch and Posted at Monkey in the Middle.

OK, I am gonna throw my .02 in here and I don’t give a damn who likes it or doesn’t…

Muslims and their moonbat cult can all go to hell, it’s NOT about peace or freedom, it’s about domination and that doesn’t belong in our schools being taught to our children in a subliminal message, THAT is Islam, peace from their mouths and death from their weapons, f*ck em, f*ck em ALL…

Jews and Christians don’t preach domination, hate and death to all that refuse to accept them, not normal Jews and Christians, there’s moonbats in every group of people and the Jews and Christians are no exception, maybe there are some that believe and teach as the Muslims do, I really don’t know, MY issue is the Islamic assholes being allowed in OUR schools to begin with…

I have NO problem with prayer in school, but NOT those of a murderous cult of hypocrites, liars and abusers that would dominate this entire world and kill any that refused to submit…

Islam is a sickness and it must be stopped, and here’s the deal, that’s MY opinion, this is MY blog and anyone that doesn’t like that opinion can kiss MY ass…

Is the view nice from la la land?  All the law suits in the world won’t make a bit of difference if you have a public school system that continuously defies the findings.  This is what they are actually doing in the schools!  A law suit here, a law suit there, is all very nice.  It doesn’t change a bloomin’ thing.  You can “silence the prayers”, yet they go on…..the MUSLIM prayers, that is, not Christian, or Jewish, or Hindu, or Buddhist.  MUSLIM!  Oh wait a minute, don’t the Wiccans have more rights? There is a difference between what you would like, and what is actually going on.

  28. comment number 28 by: Katie

I’m not in La La Land.  And until you can get the 9 on the Court to change Wallace v. Jaffree you will not be able to get organized prayer in the schools.  If you had read the court’s decision it says:(b) One of the well-established criteria for determining the constitutionality of a statute under the Establishment Clause is that the statute must have a secular legislative purpose. Lemon v. Kurtzman, 403 U.S. 602, 612 -613. The First Amendment requires that a statute must be invalidated if it is entirely motivated by a purpose to advance religion. Pp. 55-56.

    (c) The record here not only establishes that 16-1-20.1′s purpose was to endorse religion, it also reveals that the enactment of the statute was not motivated by any clearly secular purpose. In particular, the statements of 16-1-20.1′s sponsor in the legislative record and in his [472 U.S. 38, 39] testimony before the District Court indicate that the legislation was solely an “effort to return voluntary prayer” to the public schools. Moreover, such unrebutted evidence of legislative intent is confirmed by a consideration of the relationship between 16-1-20.1 and two other Alabama statutes - one of which, enacted in 1982 as a sequel to 16-1-20.1, authorized teachers to lead “willing students” in a prescribed prayer, and the other of which, enacted in 1978 as 16-1-20.1′s predecessor, authorized a period of silence “for meditation” only. The State’s endorsement, by enactment of 16-1-20.1, of prayer activities at the beginning of each schoolday is not consistent with the established principle that the government must pursue a course of complete neutrality toward religion. Pp. 56-61If you allow Christians to have organized prayer, then any group must be allowed to have organized prayer.  If you have a class about Christianity, then any group must be allowed to have classes about their faith. Thus now the pastors can insist on a Christian class being held in the school. It’s not giving one group more rights, it giving every group the same rights. Thus prayer in school could be done if every religion had their say.To keep Muslims from preaching in our schools, the only LEGAL way is to keep every faith from preaching.  A shame really when you look at faiths like Baha’i, Christianity, and Judaism.  I’d love to see a class with members of all those faiths show up and teach about their beliefs.  But until you can find a way to exclude Muslims, you will have to do without it.

    From the column:
“The failure of the principal of Friendswood Junior High to respect simple procedures requiring parental notification for such a potentially controversial subject, to not only approve but participate personally in a religious indoctrination session led by representatives of a group with well-known links to terrorist organizations and her cavalier response when confronted, raises serious questions about her fitness to serve in that role,? the pastors’ organization said.
According to a parent, whose name was withheld, the children were given the Islamic indoctrination during time that was supposed to be used for a physical education class.
Now where in those two paragraphs did it say anything about the school checking with the courts?  If the kids had balked, and refused to go along with this sort of indoctrination, the outcome might have been vastly different.  But since the schools have been pulling this type of crap a lot since 9/11, kids have been brainwashed into thinking this is ok, the school says so.
You’re like a dog with a bone, ignoring the steak that’s in front of you.  “But but….they can’t do that! The court said so!”  Well, does it seem like they are listening to those court rulings?  No, they aren’t!
