May 30th, 2008 . by TexasFredPublic school students at Friendswood Junior High in the Houston area have been roped into Islamic training by representatives from the Council on American-Islamic Relations during class time, prompting religious leaders to protest over Principal Robin Lowe’s actions.
Pastor Dave Welch, spokesman for the Houston Area Pastor Council, confirmed the indoctrination had taken place and called it “unacceptable.”
“The failure of the principal of Friendswood Junior High to respect simple procedures requiring parental notification for such a potentially controversial subject, to not only approve but participate personally in a religious indoctrination session led by representatives of a group with well-known links to terrorist organizations and her cavalier response when confronted, raises serious questions about her fitness to serve in that role,” the pastors’ organization said.
According to a parent, whose name was withheld, the children were given the Islamic indoctrination during time that was supposed to be used for a physical education class.
“I am simply trying to get the word out to those whose kids may not have told them about an Islamic presentation that all kids were required to attend,” wrote the parent, who was working to assemble protests to the school board.
OK, I don’t usually get too involved in things like this simply because, to put it quite frankly, I am not a deeply religious person, I have my beliefs and they are mine, and pretty private, freedom of and from religion you might say, but this is terribly over the top in my opinion…
General Rule: Organized prayer in the public school setting, whether in the classroom or at a school-sponsored event, is unconstitutional. The only type of prayer that is constitutionally permissible is private, voluntary student prayer that does not interfere with the school’s educational mission. SOURCE
For quite some time now we have been told, had it forced upon us actually, prayer is bad in public schools and a few folks took it to court, and found some liberal judges that agreed, prayer in schools is bad, so, there was a ruling that no school sponsored prayer or theology could be taught in our public, taxpayer funded schools, and we let them get by with it…
Now, our kids are forced to listen to the teachings of Islamic ‘evangelists‘?? Forced to listen?? What would the schools do if a Minister, a Priest or a Rabbi wanted to have equal time with the children as they presented their side of things?? Do you suppose a Christian or Jewish viewpoint would be given equal time?? I seriously doubt it…
What are they using as a selling point?? “We are the religion of peace, submit or die you little infidel“??
I have no problem with theology being taught to our children, but to infuse those teachings with the beliefs of Islam are way past any accepted normal as far as I am concerned…
There also was no parental notification, and students were required to attend.
Those marvelous folks that make it their mission in life to right all wrongs, the ACLU, and every other moonbat civil rights organization, would be all over this if Christianity or Judaism were the required courses of studies, where is their faux outrage now??
I submit to you that we are not only seeing a violation of all accepted policies regarding public education in America, we are also seeing the hypocrisy of the left as they sit silent while the travesty that is Islam is allowed to be taught to our children…

You wondered what would have happened if it was Christianity or Judaism? Well, I’ll tell you - the liberals would have had the ACLU all over this like white on rice. There would have been a lawsuit filed by nightfall, and the Principal would have been tarred and feathered for allowing it.
As it is, she needs to have her actions investigated, since she has broken many laws here, (right or wrong, it’s still the law) and as far as no prayer in schools? Hah! As long as there are tests, there will be prayer…

It is however OK for Muslims in the US to demand equal treatment in everything and in many cases more than equal treatment. If Iraq is going to be this ’shining light of democracy’ in the ‘big cat box’ why isn’t freedom of religion being practiced?
I vote we scrap the whole taxpayer supported system. Property taxes would sure drop, and folks with kids could pay for the type of education they want their children to have. Instead, we’ve got a bunch of weasels shoving garbage down our kids throats. As a result, we’ve got a lot of little robots touting “the party line”.
I don’t agree with Kate. A free public education has been the backbone of American Democracy.The trouble with education in America is that it is controlled by left-wing, anti-religion fanatics. The Judeo-Christian values that our forefathers instilled in the nation are to be considered outdated and racist. Instead the religion of Multiculturalism and Secularism is to be taught. These are without a moral value, and compromise a parents right to instill in their children the values and religion of their choice.Since the early 1970′s, this way of thinking has been taught. And what have we gotten from it? Poor test scores, poor basic skills in reading, writing and arithmetic, but our children do have good self-esteem. How can they not considering that nobody is allow to fail or be left behind. It might harm their psyche.ÂÂ
I beg to disagree Katie. Free? There’s nothing free about the public education system. It is one of the most wasteful use of tax dollars to come down the pike. We spend more and more, yet get less and less.
Personally I don’t see how its the job of government to educate our children. Government certainly isn’t equipped for the job and thus do bad job of it.
How is it that for over 150 years Free Education had taught generations of Americans reading, writing and arithmetic and yet today they cannot? And they did it on the public dollar. They taught love for the country. It was only when the crazy leftists got control of the educational system that problems aroused.One doesn’t take into account that the children of the poor will not receive any education if Free Education would be eliminated. Have you priced what a private school costs? Even with vouchers, it is out of the reach of the poor. Thus we would create a class of uneducated, unskilled people. Not good for a society that needs highly educated people for a technological world.I attended a public school and received an excellent education. But when I started school, one had to obey certain rules: No talking back to the teacher (the woodshed would result), Do your homework, No gum chewing, and you had to be very respectful to your teacher.
Katie, they’re called unions, and they’ve destroyed the NOT FREE public education. I don’t mean to be rude, but what part of TAXPAYER FUNDED do you not get? 150 years ago, communities pooled their resources and paid to bring a teacher in to teach their kids, usually in the church. They provided a roof and a stipend. There were no excessive benefits, no retirement packages for the duration of their lives. So, what is it you really want? Turn the clock back 50 years, or 150? Ain’t gonna happen! Scrap the system, start from scratch, return control to the parents. Why is it that home schooled and those schooled in private schools, like Christian schools, always score higher on achievement tests? The problem with government schools is they’re not “public” but government run.  When the parents want a Christmas play put on depicting the birth of Christ and the school refuses, you tell me if they’re public or not.ÂÂ
Home schooled and private schools give more teacher time to each child. That’s the problem with the public schools. Too many students and too few teachers. A lot of it is the fact that public schools are being forced to teach the children in this nation illegally. Take them out of the equation and the quality of education goes way up.“I would rather pay for the education of a child now than the incarceration of the adult later.â€�?And how is that working out for ya? The thing about allowing organized prayer in the schools is this:If you allow Christians to have prayer openly, then the Muslims can demand the right to have prayers on Fridays. To keep the Muslims out, you have to keep everyone out. Otherwise they (the Muslims) will scream in the courts that you have established a religion. And the court would side with them.What CAIR and the school did was against the Law. And they should be penalized for it. The Supreme Court case is Wallace v. I’m not in La La Land. And until you can get the 9 on the Court to change Wallace v. Jaffree you will not be able to get organized prayer in the schools. If you had read the court’s decision it says:(b) One of the well-established criteria for determining the constitutionality of a statute under the Establishment Clause is that the statute must have a secular legislative purpose. Lemon v. Kurtzman, 403 U.S. 602, 612 -613. The First Amendment requires that a statute must be invalidated if it is entirely motivated by a purpose to advance religion. Pp. 55-56.

Now where in those two paragraphs did it say anything about the school checking with the courts? If the kids had balked, and refused to go along with this sort of indoctrination, the outcome might have been vastly different. But since the schools have been pulling this type of crap a lot since 9/11, kids have been brainwashed into thinking this is ok, the school says so.
