ACLU reports complaint from graduation guest
May 21st, 2007 . by TexasFredA guest at one of the high school graduation ceremonies in Ouachita Parish has contacted the Louisiana American Civil Liberties Union to complain about religious activities at a public event, Executive Director Joe Cook said Thursday.
The person, whom Cook would not identify, was not related to any of the graduates. “We still entertained the complaint but would like to have a relative or a student,” Cook said. “In this particular case, they were very disturbed by what happened.”
Here’s a suggestion, get UN-disturbed, I also attended a graduation in Louisiana, last Thursday night, and there was an invocation and we ALL recited the Pledge of Allegiance, but you know what, I didn’t see one solitary soul hold a gun on ANYONE and make them participate, it was an elective participation, and I am pretty sure that while some may have been disappointed if their guests or loved ones hadn’t taken part, I doubt anyone would have been ostracized, at least not there at the graduation…
Following a direction by the Ouachita Parish School system, seniors at the six high schools in the parish voted to determine whether prayer would be a part of each graduation ceremony.
All six schools voted to have prayer led by a student. The vote for prayer was unanimous by the students at Ouachita Parish High School.
And that last line says it ALL, the vote to have a prayer was unanimous, get over it, it’s their graduation, it’s their ceremony, it’s their school and this asshat making the complaint was nothing more than a guest…
I am not a particularly religious person, not in the sense that I am going to run off to some church every time the doors are open, and I am not going to try and force you to accept my particular religious beliefs, and I expect the same from you, but I’m not going to try and disrupt ANY Christian prayer service either, I will participate and appreciate the beliefs of others…
And if I can’t participate in good faith, I will have the dignity to either ignore what I find offensive, and in this case I see nothing to be offended over, or I’ll walk out and go MY way…
One woman was allowed to remove prayer from schools, when do millions get to put it back??

THE GOAL IS COMMUNISM
~ ROGER BALDWIN FOUNDER OF THE ACLU
Interesting …..
One of the things that I immediately noticed about Texas when I moved here - I can pray.
The kids even mentioned - hey, in school, at sporting events … there is in fact a kid designated on the boy’s team to lead invocation … in CA we weren’t even able to have a moment of silence.
I hope they never move away from here.
The ACLU is out of control. As usual, they impose their beliefs on the general populace while removing the majority’s rights and priveleges.
I’ve opted not to participate in some things in the past. I’ve walked out of presentations, events and meetings in the past. I’ve chosen not to attend certain events or to cut short my attendance before.
I’ve done these things on my own volition. I’ve done these things because I didn’t want to participate, observe, recognize, entertain, respect certain activities or events that were taking place at the time. I’ve done these things without attracting any real attention to myself, without offending those around me.
I didn’t need a pack of money grubbing, soul less attorneys to “represent” my minority beliefs at the time. Obviously, I was in the minority at some of these events and, respective of that, I chose to remove myself from the event rather than diss the whole event.
When will this ever end?
ACLU— Go to hell!
ACLU = Activist Commie Liberal Unionizers
Well Mike, I am not so respectful, this was a MAJORITY vote, by the KIDS, NOT the school, can’t you READ??Â
And in THIS nation, majority used to be the rule, and anyone that has a problem with some high school kids saying a brief prayer, not leading a revival, not trying to convert the masses, just a brief invocation, is some kind of asshole nut-bag and they can exercise their right to get the hell OUT of the ceremony, and THIS blog for all I care…
IMO, The minute the ACLU decided that God shouldn’t be allowed in schools, is the same minute OUR nation began it’s downturn.
The Other Mike: A clear vote was held, the MAJORITY of kids wanted to invoke their religion in celebration of their accomplishment. The thank GOD for their achievements which is admirable.
Your reasoning is skewed because of “constitutional” issues.
Our founding fathers were religious men (most) they invoked religion several times in their writings and Freedom of Religion is one of things that makes our country great.
YOU are the type of idiot that allows the ACLU to take a minority opinion and turn it in to law to protect the sensitive. Damn that! Put God back in schools and see if we can’t turn the violence around that the ACLU has so effectively defended.
IMO, when the ACLU ceases to exist, America can start healing from the ACLU disease.
I agree with Robert. It’s been downhill ever since.
Fred you are right, the main point is the school voted and the majority wins.
The issue here is the practice of changing the majority for the comfort of the minority. People used to be taught to act how Fred describes, if it bothers you, just IGNORE IT! Now, however, they are taught that if something bothers them, that their “rights” have been violated. WHAT ABOUT MY RIGHT TO RELIGIOUS FREEDOM? Which right trumps the other? Does my right to religious freedom (which IS in the bill of rights) count more, or does the other guy’s “right” to “not be offended” (which is NOT in any of the founding documents) trump mine?
Mike S won’t be commenting here anymore, anyone that thinks they will come into MY blog and tell me that a bunch of kids wanting to say a prayer before their graduation ceremony is wrong can KISS my big Texas ass…
They have every bit as much right to SAY their prayer and not be harassed FOR it as the asshole that claims to be offended does to get the hell up and leave…
Mike S, you’re history dude, go find some other blog to troll…
