Police official: 3 officers killed in Pa. shooting

PITTSBURGH (AP) - A man opened fire on officers during a domestic disturbance call Saturday morning, killing three of them, a police official said. Friends said he feared the Obama administration was poised to ban guns.

Three officers were killed, said a police official at the scene who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media. Police spokeswoman Diane Richard would only say that at least five officers were wounded, but wouldn’t give any other details.

Police planned to release more details at a mid-afternoon news conference Saturday.

The man who fired at the officers was arrested after a several-hour standoff. One witness reported hearing hundreds of shots.

The shootings occurred just two weeks after four police officers were fatally shot March 21 in Oakland, Calif., in the deadliest day for U.S. law enforcement since Sept. 11, 2001.

Police did not immediately release the gunman’s identity, but his friends at the scene described him as a young man who thought the Obama administration would ban guns.

Police official: 3 officers killed in Pa. shooting

This entire story STINKS all to HELL and back. First and foremost, I want to extend our deepest sympathies to the families of the slain and wounded officers. Your loved ones were doing the job they loved and made the ultimate sacrifice. God bless them each and every one!

One friend, Edward Perkovic, said the gunman feared “the Obama gun ban that’s on the way” and “didn’t like our rights being infringed upon.” Another longtime friend, Aaron Vire, said he feared that President Obama was going to take away his rights, though he said he “wasn’t violently against Obama.”

OK, right here is where I call BULLSHIT on the MSM and this kind of reporting. The MSM is doing everything in their power to support Obama and Company and some loony-toons idiot like this shooter plays right into their hands.

No SANE and RESPONSIBLE gun owner is happy about what we see shaping up to be the biggest gun grab this world has seen in years. This dysfunctional idiot has done something no SANE person would have done if these reports are ANY kind of accurate. He attacked police officers over his own insecurity.

This idiot is NOT indicative of the American gun owner. This person is crazy. I guess no one saw that something had snapped in the guy. Maybe no one wanted to see it.

Sadly, all I know is that 3 officers are dead, and the gun owners of this nation just took another serious shot to the head. WE didn’t do it, but you can bet your ass that the anti-gun crowd will be screaming their heads off about banning ALL guns.

The shooter, Richard Poplawski, was arrested following a long standoff. Somehow that gives me NO peace. After the Oakland officers were murdered the Oakland PD took the murdering bastard OUT. Fourth Oakland police officer has died

The Pittsburgh PD lost 3 officers dead and 5 wounded, and didn’t…

    From the report:
One friend, Edward Perkovic, said the gunman feared “the Obama gun ban that’s on the way” and “didn’t like our rights being infringed upon.” Another longtime friend, Aaron Vire, said he feared that President Obama was going to take away his rights, though he said he “wasn’t violently against Obama.”

Fred, keep in mind the following possibilities:

    1) The MSM reporting this altered the “friend”‘s comments to show them in the worst possible light. Please notice the comments are taken out of context and not even complete. Please also note the report place the word “feared” into the description and didn’t included it in quotes. Right there red flags should have gone up as to the accuracy and fairness of this reporting.

    2) This “friend” may not have been a friend at all but an acquaintance or someone who barely knew the shooter. We only have the report’s claim that Edward Perkovic was a “friend” of the shooter. We only have the word of Mr. Perkovic that he was the shooter’s “best friend” but please note, the “journalist” did not indicate nor imply of any corroboration to confirm this claim. Finding multiple sources to make sure something is actually factual is what good journalists are taught to do but in today’s form of journalism, corroboration is something ignored. In the old days of journalism school, if one reported on something for a class assignment and didn’t corroborate their information, it was an automatic “F.” As far as we know Edward Perkovic may have been the shooter’s best friend but he could also be nothing more than a media whore wanting his 15-minutes of fame and willing to say anything to get it.

    3) Most of the larger media outlets are notoriously anti-gun and do whatever then can without putting themselves into a situation of civil liability to make guns, gun owners, the 2nd amendment and anything else pro-gun appear evil. A careful examination of this report shows the wording to be of a typical liberal, anti-gun bias.

I read the report via the link you provided and many things in the report seem to be questionable in their validity. I did a little online research on the name of the person in the by-line, Ramit Plushnick-Masti, and found a couple of reports claiming unethical behavior in reporting including being caught plagarising other reports word-for-word and claiming them as his/her own.

Please don’t think I am defending this shooter at all because I am not. My prayers and thoughts go out to the family, friends and co-workers of the officers killed in the line of duty.

The NY Times has an artilce just posted 1 hr ago and it doesn’t mention that he was concerned over an Obama gun ban. I’m sure they’d be happy to mention it if it were true.

“I knew there was always trouble there, a lot of domestic calls,” said Johann Devinney, who lives directly across the street and saw police cars at the house over the past few years. “But I thought it would never escalate.”

That’s why I was glad I caught the story from AP, I NEVER use the NYT, I don’t even read it, they are usually the real slime bags, but I guess AP beat em out this time…

Fred, I was just looking the stories over and found this, This MORON was dishonerably discharged from the marines, Therefore he was disqualified from owning any firearms! http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/09094/960662-455.stm So once again We (the law abiding citizens) are not the problem are you surprised? I am not!

Not surprised in the least… USMC Boot Camp has a way of weeding out those that don’t belong, but damn, I would love to know WHY he got a dishonorable in Boot Camp…

That took some doing in this day and time of a gentler and kinder DI…

I haven’t been able to find iit in print but it has been posted several places he was discharged after assaulting a Drill Sergeant, I am sure that would do it.

The bottom line here is that once again decent gun owners are being equated with those that are simply criminals.
