A *Call in Conservative* Protest

I found this over at
Conservative Libertarian Outpost, and I have got to tell you, Patrick is a good personal friend, but this post just lit me up!

Conservatives who love their country, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and human liberty have had enough. Word came last night that a massive protest is planned in order to send Washington a message.

On July 30, conservatives are ‘going Galt,’ named after Ayn Rand’s famous character John Galt from her novel Atlas Shrugged, and thus refuse to show up for work. They plan to ‘call in conservative.’

From the Eastside TeaParty blog:

On July 30th, Conservatives are “Going Galt?. On that date, we are asking Conservatives all across the nation to “Call in Conservative?. On July 30th, Conservatives will not work, we will not buy. Instead, we will spend time with our families and friends. We will show President Obama and Congress who REALLY drives this economy. For more information on “A Day Without Conservatives , contact Judson Phillips at [email protected]

The next quote is an EXACT copy of the email I just sent TO Judson Philips.

I wonder how many OUT OF WORK Conservatives are gonna not go in to, uh, wait.

Not go in to work?? The next day unemployment would be UP, a lot of businesses will be looking for new employees, this is a target rich environment. Folks are desperate for jobs.

I am not at all convinced that *calling in conservative* is a good thing, UNLESS, those that do, actually take to the streets in a concerted effort and massive PUBLIC protest.

If anyone thinks *calling in conservative* and then sitting on their fat asses at home is an effective protest, they need their heads examined.

OK, I am starting to seriously wonder if some TEA Party groups are getting too far out there in the WRONG direction.

Let me make this crystal clear, I want there to be NO misunderstanding; I am speaking for me on this post, NOT for the TEA Party group I belong to, this is NOT an official TEA Party post.

What I am, in MY opinion, is a concerned citizen asking a serious question. What the hell good is it going to do to miss work and stay at home? And what kind of so-called leadership would hatch such a lame-brained idea?

I am all for effective protest, but calling in to work, *Calling in Conservative*, and sitting at the house, or spending time with family and friends is NOT a protest. It a DAY OFF! It’s a day of LOST WAGES for many families that desperately need every penny they can lay hands on!

I ask ALL of you, honestly, do YOU think *Calling in Conservative* and sitting at home is an effective method of protest?

Personally, I think this is a LAME effort at best, nothing more than a *feel good* kind of thing, one of those ‘well, I did MY protest’ kind of things.

Look, if you’re going to protest, do it right, GET SOME ATTENTION!! Take it to the streets! Between now and July 30th you have plenty of time to organize. Get LOUD, get LARGE, get MEDIA coverage and by God, have a real PROTEST!

If you want to stay home and have a cozy little day with family and friends, OK, that’s great, do it, but don’t call it a PROTEST, unless that day with family and friends is spent in OPEN protest.

Sheesh, talk about sounding like a bunch of libber tree huggers. :?

Since I’m retired and WSM is out of work, we’re going to turn off ALL the light, sit in the living room and hold hands all day as we meditate…

THAT is some effective protesting.. :P

I’m with ya on this one, Fred. Before I even read your response I was already thinking how lame that is. Afterall, it is our work ethics as conservatives that help to define who we are. You are also right in that if you really want to mount an effective protest - you don’t do it by NOT going to work. We do it with our voices, blogs, and up front activism. I don’t see this “call in conservative” movement making any ground. This is as lame as that call in hispanic protest last year that didn’t work for the pro-amnesty people.

    GMTA! :D

I sent Judson an email a couple of days ago and asked him pretty much the same thing. It’s rather contrary to the conservative nature to be irresponsible. Obviously, I still haven’t heard back from him. :? I’ll be seeing him tomorrow so, hopefully, I’ll remember to ask him just how this sort of thing will help.

Thanks to my taxes, I have to “go galt” pretty much every day already.

Thanks to Feinstein, Boxer, Obama, Reid and the rest of the free-riders in DC.

That *Call in Hispanic* thing did work BoBo…

So many of em stayed home that day, crime rates went down substantially and carbon credits were cut in half, yards DID NOT get mowed that day…

I don’t know, I really liked the So Cal commute when the homos called in Gay, and the Mexicans had May-day. I’m sure there are a lot of conservatives like me who are thankful for our employment during these lean years, and many who would love to fill the voids created by left wing tactics.

Are these people losing their minds? They better check the economy before they suggest something like this. Let’s not forget it isn’t just a paycheck, it’s also putting peoples Medical and Dental Insurance on the line. I’m a stay at home mom and if my husband were to lose his job we’d sink fast. Just like most Americans.

We need to be Very careful not to make our Tea Parties sound like an Out of Control Crazy Cult.

I recommend the opposite. Go to Work, Provide for Your Families and be Thankful for every paycheck that goes into your bank. We need to be heard, not be silent and retreat to our homes.

That’s as silly as that “Day Without A Mexican” thing a few years back.

“I know how I’ll make a point,” The Dullard said. “I’ll make sure I lose a day’s wage. Boy, that’ll hurt them!”

I’ll probably get my butt flamed for this but I feel the same way about some of the Tea Party’s. They want to attend, have BBQ’s, singing and dancing, playing music, and a good time is had by all, then, they all go home. Meanwhile back at the whitehouse, they could give a rats ass what everybody did as long as it wasn’t disruptive towards their plans to ruin this nation and it’s core beliefs. As far as I’m concerned, the Tea Party’s are only going to start being effective when, the people start marching and protesting at a federal buildings etc., and start letting them see that the people mean to be heard and not just thought of as another bunch of tea baggers having a “hootenanny” for the weekend.

  10. comment number 10 by: TexasFred

You won’t get flamed by me Vigilante, I feel the same way…

The TEA Party gathering are a very necessary part of the equation, but they can’t be ALL there is. They MUST be followed up by ACTION…

Calling in Conservative is NOT an act of protest, it’s an act of sheer stupidity…

I wholeheartedly agree with you on this one Fred….did I actually type that?…..it doesn’t take any stretch of the imagination to have some dumbass “Call in Conservative” and not be missed by anyone including their boss….that will get you to the top of the “we have to cut back list”….too funny…..more so than that a lot of companies are using time off without pay to forestall any layoffs ….I can see someone using their unpaid leave as a Protest Day…the bottom line? Women in Iran have more balls than this….what protest? Who will notice some idiots staying home? More will probably enjoy the break…who thought this up?

Someone that makes Forrest Gump look like a rocket scientist… :?

I think Calling in “SICK” or whatever is a bad idea right now…. HOWEVER; If I was a business owner, I’d “Furlough” every employee I had for one day to send a message to Congress and the POTUS about how the economy works.

Calling in “Conservative” unless you are in a position of power, working for a conservative boss you may find your ass SOL.

  14. comment number 14 by: minuteman26

Want to protest, get some publicity and cause a stir. Form up in front of the local and national offices of ACORN and the SEIU. You know the ones responsible for most of the crap going on nowdays. Do unto them as they do to the banks etc. Just get ready to rumble. Beats sitting home on your ass.

Referring back to my comment at #3, this is what I sent to Judson:
Wouldn’t this be contrary to a Conservatives nature? I mean calling in conservative to miss work kind of goes against the grain for most conservatives, doesn’t it? Personal responsibility and all that.

This is what I received this afternoon back from him:
It does to a certain extent. But we need to send a message, not only to government but to business as well. Just my $.02!

Honestly, I don’t think this would be such a great message. Getting people involved with the Tea Parties is one thing. Asking them to jeopardize their livelihood is something else all together.

  16. comment number 16 by: TexasFred

Kate, actually, it really is a good idea, shutting the nation down is an awesome idea, my gripe is their take off, stay HOME and have a nice time with the friends and family bullshit..

That is the most wussified piece of shit excuse for a protest I have ever heard and you can tell him I said so when ya see him again…

    I HATE WUSSIES!!

Gee Fred, I would have never know that about ya! :P

If ever single conservative converged on D.C. on 9/12, shut down the whole shabang for as long as necessary….yeah….I could see it. Kind of hard to do though.

If it was easy, anyone could do it…

You DO know?? California will be in riot mode very soon…

IOU’s?? Ya can’t eat an IOU and Wal-Mart won’t sell you medicine on an IOU… People WILL take to the streets..

We are on the verge of open insurrection..

I’m a Conservative. My employer depends upon me to do my job to the best of my ability. I’m counted on to be there at the appropriate time and am a trusted employee. I don’t call in sick unless I’m actually sick and my employer knows it; no doctors excuse needed for me. As a Conservative, I have values and ethics and am accountable to those who have put their trust and faith in me. I spent my military career with those beliefs and I’ll do my civilian one that way too. I couldn’t call in Conservative because I am a Conservative.

Hey Kate send this to Judson:
ADP Estimates U.S. Companies Cut Payrolls by 473,000

The economy just keeps getting worse and they come up with this? How about we have Burn your Money Day? That’ll hurt em!!!!

Maybe I’m just paranoid about the economy? ha

(I understand it is against the law to damage money and only said that to make a point, besides that I don’t have any to burn, I have a teenager).

  23. comment number 23 by: Vigilante

I think everyone here is pretty much in agreement, that calling in “conservative” is about the same as doing NOTHING except giving your self a day off W/O pay and pissin the boss off because he’s depending on you to be there. I know, because I AM a boss. If you called in and told me you were taking a day off to raise hell down at the federal building, I’d either join ya, or I’d pay you for your day off. I might even bail you out because I would know that you had pissed SOMEBODY off by protesting. ……LOL

  24. comment number 24 by: Orangelion

Who thought up this? Some out of work left wing loon?

  25. comment number 25 by: Patrick Sperry

    *chuckles*

Alright folks… Fred knows me, and he is more than aware of my methodologies. As noted, I re-posted that from Anthony. A very decent and upright fellow IMNSHO.

There are times when I simply try to get people to think… I mean to actually think!

I saw this as like, well. Hey Sarge, I think that maybe we should do this (fill in the blank.) Then a Master Sergeant says, well yeah, but… (fill in the blank.) Then someone fills in the Top, and he comes over, listens, says okay but (fill in the blank.) A Butter Bar wonders by, and volunteers to lead… He tells a Captain about it, and the Captain go’s oh crap! Where the hell is the Gunny’s input? The Major over hears all this, and sits back mumbling… The Light Bird finds out about it, the way that they always do, and tells the Colonel.

The Colonel walks out and says to all the troops; Get this thing figured out, the Bird is busy kissing ass. Consider this a warning order.

This is the thing as I see it. Economics is warfare, and this would hurt the commie’s that are running the show. But? As it stands, it will have no true effect. Would it send a message? Perhaps, but I myself doubt that it would. At least not of any meaningful way.

I think that this could be a useful tool. But, it needs a few Gunny’s and Sergeants Majors. This is, after all a grass roots thing. Any Colonels out there that would like to contribute? A Captain or twenty would be nice too…

Actually, Judson has been working his hinder off getting people motivated with the Middle Tennessee people, Tea Parties, and trying to bring people together, so no, he’s not a left wing type at all. Actually, a really nice guy, who is just as mad as the rest of us. :?

  27. comment number 27 by: TexasFred

Sure has a funny way of expressing *anger*… Got a lot to learn about PROTEST…

  28. comment number 28 by: Kate

I suppose he’s trying to come up ways to make an impact, peacefully. I just don’t agree with this one. He’s also trying to help people learn how to survive when thing get really rocky, making the effort to get classes formed, etc.

  29. comment number 29 by: TexasFred

Kate, he may be doing a lot of good WE don’t see, but ya gotta admit, to call for a *Call in Conservative* thing, to call it a PROTEST, and then say “we will spend time with our families and friends”, well, that sounds like someone that’s seriously lite in the loafers…

Peaceful resistance?? That’s great, if you’re Gandhi maybe… This nation was born of revolution, revolution may well be what saves her…

Sometimes ya just gotta *MAN UP*…

    Just sayin’…

  30. comment number 30 by: Kate

Yeah….which is why when I saw that, I had to ask the purpose. I’m in total agreement with ya. Red letter date, eh? LOL We’ve been peaceful, and it’s gotten us the one finger wave from D.C. as they go along their merry way, destroying everything that our forefathers fought and died for….along with many young men and women standing proud now, and the millions of veterans who are getting the shaft from these….scum.
