UN Inspectors Find Chemical in UN Office

August 30th, 2007 . by TexasFred

UNITED NATIONS (AP) - U.N. weapons inspectors discovered potentially hazardous chemical agents in their office near U.N. headquarters that were probably taken from Iraq’s main chemical weapons facility 11 years ago, officials said Thursday.

“There is no immediate risk or danger,” U.N. deputy spokeswoman Marie Okabe said.

She said there was no evacuation of the office of the U.N. Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission known as UNMOVIC, about a block north of U.N. headquarters on Manhattan’s east side, and U.S. authorities were called in to dispose of the material.

Okabe said one of the substances, identified Wednesday, was phosgene suspended in oil, “whose present state is unknown but which could be potentially hazardous.”

Phosgene can be used as a chemical weapon - and was used extensively in World War I - as a choking agent. Both phosgene gas and liquid can damage skin, eyes, nose, throat and lungs.Full Story Here:

I’ll be damned, there really are WMDs, and it only took the U.N. 11 years to find them, in their own offices…

No wonder these incompetent asshats can’t get anything accomplished in the world, they can’t even keep their own offices straight…

Maybe I owe Bush an apology, I mean, they were WMDs, he wasn’t totally full of crap, he just had his time frame all wrong, and attacked the wrong place, we should have sent the troops into the U.N. Headquarters…

I’ll bet Saddam would be relieved to know that huh??

Nothing the U.N. does would surprise me. I just wish they’d do it in some other country.

Definately should of sent in some troops, condemned it, took a wrecking ball to it, then bulldozed it into oblivion.
