La. Gov. declares emergency ahead of hurricane Ida

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Hurricane Ida, the first Atlantic hurricane to target the United States this year, plodded Sunday toward the Gulf Coast with 100 mph winds, bringing the threat of flooding and storm surges.

A hurricane watch extended over more than 200 miles of coastline across southeastern Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and the Florida Panhandle. Louisiana’s governor declared a state of emergency.

Authorities said Ida could make landfall as early as Tuesday morning, although it was forecast to weaken by then. Officials and residents kept a close eye on the Category 2 hurricane as it approached, though there were no immediate plans for evacuations.

At 1 p.m. EST, Ida was located 510 miles south-southeast of the mouth of the Mississippi River and moving northwest near 10 mph. The latest forecast from the National Hurricane Center shows Ida brushing near Louisiana and Mississippi, then making landfall near Alabama before continuing across north Florida.

The Dems in this nation need to pay very close attention here. A Cat 2 hurricane *may* hit S.E. Louisiana with a glancing blow and Gov. Bobby Jindal sets the wheels in motion BEFORE there is ANY kind of strike, BEFORE there is ANY death and/or flooding and the state goes into preparation mode. All for a Category 2 hurricane.

Isn’t it amazing? The difference between a level headed Conservative Governor and a Democrap moonbat that sat on her fat ass in Baton Rouge while a Cat 5 took dead aim on, and very nearly destroyed New Orleans?

Hang in there Louisiana, you have GREAT leadership and the 256th BCT is still home!

If the Dems had done anything even remotely close to this when Katrina was bearing down on New Orleans, the state of Louisiana would have been much better off. But, they are Dems, you just can’t expect this kind of pre-staged planning when all they know is *victim mentality*.

Beats the hell out of the Katrina fiasco for sure. FEMA et al, cannot, by law, go in until they are invited by the declaration of an emergency.

How many days after that fact did that take? Not to mention they are still blaming Bush for the delay…

Yep…the only things the Democrat Leaders in Louisiana planned was how to spend the tax payers money and other federal funds to make them more powerful…to hell with the little guy. I think their only advice at that time was ” Sink or Swim “….or…’ Every man for himself ‘

I like Bobby Jindal. Although Louisiana desperately needs him, I sure hope he makes a run for the White House, either POTUS or vice, in 2012. This nation needs those like him.

………and they’er still spending tax payers money, and will for years to come. I am so g’dmd fed up with the corruption in government, that, I am about ready to go postal myself. No matter who is elected,
they soon fall through the cracks and become as crooked as the ones they replaced. Term limits don’t mean shit when we get jerked around this way. We need to start over from scratch, and I do mean scratch.

It helps that Bobby Jindal isn’t dumb. He knows that even with modern satellite techniques to warn people, a weather professional still can’t tell you any more than “a guess” as to where the hurricane will strike (make landfall) and at what strength. A young boy scout could of done more to prepare than the Dems did for Katrina. Incredible. But as you said TF, the Dems do love clinging to their victimhood.

You struck on something here Fred, the Democrats always like to point the finger after the fact, but seldom step to the plate before tragedy strikes. That is always their stance on the military(cutting funding to the bone in peace time and leaving us ill prepared for future conflicts, then when one comes trying to blame others for us not being ready). Its an old unending story with these rascals. All they favor are more government programs they hope will buy them votes in the next election from that part of an igorant populas who always has their hands out and their stupid heads up their ass. The world is full of these people who sit and wait for the government to give them “what they think is owed to them” and these people will never get out of the storm, because they feel protected by “big brother”. A big brother who could care less about them, that is until the next election comes around.

I declared an emergency last night the minute Anh “Joseph” Cao voted for Wealth Share. This bastard can’t be allowed to win another term. In fact, I hope his house gets destroyed tomorrow. Oh…wait…he’ll get FEMA funding to rebuild before anyone else. Yeah. Well maybe he’ll also end up in the bottom of a bayou.

Am I being too mean, Fred?

I have the entire list of Yay votes… planning on making my hit list, uh, er… I mean “Excel spreadsheet action list” for 2010 tomorrow!
Just as a side opinion Dr. Dave, I thought you were uncharacteristically humane in your comment considering this was the Lone booger eating, RINO who helped sell “We the People” down the tubes!!!! Kind of smells like… treason!!!!

I do believe that the word “treason” will be associated more and more with any healthcare or cap-n-tax bill issued.
