Seattle police kill suspect in officer slayings

SEATTLE (AP) - The man suspected of gunning down four police officers in a suburban coffee shop was shot and killed by a lone patrolman investigating a stolen car early Tuesday. Four people were arrested for allegedly helping the suspect elude authorities during a massive two-day manhunt.

Maurice Clemmons was carrying a handgun he took from one of the dead officers when a Seattle policeman recognized him near a stolen car in a working-class south Seattle neighborhood about 2:45 a.m., Assistant Police Chief Jim Pugel said.

The vehicle was running but unoccupied when the officer pulled up, radioed in the license plate number and realized the car was stolen, Pugel said.

The officer saw something moving, got out of his car, saw Clemmons and ordered him to show his hands and stop.

“He wouldn’t stop,” Pugel said. “The officer fired several rounds.”

I can already hear the cries from the weak-minded bleeding hearts, “But he was a good boy, he had a turrible childhood and he didn’t mean ta kill all a dems POlice. He was just tryin’ to turn his sef in to dat Seattle POliceman and dat POliceman went an murdered the brother, fo nuffin!”

Count on it! It WILL be said…

Police planned to arrest more people who helped Clemmons.

“We expect to have maybe six or seven people in custody by the day’s end,” said Ed Troyer, a spokesman for the Pierce County sheriff. “Some are friends, some are acquaintances, some are partners in crime, some are relatives. Now they’re all partners in crime.”

Three people were booked into the Pierce County Jail on Monday and early Tuesday for investigation of rendering criminal assistance on four counts of first-degree murder. They are Ricky Hinton, Eddie Lee Davis and Douglas Edward Davis. Troyer said a getaway driver also was arrested. That person’s identity wasn’t immediately known.

A getaway driver? This is sounding more and more like a PLANNED attack.

That has been my suspicion from the start. You just don’t see a bunch of cop cars and decide to walk in and kill all of them. There was some strategy and planning that went into this. This guy, and his cohorts, put some serious planning into their heinous deed.

Authorities say Clemmons, 37, singled out the Lakewood officers and spared employees and other customers at the coffee shop Sunday morning in Parkland, a Tacoma suburb about 35 miles south of Seattle. He then fled, but not before one of the dying officers apparently shot him in the torso.

“I’m surprised that he managed to get away,” Troyer said. “The officer did a good job in Lakewood.”

I am NOT about to denigrate these deceased officers, but I saw a news report that had a sketch layout of the coffee shop and stated that all 4 officers were seated in a semi-circular booth, one that only gave ANY immediate egress to the officers on the outside. If that is true, I am guessing that the Lakewood Police Department will soon have some new departmental policies regarding the actions of officers when meeting on duty, in uniform. And I believe that they should.

“We do not believe that the Lakewood officers were actually targeted other than that they were police officers in that location at the time where he knew he could find police officers.”

That may be well and true, these individual officers may not have been a specific target, but I am still of the belief that Clemmons did some serious planning and that his only desire was to kill police officers.

Maurice Clemmons may very well have been certifiably crazy. He may have had a difficult childhood. There may have been many things that happened in his life that led him to a life of crime and ultimately, to the murders of the Lakewood officers, but there is one thing that is an absolute certainty, he will NOT be doing it again!

Good riddance. More “people of interest” should be shot on sight.

Glad the dirtbag is dead. Now he will get his judgement day by the Highest Power…may he burn in Hell !!!

Yep Fred…I can see all the protest now over the death of this piece of scum. ” Poor Innocent Black Man Shot by White Racist Police Officer”.

I’m just glad they saved a lot of money ( hospital care, jail time. lawyer fee, court cost, and execution cost, plus burial ). In my opinion they need to take his body to the local dump…isn’t that what they do with trash??

This was a planned hit, absolutely no doubt. The officers may have been a target of opportunity, but some planning went into it. May have been only minutes or perhaps days. Many questions left to be answered in the days ahead—the judge who set bail so low for this piece of sh*t and why did Huckabee issue 703 clemencies from 1996-2000 while Texas a much larger state only had 98 and another state bordering Arkansas, Mississippi had only 24. What was going on Gov. Huckabee? Why were “get of jail cards” being passed out to scum like Clemmons! One thing for sure the patrolman who shot this killer won’t have to buy a drink for a long, long time.

Actually, Huck commuting that sentence didn’t cause this, the guy broke parole and went back to jail to finish the sentence…

Huck’s record of handing out commutations is the problem, far too many of them, but to be fair, Huck didn’t cause this at all…

But his prior record should influence any future office he may try to achieve, we don’t need a bleeding heart preacher in the White House…

Yep, you can bank on it. I would like to see some of these “bleeding leftard hearts” look the children, parents and spouses of these officers in the eye and give their stupid excuses for this evil POS!!! There is no excuse for anyone taking the life of police officers who take on protecting others (a tough job and no one gets rich doing it!). I’m glad the evil nutbag is dead and will hurt no one else! May he rot in Hell and may those who helped him rot in jail!!!!

    A couple of points:

If we had a true system of punishment in this country, I would far prefer this dirtbag to be alive, tried, convicted and sentenced to life at hard labor, living in a spider hole similar to that in which Saddam Hussein was found hiding.

Huckabee explains the entire scenario on NewsMax, and that tells me that he didn’t do anything out of the ordinary in this case, and that he made relatively few commutations. Unless he’s spinning or lying.

Personally I like Gov. Huckabee, but not as a candidate. Yes, Clemmons did break parole, however if he hadn’t been out that would have never happened, but then we could go on and on about this. Clemmons is too blame, not his mamma, not his dad if he knew him, not the Gov., and not the judge in Washington state who set the bail too low. Ultimately Clemmons will face the final judgement for his acts. I am sure however, that those others involved will review their actions and maybe learn something. Laws need to be tightened.

He is dead - justice was served. Would have been nice to have him on trial to at least hear why he did it, but none the less, justice was served.

  9. comment number 9 by: Patrick Sperry

He’s dead, and that’s good enough for me. But, yeah, the race card will get pulled in short order. Of that I am sure.

  10. comment number 10 by: Vigilante

I’m glad he bit the big one, now we don’t have to put up with al sharpton and his sidekick jessah trying to play the race card
against 4 white racist cops that gunned down a brutah of islam. I’s was just trying to gets me some coffee on my way to prayer meeting. It just saved the taxpayers 60-80,000 a year to house and feed this piece of garbage, plus, all the little 12 year old girls don’t have to worry as much anymore, from him anyway.

I got my answer on the BP vests. He shot them in the head.
Now, put his accomplices in jail for awhile.

  11. comment number 11 by: extex_cop

Yep…way too many get out of jail too soon. Plus a lot of the jail time is too easy…almost a ‘Country Club’…which needs to change. If things were harder on them…then most would not want to go back.
Has anyone seen the ‘old’ prison near Yuma, Az? The cells are dug out areas in the side of a rock cliff, with iron bars. No bed, blankets, or chairs…just a poop bucket. During the day it’s hotter than Hell…and at night the temp drops so low they think they will freeze to death…since they only have the clothes on their backs…no blankets. Of course that was how it was in the Old West Days….too many bleeding hearts gave this guys more rights and better food and medical treatment than a lot of people have here in the USA.

    Justice done. Few further costs.

    End of statement.

I am glad he is dead, but he should have died in jail. Thank you Mike Huckabee.

  14. comment number 14 by: TexasFred

Mr Pink Eyes, as much as I would love to assign blame, Huckabee is NOT to blame here, not in ANY way, at least not for the deaths of the officers…

What may have transpired in the interim period, I have no idea regarding all the details, but Huckabee can’t be blamed for this particular incident…

  15. comment number 15 by: Pawdog

Agreed Fred. The blame for this murderous rampage rests on the POS Clemmons and the family and friends who aided and abetted him before, during and after the attack.

He had many, many chances to change his life and decided to continue being a worthless, scum-sucking deviant, who should have died at the hands of his victims family and friends……

  16. comment number 16 by: Always On Watch

I haven’t kept up with the news lately.

I do fully expect to see the race card played on this one — never mind the FACTS.

  17. comment number 17 by: ng4779

Good riddance is correct. I hope his “helpers” get some justice as well. Oh my, is that racist?

  18. comment number 18 by: Dick Robie

Racist????What has race got to do with murder. Too bad other murderers and killers who do kids dont go that way. Too bad the guy in Texas with a IQ hovering around 70 didnt go that way-save the Taxpayers lots of money-of course whatever we save Obama, Pelosi and Reid will spend.
