Giuliani Defends Right to Bear Arms

September 25th, 2007 . by TexasFred

NEW YORK (AP) - Rudy Giuliani, who called for tough gun control as New York’s mayor, said Tuesday the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and a recent court ruling on personal liberties framed his current outlook defending a right to bear arms.

“You have to look at all of these issues in light of the different concerns that now exist, which is terrorism, the terrorists’ war on us,” the Republican presidential contender told The Associated Press in an interview.

He added that his thinking also was influenced by a federal appeals court’s decision this year to overturn a 30-year-old ban on private ownership of handguns in Washington.

“It is a very, very strong description of how important personal liberties are in this country and how we have to respect them,” he said of the ruling.

Has Rudy experienced an epiphany?? Has he seen the light of RIGHT and freedom?? Or is he a pandering politico looking for votes??

It’s pretty easy to run off at the mouth and make all kinds of promises that you have no intention of keeping when you’re trying to acquire the highest office in the land, and it’s even easier to reverse your statements if and when you do ascend to that office…

It has been my personal experience that a leopard doesn’t change his spots, and I seriously doubt that Rudy has changed his, and I don’t trust ANYONE that suddenly sees the light if you will, changing sides that fast throws up all kinds of red flags for me, I believe he’s just found a way to grab some attention with a hot button issue for conservatives and Repubs and remains a RINO bordering on becoming a full blown libber, that’s my opinion of it…

Are you sure he didn’t say that he defends the right to Arm Bears?

I’m a retired 25 year vet of the NYPD. Believe me when I tell you that Giuliani is not a friend of the Second Amendment. His choices as NYPD Commissioners were all strict anti-gunners, and his policies aimed right at the heart of the right to keep and bear arms.

One of the few ways one could obtain a license to carry (or own) a weapon in NYC during Giuliani’s term was to be a “celebrity”. Joe Average … forget it - ain’t happening. Even retired NYPD officers had a problem getting a license to carry concealed in NYC until the state stepped in and ordered statewide carry to retired officers - over-ruling NYC’s “Endorsement” policy that said an officer retiring from the NYPD who did not live within the 5 boroughs had to go through the entire application process, pay $300 in fees, be fingerprinted BY the agency they served for at least 20 years, and they MIGHT grant you the coveted “endorsement” allowing you to carry within the area they honorably served. When I retired in 1994, I told them to stick their endorsement where the sun don’t shine, and I haven’t been back to NYC since.

And don’t even start on his habit of having affairs with staffers and others while still married. Think the fact his two kids hate his guts and support Obamaramadingdong is an accident?

Giuliani’s a putz and a liar. If enough people let him pull the wool over their eyes and he gets the nomination … we’re in trouble.

I wouldn’t trust ol Rudy as far as I could throw him…

I think you hit it on the head “Pandering Politico” is exactly his game. I would at least respect him if he stayed with his views in public and private… leave the flip flopping to the Dems… oops he is a Dem in Rep clothes.

Bruce: I’ll take your word over Rudy’s any day.

Thanks for the first hand info Bruce. I wouldn’t trust Rudy with my firearms at all. He’s saying what we want to hear. Fortunately for us, his record speaks for itself.

The more I learn about him the more I don’t like him. This guy can’t be trusted. He has more faces then Mt. Rushmore.

His speech left enough wiggle room for him to change his position if he gets elected…he hasn’t changed.

He’s a damn liar, and as you suggested: “a pandering politico looking for votes.”

Well, dog gone it, all the above sounds like what I was saying to Fred well over a year ago about the man. He will say, or do, what ever it takes to get elected.
