Tiger Woods: Sorry for behavior, unsure of return

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Tiger Woods apologized for cheating on his wife and says he is unsure when he will return to competitive golf.

“I was unfaithful. I had affairs. I cheated. What I did was not acceptable,” said Woods, looking composed and speaking in a steady voice. His wife, Elin, was not with him.

As for coming back to the PGA Tour, the planet’s best golfer said: “I do plan to return to golf one day. I just don’t know when that day will be. I don’t rule out it will be this year.”

Woods talked for more than 13 minutes Friday from the clubhouse at the TPC Sawgrass, home of the PGA Tour. About 40 people were in the room, including his mother. He hugged her when he finished speaking, and she whispered in his ear.

Tiger Woods: Sorry for behavior, unsure of return

The intense attention being paid to the Tiger Woods story, the mea culpa, and all the *Tiger Hype* that goes along with it, is this a real indicator, a testament of where the priorities of Americans lie? Or is this just further proof that the news media in America is totally IN THE TANK?

And I include the mostly Conservative FOX News Network in this indictment. They dedicated 13 minutes to the full, for lack of a better term, press conference, and then untold minutes of commentary following the initial piece.

Here is, basically, what Tiger Woods really said: SPIN SPIN SPIN apologize SPIN SPIN SPIN placate the sponsors SPIN SPIN SPIN grovel SPIN SPIN SPIN voice anger at the press SPIN SPIN SPIN placate the sponsors a bit more SPIN SPIN SPIN mention the fans SPIN SPIN SPIN mention my mother and play *the sympathy card* SPIN SPIN SPIN defend Elin SPIN SPIN placate the sponsors SPIN SPIN SPIN mention the PGA too SPIN SPIN SPIN dangle the carrot of returning to golf SPIN SPIN SPIN I’ll never do it again! I promise. Really. Thank you very much…

Sadly, the Lamestream Media calls this BS a real NEWS story.

Our economy is in the tank. Our government has descended into the depths of the abyss and is nothing less than a socialist debacle. Our troops are fighting and dying in a Global War on Terror that our Muslim in Chief refuses to call TERROR or a WAR. Our kids can’t bow their heads in prayer at a football game. GOD isn’t allowed into any part of our public lives and America is in more trouble than at any time in our history.

And Tiger Woods is the lead story on every media outlet in America?

Congress had endless hearings over steroid use in baseball. They want to address the confusion that is the BCS.

There is a morbid fascination with pop stars and sports figures. Let me tell you something, for the most part, these pop stars and sports figures don’t give a damn about you, your life, your personal tragedy or anything connected TO you or yours. Yet many Americans worship, yes, WORSHIP these people as if they were gods.

The Lamestream Media gives them TOP billing.

Make no mistake about it, I’m a sports fan. I love NFL and College Football, especially the SEC. I love NASCAR too, but I don’t worship ANY of them. I don’t put any of this ahead of my love for America, our troops and our way of life. These folks are celebrities and athletes, they are not necessarily the leaders of this nation and are not, barring Pat Tillman, rest in peace, serving on the front lines of the Global War on Terror!

Americans need to assess their priorities I believe. As does the news media!

How many in-depth stories did you see from the MSM today covering the death of a soldier or a police officer that went down in the line of duty?

If one of these sports or pop icons gets so much as a hang nail, we get at least 24 hours of uninterrupted news coverage. What’s wrong with THAT picture?

Kind of like when Michael Jackass died. He was the focus for 3 weeks, during which we lost close to 30 troops in the War on Terror, for which not a word was mentioned. The priorities and values of the MSM and the public that supports them suck.

Gawd. he is absolutely pathetic. What a crybaby! That is some role model for his kids.

  3. comment number 3 by: An Apology?

Texas Fred has a pretty good take on the obsession of the media, and the apology.

I didn’t watch the show today-turned off the “tube” soon as the spin and hype began. Sadly Fred most people in this country like to watch this crap and the networks know it and cater to the viewers for the ratings and the money that follows the rating from the sponsors. I could care less about Tigers private life or how he hits the golf ball—no big fan of chasing that little ball around the greens.

With Tiger its all about money, with the networks it all about money, and with the folks that follow this sh#t is all about celebrity mania!!!!!

Tiger was huge. He was seen as a pristine role model for our kids, for all. I mean I can’t stand watching golf, but when Tiger played, I did. He seemed like the American dream.

So I think it’s more that people are pissed at being hoodwinked. They need to get it out of their system. I actually defended him the first day. When the first rumors started flying. I thought NO WAY, this kid is too good for that. Then he just sickened me. He had it all and threw it away. Such a waste.

See, for me, I don’t care what he did in his private life. I think it was wrong, but it’s a private matter between him, his wife and his God…

It’s the constant NEWSgasm that pisses me off…

Tiger needs to get back to playing golf and kick the field’s ass by ten strokes. The MSM will then shut up.

Well said TF! Not trying to put more work on you (but you gave me the idea) check and see how many Police Officer’s have given their lives in the line of duty since Tiger crashed his SUV and today.

I PROMISE YOU FEW, (IF ANY) HAVE RECEIVED AS MUCH MEDIA ATTENTION AS TW WILL GET FROM YESTERDAY WHEN THE PRESS CONFERENCE WAS ANNOUNCED THRU MIDNIGHT TONIGHT!

And certainly, NONE of them (or for that matter, ALL of them COMBINED) come even close to the coverage of this story since it began…
    PISSES ME OFF!!!

ADMIN NOTE: Since this event began with Tiger Woods there have been 44 Police or Corrections Officers KILLED in the line of duty…

Other than the 4 officers killed at one time in Lakewood, WA., none of the rest got ANY national attention.

Spot on as usual Fred. There are more important things in life than wondering what these celebs are doing in their spare time. I didn’t really dedicate much time to this topic myself. The only thing I gleaned from his speech was that he must have had a conservative write his mea culpa talking about personal responsibility, ownership of his problems, and no one deserves entitlements. Other than that - I heard the same thing you did!

One thing about Tiger folks and that he greatly admires the US Military. His father was a retired Army Special Forces Colonel. You didn’t hear much about his speech he gave during Obama’s inauguration. Reason was he praised the military, not Obama. It was said the Obama folks weren’t too pleased.

That said: What he did was wrong but he doesn’t owe me or anyone else an apology. The only person who’s owed an apology is his wife and family.

  11. comment number 11 by: Top John

I didn’t watch, or read, his babbling. I think he DID owe a couple of folks an apology; he didn’t place himself on that pedestal. Any role model has a wee bit of personal responsibility to those that look up to them, and should certainly feel an obligation to make things right with those that do admire and emulate them.

As to the value we place on those that can play a game well, or lie skillfully (actors), it is indeed sickening. The folks that actually are good role models are few and far between.

I don’t give a god damn about Tiger or his mommy. I care about our country and what this self admitted Muslim president and his scum sucking cronies are doing to America. Open your eyes people, these socialist pigs are hell bent on trashing the greatest country in the world. THATS THE PROBLEM WITH AMERICANS TODAY,THEY PUT MORE PRIORITY ON THEIR SPORTS HEROES. HOPEFULLY BEFORE THE SHIT HITS THE FAN THOSE PRIORITIES WILL CHANGE.

Fred hit the bulls eye………..NEWSGASM’S. When I set down in the evening wanting to see/hear the news, I don’t want to see geraldo and his ugly ass face talking about what he thinks should be in the Tiger Woods groveling tell all.. Screw you geraldo!! I was dissapointed that the Marines didn’t shoot your ass when they threw you out of Iraq for drawing in the sand with a camera running.
The news media should stay out of the mans life except when he plays golf and that’s that. It’s over, let it die, and go back to reporting stuff that really means something to the people. The ones he should have apologized to was his sponsors and the kids that was looking up to him
in admiration. How much has michael jordan(the prick) contributed to the youth of America? Not much, if you want to count wearing/buying hanes underware. I say let it go.

Yesterday, I had occasion to take a cab. As soon as I got in, the driver started regaling me about how Tiger shouldn’t have to apologize. “He made only one mistake,” and, in the cabbie’s view, love means forgive a mistake. In fact, this cabbie said, “If you can’t forgive your spouse, you never really loved in the first place.”

    Sheesh.

Anyway, I’m sick of these pop starts and mega-athletes. They are on such power trips. And the idiotic so-called newscasters go along with telling such stories over and over again. The time the media spend on this crap means that other stories — REAL NEWS are not being covered.

He’s sorry he got caught, that’s all he’s sorry for.

He’s a sorry excuse for a human being. Yes, he’s good at golf. Yes he was pushed from the time he was a baby by his father to do one thing — play golf.

Perhaps his father was a bad influence on him, we know his father cheated on his mother.

Perhaps he never had a real childhood and this was his way of making up for it.

Whatever. None of those are excuses for the way he treated his wife and children.

Tiger means money. He was THE cash cow for the PGA. The ONLY cash cow for the PGA. It’s salacious, it’s stupid, so it will be covered — because PEOPLE WATCH it.

If the bulk of people didn’t care, didn’t watch, it wouldn’t be there. I concur. I care about Tiger like I care about the Olympics. Not.
