Black people must leave, NJ Walmart announcer says

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) - An announcement at a Walmart store in New Jersey ordering black people to leave brought chagrin and apologies Wednesday from leaders of the company, which has built a fragile trust among minority communities.

A male voice came over the public-address system Sunday evening at a store in Washington Township in southern New Jersey and calmly announced: “Attention Walmart customers: All black people leave the store now.”

Shoppers in the store at the time said a manager quickly got on the public address system and apologized for the remark. And while it wasn’t clear whether a rogue patron or an employee was responsible for the comment, many customers expressed their anger to store management.

“I want to know why such statements are being made, because it flies in the face of what we teach our children about tolerance for all,” said Sheila Ellington, of Monroe. She and her friend, Patricia Covington, were in the store at the time and have said they now plan to boycott the retailer.

The first thing I want to say is this, I have never worked for Walmart. I have no known friends or relatives that work for Walmart and I have no special concern for Walmart. I shop Walmart and that’s as far as my connection to Walmart goes.

Was this a tacky, crass, stupid, shocking and very immature thing for someone to do? Sure it was, but if it wasn’t a Walmart employee that did it, why are so many people outraged at the Walmart store for this happening?

Have you ever been to a Walmart? There are in-store phones scattered about in various places, it would be impossible for Walmart to fully secure each and every phone. That’s why they have certain key codes that have to be used before an in-store announcement can be made.

Does that point to a Walmart employee as being the one that made this prank call? Sure, you have to look at that possibility. But, could it have been a former employee, perhaps a disgruntled former employee that just wanted to stir up hate and discontent? Of course, that is a strong possibility ass well.

Personally, I believe that before Je$$ie Jack$on and Al $harpton show up to lead a protest and boycott of Walmart, they need to allow Walmart to investigate the matter and see how Walmart handles this ugly situation.

If it proves to be an impossibility to ascertain exactly who it was making the call, then folks just need to go on about their business and continue to shop at Walmart, or not, and write this off to a very sick prank and a juvenile idiot making it happen!

But we all know that won’t be what happens. Law suits are likely being examined, race baiters and hustlers like Jack$on and $harpton are probably already planning their appearance, the ACLU and NAACP will most likely get involved and the only thing that will appease them will be some sort of reparations.

It seems that reparations, in one form or another, is their cure for almost anything. Whether they have actually been hurt personally, or know of a hurt party, even if that party was hurt 150 or more years ago.

Reparations make it all better.

Yep, got to agree with ya on that reparations thing, the boogie brothers, ol’ Sharpton and Jukie Jessie, they’ll work their black asses off to get em some a that reparations no matter what it’s for.

But ya know, I got me a idea here, I shop at them Wally World stores too, the old woman spends a ton a my money in there, but they all got them deli things and a produce section, can’t they just give em all some a them real good fried chicken strips and a slice a cold watermelon and call it good?

I just got done reading this on Drudge - this is absolutely hilarious. While I don’t condone it - I find it extremely amusing that someone had the balls to actually do it - especially in S. Jersey.

I wonder if shoplifting occurrences went down during the evacuations? Or did they get to keep the stuff under their shirts?….Just sayin.

Probably the case Rob, that star symbol is like a ‘bleep’ or censor of the letter “S”, it’s actually WALSMART.

    “Where everyday is ‘Black’ Friday.”

To me this is funny! I worked as a manager at Wal Mart Distribution for 10 years and the company bent over backwards to hire black employees-to far for my taste. This could easily be the work of a former employee with a grudge. At the distribution center when you were fired or even just quit you can not come back into the warehouse—that especially holds true for managers who had various codes to the internal computer system and could easily do great damage if they choose to do so. The stores are another story, they cannot keep former workers out.

Jackson and Sharpton are probably straining at the bit and seeing dollar signs. Liberal groups do not like Wal Mart because they are not unionized. America on the other hand loves it because of low prices.

I find it incedibly hard to believe that a current Walmart employee had anything to do with this, but if they did it was probably just a joke- a bad one but a joke, I also find it even more hard to believe that Walmart had anything to do with this. There is no way that Walmart should have to be held accountable for this but you know the race hustlers will be out condemning Walmart and demanding reparations anyway.

The race baiters will be out in force over this. Anybody who has the sense that God gave a brass door knob knows that Wall Mart would never allow such a thing to happen. Probably a good majority of their employees are Black. Shoot, all you have to know is the code to punch in the phone and getting that from an ex employee wouldn’t be hard. There are Wall Mart intercom pranks posted all over y-tube.

Actually, I don’t thinks it’s very funny - even if it was a prank.

I wonder if Hispanics will have the same cow in any of the border cities? Just kidding. It was a stupid prank, why are they incensed?

I imagine it was a ticked off former employee or someone who just watched someone dial the key code for the PA. At any rate, no one called them names over the PA, or made a racist insult over the PA, so it wasn’t as bad as it could have been. As Fred said… let the store investigate and print an apology in the local paper! There are store cameras everywhere in a Wally World, so people need to let security do their job before they do the “Humpft!!!” and start a protest! All that does is punish people who work there and don’t make such a good living to begin with!

Yes, it was a stupid, inappropriate stunt and whoever did it needs to answer for the distasteful prank, but I’m with Fred, they all need to can the outrage and cut Wal*mart some slack! Gee Whiz!!!

A waste of police time and court time. A stupid prank that will eventually cost the tax payers 1000’s of dollar in legal cost for nothing.

    Exactly.

Clearly, the announcement wasn’t authorized by WalMart.

Walmart is a credit to our town here.
It donates tons of money to all types of endeavors.

I expect any black person that shops at our Walmart here,,, is watched very closely by the security cameras in the ceiling.

But, I would NOT make that statement for a Walmart near a Dallas ghetto neighborhood.
I expect these stores have a hard time.

Bubba… That was a bit on the *tacky* side, don’t you think?

It’s a big deal because it involves WalMart, the big store that people — the media — enjoy seing hurt precisely because it’s big, it’s ubiquitous and — egads! — it makes money! Corporate Evil, it’s racist face finally revealed! See, WalMart started in the south and everybody knows the south is racist so WalMart must be racist AND greedy, both at once! We’ll just shiv WalMart once again — why not?

I have never been in a Walmart in my life, but I agree this has nothing to do with the company. It shouldn’t have even made it to news. This is a non-story. I would feel the same way if they asked for Jews to leave as well, although I doubt any shop at Walmart.
