Cops: Border agent shot, hurt man

January 25th, 2008 . by TexasFred

DOUGLAS, Ariz. (AP) — A U.S. Border Patrol agent questioning the occupants of a pickup clung to the passenger door and shot and wounded the truck’s driver Thursday as the man attempted to flee, authorities said.

The unidentified agent stopped the truck with five people inside about 9:30 a.m. Thursday on U.S. 191, nine miles northwest of Douglas, Cochise County Sheriff’s spokesman Carol Capas said. The agent was acting on a tip that a truck matching the description and license plate had been seen loading a group of illegal immigrants near Douglas, Capas said.

As the agent stood on the passenger side of the truck, the driver attempted to drive off, with the agent caught in the vehicle’s door, Capas said.

“The agent fired a single shot prior to falling off of the door, which struck the driver one time in the leg,” Capas said. The agent was dragged about 20 feet before firing his shot, hitting the driver in the upper left leg, Capas added.

The driver — identified as Luis Sanchez-Barron, 29, of Hermosillo, Mexico — stopped a short distance away. He was airlifted to University Medical Center in Tucson, where he was listed in fair condition.

Well, I am guessing that Bush will have Johnny Sutton all over this, I mean, what the hell, there’s a Border Patrol agent to be arrested, and sent to prison, for doing his job..

We just can’t allow that to happen now can we Mr. Bush? Might piss off your Mexican amigos…

It wouldn’t surprise me if Johnny Sutton is already filing charges against the agent.

No doubt. One wonders if maybe sometimes he’s planning a run as president of Mexico.

I am kinda pissed about this..seems to me like the Border Patrol Agents need some more time on the firing range …they are wounding to many people that they should be killing.

    GuyK: Agreed, 110%…

Years ago it was my extreme pleasure to know Mr Bill Jordan, he lived in my hometown of Shreveport and Mr. Bill was one of the most skilled combat pistoleros that ever came down the pike, I was a snot nosed kid and I was in total awe of the man, I just thought I could shoot a pistol well, Mr. Bill set the standard…

    Bill Jordan

Mr. Bill gave me MANY great pieces of advice over the years and a hell of a lot of wonderful instruction in combat pistol shooting but the very best, and most memorable line went something like “If ya have to shoot the SOB, make damn sure ya kill him, it’s a lot easier to explain a DEAD body than it is a wounded one that’s talking…

    Mr Bill was a genius…

Capas said the other four occupants apparently did not attempt to escape and were taken into custody by the Border Patrol.

He has shot one of ya, would you risk it.

Too bad the agent wasn’t a better shot.

“If ya have to shoot the SOB, make damn sure ya kill him, it’s a lot easier to explain a DEAD body than it is a wounded one that’s talking”

That is the God’s honest truth.

Yep, that’s what everyone keeps telling me….shoot to kill.

I’m just all ripped up about that wounding…can’t ya tell?

My guess will be this: the agent will be disciplined. Unknown if the feds will file official criminal charges; I suspect not. However, I would also guess the USBP and the specific agent will be sued civilly.

All I can say is: They better be glad he didn’t taze the driver….the law suits would be overflowing Sutton’s mail box. The cop just shot him, I suspect the cop will get less time in jail than he would have if he used the tazer. (dripping with sarcasm)

I am a little disappointed in the BPA, he has got to spend a little more time on the range…LOL

    Here’s a ‘teaser’ :

BREVARD, Jan. 19, 2008 – Retired Army Green Beret James T. (Smokey) Taylor got his court martial this weekend and came away feeling pretty good about it.

Taylor, at age 79, is one of the oldest members of Chapter XXXIII (The Larry Thorne Chapter) of the Special Forces Association. He was placed on trial by fellow Chapter XXXIII members under the charge of “failing to use a weapon of sufficient caliber” in the shooting of an intruder at his home in Knoxville, TN, in November.
