WASHINGTON (AP) - Sen. John McCain won a commanding victory in the Republican delegate race over Mitt Romney on Super Tuesday. Sen. Barack Obama, trailing much of the night, nearly pulled even with Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton in the contest for Democratic delegates.

McCain won 511 delegates to 176 for Romney and 147 for former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee in incomplete results. A total of 1,023 delegates were up for grabs in 21 states.

Overall, McCain led with 613 delegates, to 269 for Romney and 190 for Huckabee. It takes 1,191 to win the nomination at this summer’s convention in St. Paul, Minn.

Clinton led with 584 delegates to Obama’s 563. A total of 1,681 delegates were at stake in 22 states and American Samoa.

Overall, that gave Clinton 845 delegates, to 765 for Obama, with 2,025 delegates required to claim the nomination in Denver at this summer’s convention.

The AP tracks the delegate races by projecting the number of national convention delegates won by candidates in each presidential primary or caucus, based on state and national party rules, and by interviewing unpledged delegates to obtain their preferences.

In some states, like Iowa and Nevada, local precinct caucuses are the first stage in the allocation process. The AP uses preferences expressed in those caucuses to project the number of national convention delegates each candidate will have when they are chosen at county, congressional district or state conventions.

I fully expected that Clinton would be leading after Super Tuesday, she is, after all, the Demist of the Dems, the Libberest of the Libs, and further left than the Kos Kids…

What disappoints me was the fact that so many Republicans are as stupid as they are, I guess they just can’t see that there isn’t even that 2 degrees of separation between the Dems and Repubs, as of late, there is NO difference between the two parties…

Dems have always voted the (D) just because that’s what Dems do, always have, as far back as I remember elections and politics in the 50’s, my folks, their folks, all their friends, they were Dems, old style Dems, not the modern Libber that has ruined the Democratic party, I mean hard working and conservative Dems, but they ALL voted the (D) simply because that was the way it was done, and that is a part of the Democratic party that has sustained itself, and made the migration to the Repubs, most of the Repubs I know now are as blind to party loyalty as ANY Dem ever was, they vote the (R) simply because it’s the easiest thing they can do, it requires very little thought process…

John McCain claims to be a Repub, but he is NOT, John McCain is as liberal as it gets, John McCain is closer to Hillary and her way of thinking than is Bill Clinton himself, and if the Repubs want this nation to go down the tubes, go ahead and nominate John McCain at the RNC convention…

It’s fast becoming time my friends, we are not going to be happy no matter which liberal wins, and mark my words, Hillary or McCain, we get a LIBERAL no matter which one gets in, so, we’re going to suffer through 4 years and during that time I suggest that we figure out a way to build a true Conservative party, and find true Conservative candidates to run in the 2012 elections, it’s too late to try and present a viable candidate now, but we have 4 years to brainstorm and build, and if we can’t re-take this nation with a true Conservative movement in 2012, I fear that there won’t be much of America remaining, not the America we know now, and what will remain won’t be worth saving…

To the Republicans, be careful what you wish for, you may get it, and the future of this nation is in your hands…
