Feds assess terror watchlists after airline attack

WASHINGTON (AP) - Federal authorities met Monday to reassess the nation’s system of terror watchlists to determine how to avoid the type of lapse that allowed a man with explosives to board a flight to the U.S. even though he was flagged as a possible terrorist.

A senior U.S. intelligence official said authorities were reviewing the procedures that govern the lists, which could include how someone is placed on or moved between the various databases.

The Obama administration has ordered investigations into how travelers are placed on watch lists and how passengers are screened, as critics and administration officials questioned how the 23-year-old man charged in the Christmas Day airliner attack was allowed to board the flight.

“Why wasn’t he flagged at a higher screening level?” Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”"How did he get an explosive substance on to the plane? All of those are serious questions that we are now looking at.”

I am going to say this in the most plain language I can possibly use. I don’t want anyone, even the most dim of the Dems to misunderstand my meaning. The administration of Barack Hussein Obama is an utter failure, on EVERY level.

These are Napolitano’s questions? She is asking these questions and saying that they are being ‘looked at’? Aren’t those the questions that WE should be asking of HER? Isn’t she supposed to have those answers now? Isn’t that the job she’s supposed to be doing? Isn’t she supposed to be looking at each and every threat to American security?

Homeland security? Hello??

The intelligence official said the review will look at what adjustments could be made to avoid the type of gap that allowed Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab to fly into Detroit even though Britain had refused to grant him a student visa in May. The official spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the internal review.

The system has failed. Miserably. We were warned about this person becoming a radical Islamic terrorist, warned by his father of all people. So, what happens next? He has his name placed on a list, and that’s pretty much the end of it until he tries to commit an act of terror over American soil!

WASHINGTON: As FBI agents charged Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, 23, from Nigeria, with attempting to destroy Northwest Airlines flight 253 from Amsterdam, authorities were confronting an uncomfortable reality - their suspect had boarded an aircraft despite warnings from his father, a former Nigerian economics minister, that his son had adopted extremist views. When your own family sounds the warning, when they try to alert others to your potential to do violence and commit acts of terror, and those warnings are pretty much ignored, and swept under the rug, that is sorely indicative of systemic failure.

Another Officer Shooting in Wash. May Lead To New Laws

OLYMPIA, Wash. — The murders of five police officers and this week’s shooting of two more have lawmakers thinking about more than a looming budget deficit as they prepare to return to the state capital in January.

A handful of bills sparked by the recent shootings have already been prefiled in advance of next month’s start of the 60-day legislative session, and more are expected.

Gov. Chris Gregoire has called on law-enforcement groups to meet next week to compile a list of potential changes to state law, policy or the state constitution, and to meet with her on Jan. 8. And one lawmaker already has a public hearing scheduled to discuss the circumstances surrounding one of the shootings.

“The bottom line is we owe it to our law enforcement personnel to do everything we can to make sure they’re safe and secure out there,” Gregoire said in a phone interview with The Associated Press.

Do we have any doubt as to what the next cry from Washington State will be?

Any time there is a shooting, the anti-gun crowd goes into full blown histrionics regarding what they perceive to be a need to ban ALL guns and take each and every gun away from Americans.

The fact that this potential, and highly probable anti-gun push is going to be based on the shootings, and murders of, police officers only inflames the issue more.

I am seriously concerned about the safety of our police officers too.

As my long time readers know, I have many friends and relatives that are active duty officers. Their safety is of great concern for me, but all things considered, their safety is not endangered by LEGAL gun owning citizens, their safety is endangered by the criminals that they have sworn to protect and defend this nation from.

There are millions of LEGAL, safe, sane and responsible gun owners in this nation. 99.999% of those gun owners have never broken the law where gun usage is involved! But any time there are more gun control laws put into play, that vast percentage of responsible American gun owners suffers the consequences because of the actions of a minute few.

“When you have a tragedy of this magnitude, you’ve really got to be thoughtful, you’ve really got to be deliberate,” she said. “Your impulse is to just go enact legislation, but good intentions don’t necessarily bring about good results. So I defer to those who have boots on the ground.”

That may well be the best, and safest stance Gov. Chris Gregoire could take at this time. Make a positive statement about gun violence and then throw the ball into the court of others. She isn’t going to come out looking like the villain that way, and future anti-gun legislation that she signs will only be the will of the people.

After those shootings, Rep. Chris Hurst, D-Enumclaw, announced he was going to hold a public hearing to look into why Clemmons was out on the streets in the first place.

Hurst, chairman of the House Public Safety Committee and a retired police officer, said that his hearing, planned for Jan. 18, will examine every aspect of the Clemmons case.

That’s a great idea, look into it. Clemmons should not have been on the street, there was a breakdown in the judicial system in this case. I also believe that there are many breakdowns in our legal system. Far too many violent felons are released and placed back on the streets, only to return to the life that put them in prison in the 1st place.

Nigerian man charged with trying to blow up plane

DETROIT (AP) - A man who claimed to be an agent of al-Qaida was charged Saturday with trying to blow up a Northwest Airlines flight on Christmas Day as it was preparing to land in Detroit, officials said.

The Justice Department said 23-year-old Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab had a device containing a high explosive attached to his body on Flight 253 from Amsterdam. As the flight neared Detroit’s airport on Friday, Abdulmutallab set it off - but it sparked a fire instead of an explosion, the government said.

A preliminary analysis of the device shows that it contained PETN, also known as pentaerythritol, according the affidavit filed in federal court in Detroit.

Abdulmutallab allegedly told passengers that his stomach was upset, then pulled a blanket over himself, the affidavit said. Passengers then heard popping noises that sounded like fireworks and smelled smoke before at least one passenger climbed over seats and tackled Abdulmutallab.

I can’t say I am surprised. An Islamic terrorist tries to blow up a jet liner over U.S. soil, and does it on Christmas Day. Imagine that! And imagine the significance of that day had he been a bit more successful. Imagine what would have been the reaction in militant Islam had that event gone off as planned.

Abdulmutallab claimed to have been instructed by al-Qaida to detonate the plane over U.S. soil, said a U.S. law enforcement official. But others cautioned that such claims could not be verified immediately. Another official said the U.S. had known for at least two years that that the Mutallab could have had terrorist ties and was on a list that includes people with known or suspected ties to a terrorist organization.

But… But… Wait… He was “instructed by al-Qaida to detonate the plane over U.S. soil”? How can that be? I can’t believe this is the truth. I can’t believe al-Qaida would do such a thing, I seem to distinctly remember this being said: Obama declares US not at war with Islam.

Didn’t Barack Hussein Obama recently say: The U.S. should reach out to Taliban? It seems to me that was what he was saying. After all, aren’t al-Qaida and the Taliban nearly one in the same?

We’re not at war with Islam, and there’s no Global War on Terror.

The Obama administration appears to be backing away from the phrase “global war on terror,” a signature rhetorical legacy of its predecessor.

In a memo e-mailed this week to Pentagon staff members, the Defense Department’s office of security review noted that “this administration prefers to avoid using the term ‘Long War’ or ‘Global War on Terror’ [GWOT.] Please use ‘Overseas Contingency Operation.’ “ SOURCE

I am not making hollow statements, I’m not trying to indict the President using false information and made up statistics, I am using his own words, and the statements of HIS White House, that is what drives the Libbers over the edge, when folks like me use Obama’s own actions, his words and his nefarious associations to point out what is rapidly becoming apparent to anyone this is willing to open their eyes and take a look.

Barack Hussein Obama is one of the enemy. He may not be the one giving the orders to al-Qaida but he is certainly not going out of his way to prosecute them either. And until that blessed event comes to fruition, incidents such as this attempt in Detroit will continue to happen.

ATTACK: Washington D.C. Nuked

Zero Hour At 10.24 a m today a small nuclear device was detonated today somewhere between the White House and the U. S. Capitol building in Washington. The first reports came from commercial airline pilots approaching the city in route to Dulles International Airport . Numerous pilots reported seeing a huge mushroom cloud coming up from the city’s center and at the same time feeling their aircraft shudder from the force of the blast. At this time communications from the stricken city remain sparse with little information coming out. For the moment there is no word about the safety of the president although it is known that he was in the White House at the time of the attack. It is also believed that both the House and the Senate were in session at the moment of the blast.

Zero Hour +1 News helicopters out of the Baltimore area flying over Washington report seeing massive damage in the Washington D.C. areas with hundreds of fires raging in areas up to one mile from what is believed to be ground zero. Some reported seeing a huge crater perhaps 100-200 yards wide in an area some quarter mile NE of the spot where the Washington Monument formally stood, only the base of that structure remains. There are also unconfirmed reports that parts of the capital dome are missing and that flames are coming from the gaping holes in that structure. Parts of the White House have been completely destroyed while other parts are in flames at this hour with no efforts being made to extinguish them.

Zero Hour +5 Breaking news from AP: The Associated Press in now reporting that president Barack Hussein Obama was killed in the attack on the nations capital earlier today, but gave no details. It is also reporting that Vice President Joe Biden who was at the White House at that hour was also killed in the blast. And this report is just coming in: many members of Congress have perished in the attack among the many being mentioned at this time are notably Nancy Pelosi, speaker of the house, and Senator Robert Byrd, President pro tempore of the Senate. Reuters is now reporting the Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in being sworn in as the 45th president of the United States on a air force plane somewhere over the Atlantic as she flies back back from Brussels where she was attending a NATO meeting. Her destination is a closely guarded secret at this time.

Zero Hour +10 Al Jazeera television is reporting that Al qaeda is claiming responsibility for the attack on Washington and that terrorist group is claiming to have planted additional nuclear devices in other U.S. cities. Along with this claim Al qaeda has issued a list of demands to stop any future attacks. Among the many demands are the following: 1) immediate moves to began a full U.S. withdrawal of military forces from all Muslim countries throughout the world 2) immediate cease fire by all U.S. military forces in Iraq and Afghanistan 3) recognition of Al qaeda as a legitimate organization operating to restore world peace 4) reparations in the amount of One Trillion dollars to be paid to Al qaeda for damages to that organization an other Arab states 5) additional demands to come in near future. Al Jazeera is also reporting that Al qaeda is giving the United States government 72 hour to announce compliance with these demands or a second device will be detonated somewhere in the US.
