SC priest: No communion for Obama supporters

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A South Carolina Roman Catholic priest has told his parishioners that they should refrain from receiving Holy Communion if they voted for Barack Obama because the Democratic president-elect supports abortion, and supporting him “constitutes material cooperation with intrinsic evil.”

The Rev. Jay Scott Newman said in a letter distributed Sunday to parishioners at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenville that they are putting their souls at risk if they take Holy Communion before doing penance for their vote.

“Our nation has chosen for its chief executive the most radical pro-abortion politician ever to serve in the United States Senate or to run for president,” Newman wrote, referring to Obama by his full name, including his middle name of Hussein.

“Voting for a pro-abortion politician when a plausible pro-life alternative exists constitutes material cooperation with intrinsic evil, and those Catholics who do so place themselves outside of the full communion of Christ’s Church and under the judgment of divine law. Persons in this condition should not receive Holy Communion until and unless they are reconciled to God in the Sacrament of Penance, lest they eat and drink their own condemnation.”

Again I must preface my comments, I was raised in the Catholic church, I haven’t been a Catholic since I was 17 years old and personally I have little if any use for the RCC other than their view on abortion. I am not a very religious guy, I don’t run to ANY church every time the doors are open, never have and never will, so, my relationship with God is mine and that is NOT what this post is about. This is about the responsibility that this Priest is asking Catholics to exhibit, and he is VERY correct, at least in MY opinion.

I know there are going to be some that say this is a case of *church and state* and that the constitution of this United States says that separation between the 2 must be maintained. OK, here’s the deal, SHOW ME! Show me exactly WHERE that statement is in our constitution. That clause or amendment that says we MUST maintain a separation of church and state. Go ahead, I’ll wait…

Now, while we’re waiting, this Priest is quite correct in MY opinion, but opinion is ALL it is. For a person, Catholic or otherwise to *do penance* for a perceived sin, they must 1st feel guilty for having committed that sin, otherwise, there is no penance done, no forgiveness sought and life goes on, at least for those that were luck enough to have already been born!

Separation of church and state is a political and legal doctrine that government and religious institutions are to be kept separate and independent from each other. The term most often refers to the combination of two principles: secularity of government and freedom of religious exercise.

The phrase separation of church and state is generally traced to the letter written by Thomas Jefferson in 1802 to the Danbury Baptists, in which he referred to the First Amendment to the United States Constitution as creating a “wall of separation” between church and state. The phrase was then quoted by the United States Supreme Court first in 1878, and then in a series of cases starting in 1948. This led to increased popular and political discussion of the concept. Separation of church and state

That is where the concept of *church and state come from, not from the 1st amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

Amendment I: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

OK, so I didn’t want to wait any longer, you know, for that occasional abortion loving libber to try and come up with the *separation of church and state* thing, it doesn’t exist!

For the abortion on demand Dem/Libbers to feel guilty they must 1st feel guilt and have a conscience, and apparently they don’t. God protect ALL the unborn babies that will be murdered once the most liberal president in U.S. history takes office. The most innocent among us will pay the heaviest toll!
