Bush signs $162 billion war spending bill
June 30th, 2008 . by TexasFredWASHINGTON (AP) - President Bush on Monday signed legislation to pay for the war operations in Iraq and Afghanistan for the rest of his presidency and beyond, hailing the $162 billion plan as a rare product of bipartisan cooperation.
“This bill shows the American people that even in an election year, Republicans and Democrats can come together to stand behind our troops and their families,” Bush said in an Oval Office ceremony.
Bush made clear to thank members of both parties in Congress, singling out some sponsors of the long-delayed, compromise measure for praise. His positive comments contrasted with the confrontational tone that has dominated the debate between Congress and his administration over Iraq.
The legislation will bring to more than $650 billion the amount Congress has provided for the Iraq war since it began more than five years ago. For operations in Afghanistan, the total is nearly $200 billion, according to congressional officials.

$850 BILLION U.S. taxpayer dollars, total, so far, have been spent on the war in Iraq and the efforts in Afghanistan.
And just exactly what do WE have to show for it?? What is OUR payoff for these huge monetary expenditures?
Iraq is still a highly volatile place, we have troops dying there on an almost daily basis, and for ALL of our efforts, the Iraqi government is still a joke, they would fold like a cheap suit if we walked away, and all of our efforts would have been for naught.

We are spending BILLIONS of our dollars to police the world, to make Iraq a decent and peaceful place for it’s citizens, that’s according to the last release of mission definition, and now this, Iraq opens 6 oil fields to international bidding, what about some massive repayment for OUR losses taking place 1st?? What about some compensation for the expenditure of OUR tax dollars?
Where’s the payoff for OUR efforts? When does America get to enjoy the fruits of it’s labor?
Not wanting to appear one way, but if there’s no direct benefit to the America people, why go? Why bankrupt US so others can benefit?

My sentiments exactly. We have nothing to show for it. It’s just gone. And there is not a darn thing we can do about it.
162 Billion for Irag. 400 million for Mexico. NINE Trillion and counting on our national debt. Millions of people losing their homes in the United States but 30 Billion for a bailout of one company that one of our government spokesmen called a “minor outlay”. Should have called it coporate welfare. Do what you want boys and don’t worry, Uncle Sam will bail you out. Unless you are an individual United States citizen. Or an American solider, then you get to make your own armour until the public uproar got Bush”s attention. How many of our men and women were killed because we, supposedly, did not have the money to send them amoured cars.
And so now the oil fields are going up for international bid. I wonder if that was part of the deal that Georgie boy made with the Saudi’s on his recent visit. We get a bit more oil and you get the whole oil field.
The scary part, that 29% of the people in this country would vote for him again.
Sorry, Fred. I could rant all day on this subject. As your next post shows the American citizen just doesn’t count for much anymore. The swampland wants our taxes and then it expects us to be quiet.

Bush is a moron and yeah, 29% of this nation would put him back in if they could, that means that something like 29% of the USA electorate are morons too I guess..
While I think on some levels our being in Iraq is a good Idea, it has cost way too much in lives and money. Bush is a failure when it comes to keeping the public informed, he failed in dealing with our captured terrorists, he should have followed the geneva convention with them and we would not have had the supreme court giving these bastards rights, because under the geneva convention, they would have been shot in the field as un-uniformed renegade enemy combatants. bullets are much cheaper than ACLU lawyers. and he failed to really defeat the terrorists. he failed to push back against the DNC’s extreme idiocy, which, if he would, he’d have SO much more support….
oh, and the biggest failure is thinking we will win favor with any Muslim country. just won’t happen, their hate us unjustified and irrational, how can you think anything wil change that? yeah, some Muslims come here and are productive peaceful citizens, fine. but hell, look at all the money we have sent to Saudi over they years and we still don’t get any favors from them, nor will we. we get them financing much of the terrorism against us, that’s the thanks we get. Islam is all about fear and force, it’s all there ever will be in that religion. read the Koran.
Sure, we have something to show for this cabal.. Barak Hussein Obama running for president (and idiots supporting him).. I believe if this whole thing had been handled quickly and efficiently and not been allowed to go all politically correct we wouldn’t have liberal contemporaries ready to elect someone that is this dangerous to us just for the sake of proving to the world at large that we don’t hate Muslims and/or (female dog) slapping a president they hate in the face.
I have seen and heard many, many on tv and radio say that we are small minded for calling Obama a muslim, but IMO they are the ones being naive for not acknowledging the fact that in the eyes of muslims around the world and most importantly here at home when a man is born of a muslim father, in the eyes of the muslim community that man IS a muslim (and Obama knows this). THAT is why most if not all muslims in the USA will vote for him no matter what he really stands for. And I do believe that no matter what happened with those women at his rally’s, they will be there to ‘pull the lever’ for Obama.
