Obama: Tap nation’s oil reserve to help gas prices

August 4th, 2008 . by TexasFred

CHICAGO (AP) - Barack Obama is proposing tapping the nation’s strategic oil reserves to help drive down gasoline prices, his campaign said Monday.

Obama supports releasing light oil from the emergency oil stockpile now and replacing it later with heavier crude more suited to the country’s long-term needs, according to a campaign fact sheet. Light crude oil is easier to refine into gasoline than heavier oil.

Also on Monday, the Obama campaign unveiled a television ad that criticizes Republican John McCain’s energy policies.

“After one president in the pocket of big oil we can’t afford another,” says the ad, referring to President Bush’s previous work in the oil industry.

Obama is emphasizing energy and the economy in campaign stops this week in Michigan, Ohio and Indiana, beginning with a speech Monday in Lansing, Mich. Gas prices over $4 a gallon have become a top issue in the presidential contest.

Obama: Tap nation’s oil reserve to help gas prices

To put it simply, Barack Hussein Obama is a fool of the 1st order.

Leave the strategic petroleum reserves alone, they are reserves, and they are there for a reason, and that reason is NOT to cover the asses of the do nothing Congress and Senate that this nation is suffering through at this point in time.

Suppose Ahmadinejad decides to shut down the Strait of Hormuz and disrupt the flow of oil to the west?

Of course the Navy would promptly unblock the Strait, but the disruption would already be affecting the American and other world markets and ready supplies, but more importantly, the oil supplies to our military, our protectors, it would have been disrupted as well, that my friends is why we have a strategic petroleum reserve.

And apparently Barack Hussein Obama has NO understanding of that, the man that wants to lead this nation has no background in leadership, has very little experience in government and business and has NO clue concerning national security or our military.

Read the full article from AP, see for yourself, if you don’t already know, Obama is a disaster looking for a place to happen, and the American people can’t stand the potential disaster this person poses.

Come November there’s going to be a lot of people going to the polls and holding their noses as they vote, many, myself included, won’t be voting FOR McLame, but AGAINST Obama.

And guess what WE get for that? The lesser of 2 evils. All over again.

Damn, are WE stupid or what??

As has been pointed out time after time the US strategic oil reserves are only a ‘drop in the bucket’ to what the US as a whole consumes each day. Yes it looks good when you don’t know the facts, and not knowing the facts are a politicians stock in trade and its also a trait that many average people seem to revel in.

How many times have you heard “We need to be energy independent”?

These some of these people are blocking the use of our own oil. They have no grasp of how much energy we need nor what kind.

Using the petroleum reserve is an idea being floated to knock some of the speculators out of the market. They believe that speculation is the only thing keeping oil prices high. They don’t see China and India with their sudden demand for more oil having any effect.

The price is high because the dollar is weak and because the demand for oil has greatly increased. Speculation may play a role but it is minor at best. Taking steps to improve the dollar and putting more supply into the pipeline for oil are the answers. Damaging our strategic oil reserve is not.

You could always Drill. I mean where the oil is not just where you think it would be nice.

That’s what my step-son said: You don’t vote for McCain, you vote against Obama.

BobF, and ya know, that’s a really piss-poor way of looking at it too… But what other choice do we have??

  6. comment number 6 by: ChrisWy

Don’t forget to check your tire pressure! Obama says we won’t need to drill for more oil if we’d only keep our tires properly inflated.

  7. comment number 7 by: TexasFred

Ya know, having properly inflated tires IS one measure that can help, so is a well tuned car, but Obama seems to think that’s all it takes…

As I said, Obama IS a fool… And every time the son of a bitch opens his mouth he proves it even more…

  8. comment number 8 by: rgroland

Just another campaign BS statement. He will say anything till election day to get control.

By the way, my tire pressure is A OK!!!

rgroland, next thing you’re gonna do is post a *Save the Planet* banner on your blog huh??

I hope I don’t tense up when I’m in the voting booth. I’m tired of not wanting to vote for either candidate, and having to vote against the other candidate. Oh, how I could just have November skip over me and just wake up in December.

I shall not, and cannot become apathetic towards politics, but gosh they make ti so da&% hard. :0)

I’m going to go pull out my pro’s and con’s list for both candidates, both looking a little equal on each side.

TF, can I borrow you old one!! HAHAHA

  12. comment number 12 by: TexasFred

Tish, that’s the truly sad part, BOTH of em are terrible choices for America, and we can only blame ourselves for NOT placing better candidates in the race…

The DNC and the RNC had their *choice guy* long before it was a *done deal*, and we’re stuck with it until a whole bunch of Americans get over their apathy and grow a set…

We MUST have a viable 3rd party, a REAL Conservative party, but every time I bring it up the naysayers come out of the woodwork, and just my opinion, the Libertarian Party is a bigger joke than the 2 parties we already have, and are NOT a viable selection…

  13. comment number 13 by: cary - Botan Ichihara

The last question in your post was, I hope, rhetoric in nature.

There has to be a third party - if for no other reason than to shake up the existing parties and let them know that most of America is looking for REAL conservatives.

I, too, will be voting AGAINST Obamanation more than FOR anyone. And that comes from one of McCain’s constituents. How sad is that?

  14. comment number 14 by: rgroland

TF, your thought of the Straits are right on target. This from Iran today

“TEHRAN, Iran — Iran announced Monday that it has tested a new weapon capable of sinking ships nearly 200 miles away, and reiterated threats to close a strategic waterway at the mouth of the Persian Gulf if attacked.”

Those reserves are there fro a purpose!!! I believe that it will not be too long before they will come in handy!!!!

  15. comment number 15 by: Bloviating Zeppelin

My vote for McCain is precisely one AGAINST Obama. That simple. And the reserves as you indicate are precisely that: for an emergency, the likes of which this current situation does not qualify.

Fred, I planned on voting, like others here have said, for “none of the above”. But, the more I see of Obama, the more I realize that 4 yrears of his presidency could really do this nation harm. We weathered 8 years of Bill Clinton and came though it and we’re going to come though GW Bush too. I also believe we could survive 4 years of McCain but I’m not too sure of Obama. With his arrogance and stupidity along with Reid and Pelosi controlling congress, we’re not only going down the toilet but we’re going to be flushed out to see. Foreign powers will have more influence upon our nation and our Constitution will be trodden down by World Courts and the UN. Like you said, “what other choice do we have”. Boy, do I wish Fred Thompson would have caught fire and charged up the Conservatives of this country.

  17. comment number 17 by: TexasFred

BobF, Thompson, Tancredo, Duncan Hunter, Bozo the freaking Clown, any of em would be better than either of these asshats running but I am doing the same thing, the more I hear from Obama, the more I KNOW that we MUST stop him, and even though McLame won’t be a stellar choice, and I hope he has the good sense to make a VP pick that is, regardless, McLame is the least dangerous…

Pretty damned sad state of affairs actually, the American people are reduced to voting for the least dangerous…

    Damn…

I saw on Fox and Friends this afternoon that McCain is leading Obama by a tiny margin in the polls..first time McCain has been ahead..

  19. comment number 19 by: Isaac

As a McCain supporter myself (I can at least say that among conservatives without getting stoned like a Clinton supporter on a Obama blog), I think McCain is addressing the issue quite well with his push for more off shore drilling.

  20. comment number 20 by: TexasFred

Isaac, I hate to tell you this, but in American politics, what McLame is doing is called pandering…

He is dead set against drilling, off shore, on shore, anywhere, has been for a long time, but he knows it’s about ALL he’s got that might get him elected…

The very same can be said for his views on gun ownership, McLame IS one of the biggest gun grabbers the nation has ever known, but he kissed the NRA’s ass, he’s kissing the gun owners asses and it’s all because that’s ALL he has…

McLame is, and has always been, a lot closer to the Dems and Libbers than he cared to admit, hell, he was considering leaving the GOP to run as John F’n Kerry’s VP a while back, how damned lame can ya get??

Yes, he IS a bit better than Obama, but lets face facts here, neither one of the sons a bitches have a damn thing FOR America, there’s just too few people in possession of the balls to say it out loud…

I am NOT one of those people…

I’m listening to Rush Limbaugh’s podcast of today’s show - he played a couple of clips of Obamoron… Made blood shoot out of my eyes.

I’m like everyone else, I’m voting against BO and Michelle — although I must admit - I LOVE the McCain ads…. :)
