Hutchison signals she’s ready for a showdown with Perry in 2010
December 10th, 2008 . by TexasFredAUSTIN – In creating a committee Thursday to explore a run for governor, Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison sent her strongest signal yet that she’s ready for a showdown against Gov. Rick Perry that would cost millions and sharply divide the Texas GOP. Ms. Hutchison has considered running for governor before but always backed away. This time, by launching the committee, she has cleared the way to open a campaign office and raise money for the race.Although the Republican primary is 15 months away, the contours of the race have already emerged – Mr. Perry casting her as part of the problem in Washington and Ms. Hutchison labeling him a divisive, ineffective leader in Austin.
“As any person watching the last legislative session could see, it was very contentious and acrimonious,” she said. “Certainly Texas is looking for change in that office.”
Mr. Perry, who has repeatedly said he will seek re-election, fired back through a spokesman by suggesting that the Republican senator has spent too much time outside Texas.
“There hasn’t been much good coming out of Washington – record deficits, bailouts, spending,” said Mark Miner.

Personally, I will support Rick Perry against Hutchison. He’s not a great Governor, he’s not as bad as I feel Hutchison would be. And I am on record, right here, right now, as saying, IF the Dems or Libertarians put up an intelligent and viable choice, and KBH were to get the Republican nod, I will support an alternative candidate! I did so in the presidential race, I made my views quite plain for everyone, I will NEVER support the lesser of the evils again.
Texans have great memories, we don’t forget things like the recent antics of KBH, I won’t forget, and I won’t allow Texans to forget. I would be betraying my principles to do otherwise on a Texas vote of such importance!

Fred,
I have to slightly disagree with you, unless KBH has a lot more shady stuff to come out, it would be exceedingly hard for her to be worse than Perry. Here are my thoughts
- Perry broke many of his promises before his term even started!
- Perry is trying to sell of the State Lottery with (I believe) his brother brokering the deal.
- Perry is trying to injure our daughters by forcing a proven to harm drug into their systems (Gardisil), I do believe there are financial benefits for Perry or relative is this one as well.
- Perry is doing his best to rob many land owners of their land (Trans Texas HWY) to ensure his own retirement plan with Cintra
- Perry AFAIK loves amnesty
- Perry did his best to get Cintra into the 121 toll way, with massive bait and switch that has screwed over The Colony, Frisco and McKinney with all the revenue from 121 to LEAVE Collin county
Perry is a crook, I would not trust him as far as my 3 year daughter could through me, and now that you have met me, you know what I mean by that!
From what I can tell, all of the other 3 candidates who ran last time would be much better in Austin. Again, from what I can see Bell is more conservative on education and budget then Perry is.
I repeat, if Bell runs again my Suburban will have a sign on the back that reads “Collin county conservative for Bell”. If either KBH or Perry is on the ticket I will canvas for Bell.
Good luck KBH, you lost any of my future votes when you started voting FOR the amnesty [email protected]
Tom?? Did you miss this part of my original post??
“And I am on record, right here, right now, as saying, IF the Dems or Libertarians put up an intelligent and viable choice, and KBH were to get the Republican nod, I will support an alternative candidate!”
I detest KBH, not crazy about Perry either, if the Libertarians run a good candidate, or, IF, by some divine intervention, the Dems fielded a good candidate, I am there…
And this *Bell*, can you link him?? Maybe a full name?? Is it Chris Bell??
Fred,
I was disagreeing on your choosing Perry over KBH, not suggesting you would pick him over any other qualified candidate, at least I hope I did not.
Yeah, Chris Bell, he is a bit spend happy on Health care for me, but he strikes me as a lot more honest than Perry and KBH combined. Kinky would have done a much better job than Perry, even if he did not get a single thing done. At least Kinky would not have worked against the tax payers of Texas.
It will be interesting to see who runs next time around. But regardless there is not way I could support KBH or Perry!
Stacy voted for Kinky last time, sadly the other 3 split the non-Perry vote, and Perry got it.
Well, if Perry and KBH were ALL we had, I think I’d still pick Perry…
I just hope we have something better… Republican, Dem, Libertarian, Independent, something… I am SO tired of the BS from Austin and DC, as is a HUGE portion of this state and nation, we have got to do better…
I have to say I agree with the LoneRider. Kay should have stayed a cheerleader. To a point they are at least useful. Kay has never been worth a flip without Senator Phil to tell her how to vote.
Hutchison or Perry is a no brainer. I won’t vote for either.
