U.S. warns of increased risk of summer attacks

No specific terror threat, officials say, but al-Qaida may be ‘rebuilding’

WASHINGTON - U.S. counterterror officials are warning of an increased risk of an attack this summer, given al-Qaida’s apparent interest in summertime strikes and increased al-Qaida training in the Afghan-Pakistani border region.

On Tuesday, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff told the editorial board of The Chicago Tribune that he had a “gut feeling” about a new period of increased risk.

He based his assessment on earlier patterns of terrorists in Europe and intelligence he would not disclose.

“Summertime seems to be appealing to them,” Chertoff said in his discussion with the newspaper about terrorists. “We worry that they are rebuilding their activities.”

Have you noticed?? Every time George Bush takes a tumble in the polls, HSA goes all scary on us and starts with the ‘gut feelings’ and ‘hunches’ and so forth??

Surely the presidents popularity isn’t tied to the ‘Let’s keep ‘em scared Mikey’ factor is it?? Do they think we’re being fooled by this ‘nanny state’ BS where they honestly believe that WE need them a lot more than they need us??

Other U.S. counterterrorism officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, shared Chertoff’s concern and said that al-Qaida and like-minded groups have been able to plot and train more freely in the tribal areas along the Afghan-Pakistani border in recent months. Osama bin Laden and his top deputy, Ayman al-Zawahri, are believed to be hiding in the rugged region.

“The threat coming out of there is very real, even if there aren’t a lot of specifics attached to it,” one of the officials said.

OK, here we go again with that “U.S. counterterrorism officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity” bullshit again, if you don’t have the authority to speak, keep your mouth shut, if you don’t have the balls to put your name on your words, keep your mouth shut…

Once upon a time there was a thing called Operational Security and it was sacred, it seems that this is sacred no more, all you have to do is today is find a so-called journalist from the MSM and tell them, “OK, I’ll give my brain an enema and tell you everything I know IF you’ll call me ‘an anonymous source’ and you can look good to the dummies that vote too”…

You just KNOW that’s how it goes down, and in my mind, an anonymous source is basically unbelievable, and in this case is being used to keep the American people conveniently in line…

Chertoff said he is convinced that terrorists are regrouping. “Our edge is technology and the vigilance of the ordinary citizen,” he said.

Well damn Captain Obvious, do you think they are?? Has it ever occurred to you guys that IF you had closed and secured out borders on the morning of 09-12-01 that maybe they wouldn’t be here and have the ability to regroup??And to make this clear to anyone not aware, you can talk all you want to about the”vigilance of the ordinary citizen”, that is a joke when it comes to combating REAL terrorists, how many forgotten lunch bags have you guys detonated?? That’s what your tactics are getting you, some paranoid people that freak out if they see a bag of grass clipping on the curb…

A REAL terrorist isn’t going to do it like that and you people KNOW it, if you don’t know it, well, then we definitely have the wrong people in charge of Homeland Security…

And just to point out something else that bugs me, I thought by fighting them in Iraq we were supposed to be SAFER here??

Why does the Bush administration feel they have to use FEAR tactics to maintain their hold on the White House and their control of the American people?? Is it because they are incompetent in their jobs and afraid that the American people are going to find out??

Hello?? Earth to Bush… 71% of us already know, your failures aren’t some kind of state secret…

Thank God there’s a term limit:

If I was to go in a coma and wake up in about 10 years I’m certain that I could come to this blog and feel like I haven’t missed a thing, same ole BS shit in Washington , and Bush requesting more patience.

    You’re right, “Earth to Bush…”

Damn straight on the operational security deal.

Fred, thanks for pointing out what seems to be unobvious to our beltway elites; our open borders that allows any Islamofanatic with the bucks for a cayote can come in here and pretty much fade until time to “rebuild”.

So when a school (one of the targets of choice for the religion of peace) is blown up in Mesquite, we will probably be told how those very people who were responsible were here on over-stayed visas and just faded into the woodwork.

Oh, yeah, about the “vigilance” of ordinary people? We saw that during Imamgate when a bunch of praying dimwits were reported by the “vigilant” passengers. Worked out well for them, didn’t it. Now CAIR is talking about suing those same passengers for discrimination.

Yep, Fred, we definately have the wrong person in charge of Homeland Security. Just ask the Border Patrol.
