Immigrant deaths along South Texas border rose 40 percent

McALLEN, Texas – The number of immigrant bodies – Mexican and those still unidentified – dealt with by the Mexican consulate in three South Texas counties rose 40 percent in 2008 over the previous year.

The Mexican Consulate in McAllen, which takes the cases for Hidalgo, Starr and Brooks counties, handled 67 bodies in 2008 found by U.S. authorities, as well as those retrieved from the Rio Grande on the Mexican side, The McAllen Monitor reported in Sunday’s editions. A year earlier there were 39.

Officials believe an intensified Border Patrol presence as well as new segments of a levee-border wall in Hidalgo County are pushing illegal immigrants to riskier routes.

“I am sure that they are risking themselves through more isolated areas around checkpoints,” said Erasmo Martinez, Mexico’s consul in McAllen.

The Border Patrol as added about 300 agents since October 2008 and the levee-border wall segments blocking the more populated areas around McAllen drive immigrants into more rural areas especially west of McAllen, said Dan Doty, Border Patrol spokesman for the sector.

Immigrant deaths along South Texas border rose 40 percent

I have been called a lot of names for my stance on ILLEGALS and their invasion of this nation, particularly the state of Texas. I live in Texas, what happens here is of great concern to me. I care about what happens in other places as well, but Texas is MY most immediate concern.

After all this time we do get news concerning the increase in the number of ILLEGALS that cross our borders, there are many of them dying in the desert, on BOTH sides of the border. I am fairly certain the river itself claims many lives too. The Rio Grande has NO conscience and NO mercy. Neither do I, and whatever it takes to decrease the number of ILLEGALS in this state, and our nation, works for me.

I am pretty sure that I will be thought of as a mean and nasty person for this post, but you know, I only post what I truly believe, and I believe that even with a 40% increase in ILLEGALS deaths along the South Texas border we are still being inundated, almost to the point of being over-run. I still believe that a great many of these ILLEGALS are here for nefarious purposes and not to do the honest work that Americans just won’t do.

I have NO sympathy for the lost lives of the ILLEGAL invaders. I hold NO sympathy for their families either. These people are INVADERS and they are breaking the existing laws of this United States of America. They are still making every attempt to INVADE this nation. I also believe that what we are currently facing is a violent invasion, and in my opinion there is only one way to deal with those that launch a violent invasion against your home and loved ones. KILL THE INVADERS!

I believe that we, as citizens of this great state of Texas, are legally empowered to KILL these invaders under the auspices of the Castle Doctrine! I want to hear someone tell me that they won’t stop an intruder from entering into THEIR home with deadly force.

Yes, I am a hard-assed old patriot! Yes, I am an America 1st and to HELL with all the rest patriot! What I am NOT is a bigot. I don’t care where these people come from nor what color these INVADERS are. They can be green with purple polka dot, they are still INVADERS! I am also NOT one of the PC wussies that plays with words in order to NOT offend the weak-minded liberals that are destroying this nation! I hold my head high when I say this.

Folks, either WE, The People get an America 1st attitude and we turn the current direction of this nation around or we’re not going to have a nation to turn around when the failings of the Bush administration, coupled with the debacle that IS Obama comes, to it’s full fruition!

Yep. Yer a mean ol’ nasty alright! But then, so am I! As much as I dislike the idea of children dying, I hate even more the SOBs that are dragging them across deserts and rivers to INVADE our country. We should have a whole lot more than a pesky levee on our borders…BOTH borders. We should have land mines, gun turrets….whatever the hell it takes to stop the invasion!

As usual, you’re right on the money Fred.

These invaders are coming to this nation and taking jobs away from American Citizens. With high unemployment, Illegals are now doing the jobs that Americans want and need. They’re also costing this nation about 300 Billion Dollars annually in welfare, education, and health care costs. The worse part is the drugs, disease, and crime they bring with them.

Well Fred, up here in the Colorado deep freeze a bunch of rich Republicans are recommending we give in-state tuition to illegal aliens to schools and universities! On top of that they get free health care by Colorado law.

damn Doc… Have they lost what little mind they ever had?? ILLEGAL means arrest, process and deport, not care for the son of a bitch like a puppy that followed you home…

Hey, Doc - tell ‘em to look at what the NIGHTMARE - er, I mean the DREAM act has done here in Arizona. The DREAM act paid for the education of children brought into the US illegally, “through no fault of their own” by their parents, and they have sucked off some major money attending school on the tax payer’s dollars - all the way through college and, in some cases, through post-grad studies.

Now, we have a bunch of highly educated college graduates who cannot legally get a job in the field they’ve trained in! They were interviewed, and one poor SOB (south-of-border) had to - waaahh! - work as a SHOE SALESMAN until he could find a medical outfit willing to hire him as a doctor, even though they would have to “work with” his existing documentation… my question is, how was he able to get work even as a shoe salesman if he doesn’t have the documents to work in this country legally?

    40% increase in deaths huh?
I’m truly sorry to hear that.
I was hoping for a much higher number.

To all you Texans; do you see how many illegal Mexicans are protesting against that great sheriff in Arizona.

Do we really want to become like the Isrealy / Palastinian war going on for centuries?

When do we as Texans say enough is enough?
When do we tell this government that we manage,we want this fence built and completed this year?
When do we insist that we have national guards all along our borders until the fence is built?
    When, when, when??
    WHEN IT’S TOO LATE!!!!

We don’t need a fence. A fence won’t stop them. Our military can do it, we don’t even need the feds. All we need to do is to use TEXAS National Guard to guard TEXAS-not Afghanistan, not Iraq, not any damn place the President pleases except Texas. Especially when Mexico’s situation degenerates into all-out Civil War, we will have to have a military presence at the border. A strong one. We ain’t seen nuthin’, yet as far as invaders. The fence is just a farce to pacify us, make us think the feds are “doing something”. And, there are real environmental and other issues with a fence, that won’t work in the first place.

We also need to STOP the incentives to come over. Stop providing the free health care, free programs, etc. and the freeloaders won’t have an incentive. Workers, yeah, but they aren’t the problem. It the freeloaders, and we’ve got plenty of home-grown freeloaders to not need to use Mexico’s.

Decriminalizing drugs would immediately stop the flow, deflate the drug lords and stop their money. It would be a great start, although I understand the debate there. I don’t know where you stand on the drug issue, but for just a minute can you imagine the reactions of the cartels should we decriminalize drugs? It would immediately break their backs, more than any law enforcement can do.

Finally (well of course not finally but for this comment) we need to seriously provide for real philanthropy at the border. These could be faith based, or othewise private-NOT government sponsored using our tax money, but build hospitals, schools, etc. at the border. Of course, this entails stopping the federal government from using our money for anything not authorized by the Constitution, and its a much bigger issue than this.

Excuse me while I pick my chin up off the floor. WHAT? Build hospitals and schools for a bunch of invaders? HUH? Don’t we already provide health care and education? Why can’t their own freakin’ country provide for them?

And I don’t know about you, but I sure as hell don’t want a bunch of drugged out morons roaming the streets because coke is legal. I’m guessing you’ve never been in contact with too many folks who use drugs, eh? Perhaps I’m reading you wrong, Kylevet?
