Dems warn GOP of backlash for opposing Sotomayor

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Senate debate over Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor turned bitter Wednesday, after Democrats warned the GOP it would pay a steep price for opposing the judge who would be the first Hispanic justice, and a top Republican charged they were playing destructive racial politics.

Majority Leader Harry Reid implored Republicans Wednesday to join Democrats in voting to confirm Sotomayor next week, warning that GOP opposition would bring the same sort of public backlash that followed the party’s spirited opposition to measures that would have given some illegal immigrants a chance to gain legal status.

“I just think that their voting against this good woman is going to treat them about the same way that they got treated as a result of their votes on immigration,” said Reid, D-Nev.

Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, the head of his party’s Senate campaign committee and a Sotomayor opponent, shot back that Reid and other Democrats were trying to exploit the nomination and “giving cover to groups and individuals to nurture racial grievances for political advantage.”

Ya know, I guess I’ll get called names for this one too, but I wish someone in D.C. had the guts to take Harry Reid down and give him an old fashioned ass kicking. I was hopeful that perhaps Cornyn might, until I saw his very PC response.

Sometimes I think about the way it was once done, like when former Secretary of the Treasury Alexander Hamilton and sitting Vice President Aaron Burr went at it with pistols. Man to man. But I suppose those days are long gone and we have become far to civilized. At least for now.

“I don’t think it influences people’s votes, but what it does encourage is a very poisonous - indeed a very toxic - tone of destructive politics,” Cornyn told The Associated Press. “They ought to be ashamed of themselves.”

Ashamed? You have got to be kidding me. They are Democrats. They don’t have a shameful bone in their bodies. They study and hone their tactics at Democratic Underground, The Daily Kos, Huffington Post and the like. My God Cornyn, have you learned nothing in the time you’ve spent in the Senate? Shame and Democrat are words that just don’t go together.

And again, they have NO shame, but the people that should be ashamed are the people in Nevada that voted a worthless little piss-ant like Harry Reid in to begin with, and have continued to send this worthless little asshat back time after time.

The decision on how to vote on her confirmation was made more difficult in recent days for some Republicans and Democrats from conservative-leaning battleground states after the National Rifle Association, which has a loyal and politically active base of members, announced that a vote to confirm Sotomayor would count against senators in the group’s annual candidate ratings. The NRA calls Sotomayor “hostile” to the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.

Of course Sotomayor is “hostile”, she’s as “hostile” as it comes, that’s why she’s the perfect tool for Dem/Libbers and their anti-guns agenda.

Texas Senators Cornyn and Hutchison have both promised to vote against Sotomayor, they had both best hold to that promise. Reid is some kind of power wielding idiot. He can’t hurt ANYONE for doing the job they were sent to the Senate to do, and that is voting the will of the people. In fact, Reid would be well advised to actually try that style of governance on occasion.

Reid needs to be reminded by his constituents that HE works for them, and threats are NOT how you win friends, influence people or get re-elected. Even if the little asshat DOES favor an older version of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, he just doesn’t have that kind of stroke. Political intimidation will NOT work in America!

All Demorats and the bulk of Republicans care only about ONE thing: getting re-elected and “getting along” with their cohorts because, after all, they’re ALL in the “same bus” and if you ruin it for one, you ruin it for the many.

Hispanic groups are threatening Republican politicians who vote against Sotomayor. Gee, I thought this wasn’t suppose to be about ethnicity but about qualifications and adherence to the Constitution.

This appointment is not about qualifications….it’s all about RACE. Otherwise they wouldn’t be talking about appointing the first HISPANIC judge.

Two words: TERM LIMITS! The whole kitnkaboodle ain’t got a whole nut between ‘em all! I’m guessing Lindsay Graham wasn’t planning on running for re-election anyway.

Apparently, Reid forgot there were 80% of the population pushing back AGAINST that immigration crap. The backlash was AGAINST those RINO’s who were about to support it. The RINO’s need to push against this nomination otherwise - Reid is right - they will feel the wrath again of those who oppose racists and anti-2nd Amendment judges on SCOTUS. Idiots.

It’s ALL about race and ethnicity…

I don’t give a damn what some sites or people say, it’s ALL about race and ethnicity with Obama and Company, and GHETTO solidarity.

Now it’s going to be BARRIO solidarity…

Welcome to the new America, the beginnings of another 3rd world shit hole!

Kate has the right idea for term limits and it should be extended to cover the SCOTUS also. I personally think that any person that is appointed by a sitting president, should also have to leave when the president does. No more of this lifetime bullshit.
As for reid…….that limp wristed little basTURD needs a good ass whippin to bring him back to reality and off his high horse.

Vigilante has a good idea with term limits for SCOTUS. Once she, or any other lawyer in a black robe, is appointed, there isn’t a thing anyone can do about it. She can say what she wants in front of the Senate Committee but once she’s confirmed, she can tell them to “pound salt” and there isn’t a thing they can do about it.

Genetically, there are 3 races of people on earth: Caucasian, Negroid, and Oriental. As a Latino, she is neither Negroid or Oriental, she is genetically a Caucasian, the same as me. So, how is me opposing her being a racist? She’s the same race as I am.

Reid and the Democrats are only working for one person. Obama. And Obama, Your Hineyness, knows what he’s doing. They want complete Power of this country.
Sotomayor can’t be racist because she isn’t White. Only white people are racist.

Kate you are right, Term Limits.
