Miami-Dade Officer Killed, 3 Wounded

September 13th, 2007 . by TexasFred
CUTLER BAY, Fla. (AP) - A gunman armed with a high-powered weapon killed a Miami-Dade County police officer and injured three others Thursday and then fled, causing authorities to descend on a residential neighborhood in a large manhunt, officials said.

Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Alvarez confirmed that one of officers died. All four had been brought to hospitals, but authorities refused to release further information on them because they were trying to notify their families.

At first, investigators incorrectly identified the suspected shooter as Kevin Wehner, but he is actually hundreds of miles away in the Jacksonville area and was not involved in the shootings, said police spokeswoman Linda O’Brien.

“It appears that we were being misled … by somebody we were talking to who said they were giving us correct information,” she told reporters.

Police now have identified the suspect as Shawn Sherwin Labeet, 25, O’Brien said.

He was last seen driving a white Honda Accord, she said earlier. There may have been another man involved in the shooting, she said.

You get up, kiss your wife Good Morning, make sure the kids are OK and head off to work.

A few hours later your dead and all you were trying to do was to protect and to serve your community.

My thoughts go out to his family and friends in this most difficult time.

What a shame, is cop killing on the rise? Seems I’ve read, or heard of, way to many of these lately. I know we had one killed not long ago around these parts. One is too dang many..

While at a local Fornicalia coastal region recently, the “issue” in the liberal newspaper was whether a local deputy should be fired because an aging hippie overheard him speak “harshly” and with “too loud a voice” to a drunk who’d swung on him on the street.

And we wonder why we’re having problems hiring competent personnel?

My heart goes out to the dead officer and his family, the officers involved in the incident and to all our National Sheepdogs.
