Across Nation, Mosque Projects Meet Opposition

While a high-profile battle rages over a mosque near ground zero in Manhattan, heated confrontations have also broken out in communities across the country where mosques are proposed for far less hallowed locations.

In Murfreesboro, Tenn., Republican candidates have denounced plans for a large Muslim center proposed near a subdivision, and hundreds of protesters have turned out for a march and a county meeting.

In late June, in Temecula, Calif., members of a local Tea Party group took dogs and picket signs to Friday prayers at a mosque that is seeking to build a new worship center on a vacant lot nearby.

In Sheboygan, Wis., a few Christian ministers led a noisy fight against a Muslim group that sought permission to open a mosque in a former health food store bought by a Muslim doctor.

Across Nation, Mosque Projects Meet Opposition

I’m not a lawyer, I have said that before. I don’t have any special legal training other than my Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice courses, so, this is an opinion piece, and is MY opinion.

I detest Islam and it’s followers. I personally feel that it has NO place in America. It is, again, in MY opinion, NOT a *Religion of Peace*, it is, in MY opinion, an antiquated sect of pedophile goat lovers that commit MURDER in the name of Allah.

If it were up to me, every Muslim in this nation would be banished forever, never to return. ALL Mosques would be demolished and the remains burned to ashes. Every Koran would be thrown into the conflagration as well.

That said;

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

It pains me greatly to have to point this out, but our own Constitution allows Muslims to be in this nation, to practice their ‘religion’ freely, and, if I have interpreted this correctly, I believe it also allows them the freedom to build their Mosques anywhere they are legally allowed to build in accordance with local ordinances and zoning.

That doesn’t mean I LIKE it, it doesn’t mean I agree WITH it, but the law of the land applies to ALL within the land.

At one time, neighbors who did not want mosques in their backyards said their concerns were over traffic, parking and noise — the same reasons they might object to a church or a synagogue. But now the gloves are off.

I can understand that! I can SUPPORT that. Whether it’s a Mosque, Church or Synagogue, if it’s being FORCED upon a neighborhood, if it’s being proposed and not properly zoned, if residents of the neighborhood can present a legitimate argument against it being built, AWESOME, that is a community working together and exercising their rights.

Barring legitimate issues against the building of a particular religious structure, unless we take the time and effort to AMEND to 1st Amendment, this will be a very slippery slope, and the amendment OF the 1st Amendment will be even more slippery. A dangerous proposition indeed.

In all of the recent conflicts, opponents have said their problem is Islam itself. They quote passages from the Koran and argue that even the most Americanized Muslim secretly wants to replace the Constitution with Islamic Shariah law.

These local skirmishes make clear that there is now widespread debate about whether the best way to uphold America’s democratic values is to allow Muslims the same religious freedom enjoyed by other Americans, or to pull away the welcome mat from a faith seen as a singular threat.

For me, Islam itself IS the reason, ALL the reason I need.

It wasn’t a Christian sect that planned, paid for and carried out the attacks on Marine Barracks Beirut, the 1st attack on the WTC, the bombing of the USS Cole or the 2nd attack on the WTC on Sept. 11th. It’s not Christian groups that continue to carry out other terrorist attacks around the world.

I have yet to hear an Islamic group openly and enthusiastically condemn those attacks! I am certain that if the attacks had been carried out by Christian groups, the cries and protests would be long and loud.

Feeding the resistance is a growing cottage industry of authors and bloggers — some of them former Muslims — who are invited to speak at rallies, sell their books and testify in churches. Their message is that Islam is inherently violent and incompatible with America.

I’m not a former Muslim, I have no books to sell, and I’m not the guy that gets invited to opine in Church, but I am firmly convinced that Islam is inherently violent and incompatible with America.

So, that said, WHAT do we do about the First Amendment?

While I do respect the rights of people to practice their RELIGION I will say this, Islam is no more a religion than Nazi skinheads! Muslims are practicing members of a HATE GROUP! Islam should be banished from this country on that basis. Just sayin’

    Well said Fred…
I pretty much agree with all that you’ve said and I would like to add one more point.

I believe that this nation was founded on Judeo-Christian principles and that without recognizing a government sanctioned church we can still follow those principles…and we can still allow the freedom of all religions except that when one sect identifies themselves as a ‘quote’ religion ‘un-quote’ when in fact that so-called religion acts as an enemy of the state (and an enemy of all other religions) then we (and all all other faiths) should declare Islam a non-entity in both the theological sense and the political sense…condemn them for their words and deeds, for they are truly an enemy of God and all God’s believers.

OK, I understand that this post will bring on some passionate responses, but the question remains, WHAT do we do about the 1st Amendment?

Legitimate religion or not, they are here, they are REAL and the Constitution allows it…

    …and one more

Mixing Islam with Christianity is like attempting to stir a bowl full of gasoline with a lit match…it will never happen!

I’m not so sure they want to build the Mosque as a sign of victory over the American people in NYC….but I believe they might try to build it as a staging area for more fighters and arms to gather without being searched. I would not put it past them to try and build a nuclear bomb in the Mosque. One big enough to take out the whole City of New York. They would state that we ( Infidels ) have no right under their Sharia law to enter their holy place.
Yes…they have every right to build the Mosque….just as the United Steelworkers have to rights NOT to build it. If enough of them say NO…then it will not be built.

Ref:”Legitimate religion or not, they are here, they are REAL and the Constitution allows it…”

My point was to declare Islam an enemy of the state and take away their “religion” status.

    re·li·gion?
    –noun
    1. a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, esp. when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.
    2. a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons or sects: the Christian religion; the Buddhist religion.
    3. the body of persons adhering to a particular set of beliefs and practices: a world council of religions.
    4. the life or state of a monk, nun, etc.: to enter religion.
    5. the practice of religious beliefs; ritual observance of faith.
    6. something one believes in and follows devotedly; a point or matter of ethics or conscience: to make a religion of fighting prejudice.
    7. religions, Archaic . religious rites.
    8. Archaic . strict faithfulness; devotion: a religion to one’s vow.

I’m sure I could find a body of persons that would adher to a set of beliefs that robbing banks would make a nifty religion and we would be protected by the 1st Amendment. Far out you say…not hardly when Islam allows decapitation and wife killing among other atrocities.

The problem 1st Amendment wise is that Islam is considered a religion to begin with. You don’t have to do any deep digging to find that muslims as instructed by the Quran want to do harm to all non believers. Only so-called religion that was founded in violence. Say, I belonged to a religion called “The Barn Burners” and one of its tenents was that each congregation had to burn some farmer’s barn each week. How long would that last? What we have unfortunately is too many pussies in govt that are afraid to call a spade a spade. That real fact is that Islam is not a religion but a large violent cult bent on destroying all non Islamic societies. The correct thing do is declare that Islam is not regognized as a religion in this counrty which would end the 1st Amendment argument. The next thing we need to do is declare Islam to be a terrorist organization and a threat to this country’s sovereignty. As for the muslims here now; you can renounce the Quran and stay or find the sandbox of your choice.

Norm — And just HOW do you propose to make Islam illegal and still maintain the integrity, and legitimacy of the 1st Amendment?

    Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;

Look, don’t think I am supporting nor defending Islam, I HATE the bastards… But our Constitution either changes or ALL religions can be tagged as ILLEGAL, illegal this, that or the other, by the anti-religious crowd…

Look at what one old bat, Madeline Murray O’Hare, accomplished…

  12. comment number 12 by: detex713

Whether we like the Islam/Muslim religion is not the issue. Our Constitution provides for freedom OF religion. HOWEVER, WE CAN NEVER PERMIT ANY CLOISTER, GROUP OR SEGMENT OF THE ISLAM COMMUNITY TO BE RULED UNDER SHARIA LAW!! Any politician or judge who permits this barbaric practice to operate within the US should be IMMEDIATELY removed from office/court/bench or whatever office or position they hold. This is slavery of women in the worst form but it is called a law!

The other part of Islam is that the “MODERATE MUSLIMS” have been soft-spoken against the terror and the tyrannical actions against infidels and women. I think most Americans would be more willing to accept Islam as a PEACEFUL religion if the practitioners of Islam would speak-out against the barbaric actions of some Muslims.

Many Muslims keep saying that there must be a direct challenge to the “Infidel”; either convert to Islam or be killed! The same PC politicians keep saying that the Taliban and Al Qaeda are a small group of Muslims. If they are SO SMALL why don’t the majority of peaceful Muslims take back their religion from these terrorists?

When terrorism is tolerated it will continue until the members of the group/religion/faction decide otherwise!

If Muslims will not demand tolerance from their own, How can they demand tolerance from Americans???

    Quoting Fred:
“Legitimate religion or not, they are here, they are REAL and the Constitution allows it…”

That’s the sad part. Those ragheaded bastards are using our laws against us and as of now, or until, like mm26 says, somebody gets a set of balls, and………….

“The correct thing do is declare that Islam is not regognized as a religion in this counrty which would end the 1st Amendment argument. I like it !!!!!!

I guess it boils down to a flaw in the language of the 1st Amendment. Back to my bank robbing example…there are laws against it, but what if I called it “Robin Hood’s Sanctuary the religion of the poor and downtrodden”. Would Congress prohibit such a worthy cause? Heck, Congress already acts like Robin Hood (only they take from the rich and the poor and give to themselves), they couldn’t ban that!

Fred, I know we’re pretty much on the same page…just using your forum as a sounding board today…throwing things out there for your readers to think about.

Oh and that comment made above by extex_cop, “I’m not so sure they want to build the Mosque as a sign of victory over the American people in NYC”
That is precisely one of the reasons they build the mosques…just as they did in Boston and Philadelphia…an ex-Muslim explained this on another blog.

Outlaw Islam in America… I LIKE THAT IDEA TOO!

I have no problem with placing them on a slow boat back to some sand pile on the other side of the world either…

How the hell do we make it happen without gutting the Constitution? THAT is the question.

Wouldn’t be too hard to ban Islam if congress had some balls. Hold hearings using the Quran as reference. That alone would sink the religion part of it. Stack the jury. Vote on it. Then pass a law baning Islam. More open than Obama-Pelosi. No worries.

  21. comment number 21 by: BobF

That’s a good question Fred about what to do about the First Amendment. Unfortunately, I don’t have an answer but I know that restrictions are placed upon all rights granted by the Bill of Rights. Our courts have interpreted the First Amendment concerning religion to fit their beliefs, not the words that are written. The one thing about Islam that differences from any other religion protected by our First Amendment and that is it’s call for death of nonbelievers. I can’t think of any other religion that commands its followers to kill infidels and that killing nonbelievers is your ticket to heaven. We have laws which restrict our Second Amendment Rights to where we can’t own RPG’s, shoulder fired missiles, and full automatic weapons without special licensing. I doubt we could do the same with a religion though because history has taught us that trying to restrict a religion has only cause its growth. It’s going to take a smarter person than me to figure that out.

  22. comment number 22 by: mrchuck

Burn’em at the stake, like in Salem, Mass in the late 1600′s.
Declare Islam is a fanatic cult and outlaw them.
The population in this world has become too big to allow any cult of death to progress.

  23. comment number 23 by: TexasFred

    Mr Chuck — Yep, that’s the ticket… Genocide…

The population in this world has become too big to allow any cult of death to progress.

Not that I disagree with you, but, if we kill them, ALL of them, an act of genocide, are we not then a “cult of death” too??

As I said earlier, this one is a very slippery slope…

Islam declares war on all INFIDELS, that would be us, so, we kill ALL Muslims, and that, in and of itself, would be a daunting task, but since THEY started this war, sure, kill em ALL…

But, we didn’t kill all the Italians, Germans and Japanese after WWII. :?

Let them build it, then NY should do this:

My first suggestion would be for Mayor Bloomberg to zone the area around the mosque for strip clubs and legalized street walking. Assign policemen of Jewish heritage to answer all calls at the Mosque. Schedule the gay pride parade to circle the block several times, if possible right at prayer hour. Allow as many street vendors as would like them licenses to sell pork sandwiches and “medicinal? marijuana in that area. My final suggestion would be to have the city tear up the side walks around the building and repave them with a nice mixture of Portland Cement and bacon fat.

    Problem solved!

I know we all agree the 1st Amendment has to stay as it was written, but doesn’t it appear that the Obama Admin. is trying to re-write now. Afterall…they want to ban Conservative Talk Radio…and ban preachers from speaking out against politics. If it does get changed….and it’s during his admin. you can bet there will be a loop hole written in there to protact his Muslim buddies.
Now as far as Sharia Law goes….isn’t that in itself a violation dealing with Separation of Church and State??? The church makes the rules and the law has to enforce it. If we have to abide by Sharia law…..then all abortions would be banned because the Pope says a woman can not have an abortion. The Church of Latter Day Saints would ban all work on Saturdays ( their Sabbath day )…no pork because the Hebrew forbid it…and it could go on and on with all the restrictions each and every religion has.
Sorry WhoBeen….I was meaning to say they were not trying to build it “just” as a victory site. We know damm well they are building it for that too…just to rub our noses in it each day we have to pass it.

I guess we could amend the 1st Amendment to say ” We only recognize those religions that were here in America during the time The Constitution was written, and only those have the freedom and protection thereof.”…unless special permits allowed by the American public with their votes.

I’m sure even with all that….there will be some that get upset because they do not like the outcome.

  26. comment number 26 by: extex_cop

I like it Katie…but bacon fat does not mix well in water based compounds, but we could use PIG’s BLOOD and dog poop. The fat could be used to lubricate all the hinges or moving parts. Laser etch the sidewalks around the building with nude pictures of women….ha ha

Allow me to state the obvious for a moment, if I might, and that comes down to — in my opinion — one sentence:

    Islam IS as Islam DOES.

No matter what ANYone says. Even those who allegedly “practice” that religion.

Again, in my opinion, Islam is a religion of death, destruction, intolerance, misogyny, brutality, corruption, pederasty, inculcation, mindlessness. It is the most Borg-like of any organization of which I am aware. It lives and justifies only to subsume and control. It and its adherents recognize nothing but strength and power.

If you ALLOW it, it will take over other religions, other ways and forms of life. Other countries, other creeds, other civilizations. All is to be subsumed and converted or killed or eliminated. No resistance is brooked. Had they the power, they would kill all non-believers on the planet.

What once was Islam is now corrupted and possibly has been for quite some time. How is this confirmed? Because even those who practice and believe in a radically different Islam, that of actual peace and a modicum of tolerance, are silent. Deathly silent I might add.

Because they fear speaking out against what their religion has become. And when there is religious fear, those with strength simply win.

And here is the conundrum: America’s strength is its greatest weakness.

Historically and Constitutionally our country’s foundations are rooted in attempting to provide actual freedom.

Islam isn’t interested in freedom one bit. Neither is the Middle East. The Middle Eastern and deadliest form of Islam is predicated upon tribalism, nomadism, barbarism, and males. Women mostly do not factor and are predominantly chattel.

There is a reason this sentence is true in Islam: “Me against my brother, me and my brother against my cousins; me, my brother and my cousins against our nonrelatives; me, my brother, my cousins and friends against our enemies in the village; all of these and the whole village against the next village.”

I don’t believe I can make it any simpler.

While the Constitution says: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

I am not Congress, my community is not Congress, my State is not Congress. Somewhere along the way, education has gotten off track. Just because Congress and the Federal Government can NOT do something, does not mean that WE the People cannot do something.

Our forefathers understood this. And often limited what institutions and churches could be constructed in their communities.

Neither Congress nor the Imperial occupant in the Executive Branch has the legal authority to prevent communities from limited the construction of churches and mosques.

There are many good points and views expressed here so far.
Fred has made a valid point, and for now it stands. Islam is seen
as a religion. As a staunch Counter Jihadist and one has studied
islam, read the qur’an, hadith and sira, I can tell you this is NOT
a religion but an ideology driven for the last 1400 years by violence,
persecution, slavery, subjugation of women, and the worshipping
of death to any and all whi oppose this vile, perverted cult.

There is in islam, what most of know as Jihad. This is not a’
peaceful inner struggle’ as most islamist and islamic apologizers
would want us to believe. JIhad is Jihad. Those who follow and have
been brainwashed by islam are expected to wage jihad against all
who infidels or kaffirs, unbelievers, you and me. What this mosque,
all mosques are doing is waging ‘STEALTH JIHAD.’ Using our own
laws and rules to destroy us from within. Once muslims obtain a
small, very small population, they begin to clamor for rights. They
start to try and force THEIR ways upon the rest of us. That is what
has been going on for many, many years. This is the long range
plan of the Muslim Brotherhood and most vile islamic organizations.
One only has to cast your eyes upon Europe and England to see what
might happen here lest. islam is working hand in hand with the far
left liberal progressives. We are being killed through the news media,
education, financial, and gov’t. islam has infiltrated each one of these
over time. The three toxic stews of the west are diversity,
    multiculturalism and political correctness.

I need to cut this short and encouage everyone to read the
    following books:

    “Stealth Jihad” by Robert Spencer
    and
    “America Alone” by Mark Steyn

My powder is dry and I am locked and loaded.

There is no peace within islam and with islam there can NEVER
    be peace.
